Next time I get thrown in jail I'll just say I'm sorry and they'll release me, since apparently that's all you need to do...

Whats wrong with it again? He went to jail for being a deuce, not for doing something wrong. Apologizing in that situation is enough.

He went to jail because he violated his probation and then mocked the judge's authority in her courtroom with his behavior. Let's not sit here and pretend he's some innocent victim in this case. It just bothers me that celebrities think they are special and the rules don't apply to them so they can do whatever they want.

The judge asked how chad liked his attorney and then flipped out after chad figured the ordeal was over. Judge acted like a moron, can't put the blame on chad.

As an attorney (and even moreso, as a grown-ass adult), this is the most fucking ludicrous thing I've ever heard, and you should be ashamed for typing it.

He went to jail because the judge, like anybody with any "authority", is more concerned with how he appears than how life is. You do not throw guys in jail for being flippant. You throw them in jail for fucking crimes.

The punishment might have been technically "about the probation", but the law is not always right, and the law being enforced is not always right. Shitty use of the law is part of what makes the US such a fucking arbitrary joke, anyone more concerned with putting people in their place (particularly because it is a celebrity) than concerned with doling out reasonable punishments is a fucking fraud. We know that certain insecure individuals in the world at large always love putting celebrities in their place (whether actual judges, or even general juries), and I am 100% all in on that being what happened here.

How you treat people after they "insult you" (and in this case it was a sweet fucking trick ass compliment and not an insult at all), how you treat people when things are hard and not easy, that determines what you are worth as a person, and most people are not worth shit.

I agree 100%. The people with even the tiniest bit of power in this country devote every ounce of their energy to using that power for posturing, ego stroking, and getting themselves more power/money.

The judge wanted to make it all about her. And so when Chad upstaged her she had to one up him. This is the same thing that causes so much with sports officials and commisioners. They are jealous that the athletes get all the attention and so they do what they can to make it about them.

Wow, you have such wonderful insight on every single human being with power in this country. It sure is nice to have someone like you around to make sweeping generalizations about everyone.

Other than the clip of Chad slapping his attorney on the ass and the articles on sports sites about the incident, what other evidence do you have to support your theories? Were you in the courtroom? Did the judge call you afterward to tell you that she wanted to make it all about her?

No. You're just making assumptions based on an incomplete story. As was mentioned previously by another poster, the judge had every right to levy that particular punishment to Chad for what he had done. She might have been more lenient if he had been respectful, but since he decided to treat it like a big joke she went toward the heavy end of the allowable punishment spectrum. Judges do not get put into the positions they are in because they are insecure or prone to being riled up. Judges get to be judges because they have displayed an ability to be fair and consistent with the law.

I know we all love to sit here at our computers and pump our e-fists in the air going "fight the power!", but let's try not to be ignorant to the point of lunacy when we aren't acquainted with all the facts.

It is not about "fighting the power", some authority is deserved in the world. It is about a nation with a completely broken practical joke of a legal system that loves putting people in jail for the most meager reasons. The United States is a joke, and examples like this are why.

To be fair Wikey, obviously 100% is not the case. Something about a celebrity athlete gets some judges really riled up though.

Eh, I would be hesitant to call the system "completely broken" and a "practical joke". Obviously there are always going to be cases where authority can be and ultimately is abused, but I doubt it's even remotely close to as rampant as you're implying. Not to mention in this particular case we don't even have all the information about what happened up to that point, only the video clip of the slap and what happened after. I'm not saying it's impossible the judge was riled up and sentenced based on that, but it's not entirely fair for us to automatically dismiss her actions as something like that without more proof than the circumstances. That's just as "broken" of a judgment as she is being accused of.

The United States is the most broken prison system in a first world country, and one of the least effective. It is a joke and cases like this are a textbook example of why that is the tragic reality.

I did not make a broken judgement, I made strong and more likely than not accurate assumptions (because based on the information so far I am utterly correct). Whether I am utterly correct or not, I did not send somebody to jail for pissing me off, so no need to try to put that shit on me.

David Beckham was reportedly offered a tryout as a kicker. I hope they realize that "bending like Beckham" would not work in football.

Everybody not named "Waterbomb" commenting on the Chad Johnson situation is woefully uninformed, ignorant, and just downright stupid. Stop embarrassing yourselves, you have no idea what you're talking about.

This is not entirely correct. He DID do something wrong. You don't go to jail for nothing wrong (contrary to what you might hear).

everyone commenting who doesn't agree with my side is as ignorant as everyone who thinks michael jackson is doing something wrong in south park!!1

but no seriously, none of us are less informed than you just "because you are a lawyer", and this post by you was the same sort of bashing you guys made such a big (and unnecessary show) about forbidding in this thread so lol

anyone who thinks that this case was not about putting a celebrity in his place & a a judge who loves feeling good about being in power is probably fooling themselves, and we are not ignorant for sticking to that by any means ; of course he did something wrong or he would not have been there in the first place, but it was likely right to assume the punishment was excessive based on the facts of the situation, and with the release going how it went, the situation went from us probably being right and you probably being wrong to us being definitely right

by choice I never frame what I say to be compelling, no point wasting time trying to help out people who cannot be even a little incisive after all

You do not act like an asshole in a courtroom. Ever. You don't have to be "informed" to know basic courtroom etiquette. I don't care if you're Chad Johnson or Chad Ndukwe, new American immigrant from Botswana or Chad Huffleberry, rich white yacht owner from Connecticut, IT DOES NOT MATTER, if you slap your lawyer's ass in a courtroom IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE, you are showing an incredible disrespect to the judge, the court, and the justice system as a whole, whether you think it's "broken" or a "joke" or not.

This has nothing to do with being informed of the situation. I was in bankruptcy court earlier with my boss; I guess after the judge granted our motion I should've slapped his ass, because if I were held in contempt it just would've been the judge acting upon some sort of perceived superiority complex, right? Grow up.

Wow, that sounds nothing like an entirely draconian practice. You don't conform to my standards of respect and the culture we have in place, therefore you deserve to be punished harder.

Out of curiosity, would a court hold a man in contempt for openly praying his thanks to god after a victory in his favor?

Also: Aaron Hernandez seems to be in some pretty deep shit.
