The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

Well, after playing terribly for almost the whole first half, New Orleans decided to play for real and the Wildcat could not save the pathetic, collapsing Dolphins.

The Vikings probably outplayed Pittsburgh Not by much, but they made some questionable decisions and mistakes that the Steelers capitalized on clearly. Before we write off the Vikings however they lost to a very good home team true, are still 6-1 not for long, and still have the inside track to winning the NFC North lol, no. Green Bay will catch up next week and capturing the number two seed more laughter.

The teams that the Vikings have beat have all been pretty shitty, and the Vikings will only get worse from here. They are a pretty terrible team, all in all. I predict they'll get embarassed by Green Bay next week, then lose to Detroit in Week 10. This is because the Vikings always play poorly in games that they should win (also in games against good teams like the Steelers). Then they have a few potentially winnable games against Seattle and Chicago, but they will almost assuredly lose one of their 2 games to Chicago. Arizona and Cincinnati will probably wreck the Vikings considering their awful pass defense, and Carolina and the Giants should beat them as well. That puts the Vikings at 8-8 at best if all the games play out as they most likely will.

Most pessimistic fan ever? Also the Ravens aren't shitty, we probably shoulda beaten you -_-. (sigh we are so close to being 6-0 but we lost each down to the wire game).

Anyway you will beat almost all the teams you mentioned easily, the only ones that really have potential to beat you are Arizona (when they're hot), the Bengals (if they stay hot) and the Giants. You have a pretty piss weak schedule, so even if you lose all the 50/50 games you're still 12-4 and comfortably playoff bound.

Green Bay is among the "pretty shitty" teams that they have already beaten and while they are in hostile territory and will still be missing Winfield, games in this rivalry are almost always close. Then they play another "pretty shitty" team that they have already defeated, Detroit, at the Metrodome where the Lions haven't won since 1997. Seattle is terrible and they love to split with Chicago, so I'll just assume they'll win this one and lose the Monday Night game in Chicago later. Even erring on the side of caution, at worst they will be 8-3 after the three game home stand. Arizona is tough, but the Jackson-led Vikings went there last year and beat the living shit out of them. The Bengals might be tough, but they have never won at the Metrodome (although they had never won at Lambeau before this year, but the Packers are "pretty shitty" after all). Carolina just lost at home to Buffalo and has one of the worst offenses in football. I have a feeling that they will lose in Chicago and complete the destined split. Then they play the Giants, a team that they have defeated three straight times in a game that the Giants, and possibly the Vikings as well, may not care about and so they will play their backups. So, even assuming they lose in Arizona, and one of the games in the homestand, and to the Packers, and another letdown game, they are going to be 11-5 and 10-6 at the absolute worst, with a good chance that they finish 12-4 or better.

I can't believe you guys fell for that obvious troll attempt.

Successful Troll is Successful :/

You actually made yourself look even more foolish, because I was being 100% serious in my post. I stand by what I said. The other users above me just haven't watched the Vikings as long as I have. They don't know what it's like to have 2 Super Bowl caliber teams break down when it counts (hi 1998 and 2000 NFC championsip games) (only DM would know, considering Buffalo lost 4 years in a row in the Super Bowl). Minnesota sports teams are the pinnacle of disappointment. Prepare to be astounded, gentleman, as you watch the collapse of a team that is stacked with talent but never lives up to their potential.

I think this is a bit of a stretch to say. I don't think they will collapse, I think they will learn from their loss and come into Green Bay with a chip on their shoulder. Despite the loss, they still played very well against a stingy defense and explosive offense. Some bad luck on their part cost them the game, with Taylor dropping the pass and the tripping penalty (yes it was a bad call, but it wasn't the ref's fault the Steelers D stripped the ball and returned it for a TD on the next play). Good teams lose close games when bad luck strikes. Great teams overcome adversity and win anyway. The Vikes and the Steelers both lost TDs to bad calls by the refs. The difference in the end was that Pittsburgh still got 3 points out of it, and the Vikings gave up a defensive touchdown. In a game that is officiated by human beings, you HAVE to deal with shit that goes against you, fair or not. Never let your anger at a bad call take your head out of the game, because that's when the other team pulls a big play on you.

Also AP is a monster. Can we have him? :justin2:

I agree that the history of the Vikings franchise contains many painful moments. I grew up reading the 1998, 1999, and 2000 NFL stat books, which detailed just a few of said moments. We should also not forget the four Super Bowl losses, the Hail Mary, the Herschel Walker deal, the 2003 collapse, the 2004 collapse, the Love Boat, and many other grief-inducing incidents. Any real Vikings fan (or any real Minnesota sports fan) is conditioned to suffering by now. But this is their most talented team since 1998, their schedule is quite favorable, and they have a real chance to go to the Super Bowl. I would consider their chances of winning fewer than 10 games close to nil.

ARGH SAINTS >:| WOO COWBOYS !!

I hate Fox. Channel guide said we were getting Steelers/Vikings, got the Browns game. Said we were getting Falcons/Cowboys, got the Bengals game. Man, fuck Ohio.

Thread needs more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wfYAGosi4

and yeah fuck the reflers, and the umpkees too while we're at it even though they're baseball :pirate:

Haha, I'm still laughing about the Dallas game. Can't wait to collect my money from my friend who kept bagging on Tony Romo and kept worshiping Matt Ryan. I still can't believe what an amazing escape he did in the game today. Also, Aikman made some valid points, Romo isn't doing too shabby when you look at the stats. Luckily Giants lost today, this gives us a chance to climb back into 1st place.

Upset the Vikings lost, oh well. It was bound to come. Hopefully they learn from it and re-collect well to continue their good start.

... The only other game I remember from today was the Dolphins vs Saints. I'm still dumbstruck that Miami blew that lead.. It could have put them in a decent position in their division.

Well, I didn't get to see the 49ers game against Texans (in which they lost, boo), it is interesting to note that they started Alex Smith in the 2nd half. Now, granted I'm still thinking he's pretty much bust material, but compiling over 200 yards in the 2nd half whereas Hill apparently was stale throughout the first half is probably going to lead to a switch-up I think in the near future. And did anyone catch how retard, aka Crabtree, did after sitting out of the first several weeks?

Crabtree did all right. However, he had to wait until Smith came out because Hill was blowing. I think Texans were up 21-0 at one point. <_<

Yeah, at the half. Smith came in after the half, and he ended up scoring all 21 of the 49ers' points. 200 passing yards and 3 TDs are decent stats for an entire game, so the fact that he pulled it off in two quarters says something.

Crabtree was okay. Something like 5 catches for 60 yards or so. Nothing spectacular but not bad for a first start and at least he gave Smith another target to spread the ball around to.

Looks like Arizona might edge the Niners out again this year for NFC West though.

Vernon Davis did really well in yesterday's game. Granted, even though the 49ers lost, they definitely have something with this guy, as well as Smith.

well washington has a very good pass defense so it could happen if the eagles once again forget that there's this thing you can do in football where you give the ball to a guy and instead of throwing it to someone else, the guy just keeps the ball and runs with it.

A bit off-topic but, I just saw the Minnesota Twins play their hearts out to get to the playoffs. No one expected them to make it especially with Detroit having such a large lead in the division with like a month to go. Either you're some kind of retarded or you're an obvious troll. I think you should've just stuck with the latter.

L2appreciate your teams

Although I won't deny that the Vikings are capable of all kinds of fail 8D
