The Everything NHL Thread

no way are Bieksa or Ehrhoff signing for under 5 mil, you'd have to be crazy to think otherwise.

Bieksa, I'm iffy on, because I'd like to think he'd take a hometown discount and plus, he wasn't great in the beginning half of the season. However, 5 mil wouldn't be too bad for the Canucks. Bieksa is definitely one of the leaders of the Canucks.

Ehrhoff, definitely.

MAB I can't see Detroit ever signing because he's so one-way, Detroit is a team that would rather put a forward on the point on the PP(even though every time they've done this it has been a disaster) than roster a 7th or 6th defenseman with big issues in their own zone... I'm sure they'd love Belanger at the right price, though, he's got a lot of traits Detroit likes and he's underrated enough by the media that maybe the other GMs will too and he'll go for less than he's worth. I suspect Detroit is going to want to fix as many of their holes with players in their system as possible though; Tatar will probably play in Detroit next year, Smith definitely will, Kindl will be an every day guy... you can't just sign a bunch of free agents and win long term this year. I imagine we'll see more of Helm playing third line minutes this year instead of the occasional third too, they're really going to need to bring up his and Filppula's ice time if Detroit expects them to keep taking less to play here.

Not much to say on either ridiculous view of the Canucks dmen.

Also I would love to seem Helm and even Abdelkader (if he could break out at some point) get more playing time. I always like watching detroit for Datsyuk, Helm, Zetter etc. I honestly don't see Bieksa leaving VC anytime soon. I see him as a key element although I don't follow Vancouver much. I'm a Caps fan, yes very disappointing playoff run being smacked by tampa and listening to all my friends who are Bruins fans rag me.

MAB was a random 6/7 Dman i put on their. I simply don't know what to put on their as a 6/7, i really don't think Smith is ready. The options out there are unfamiliar. With the cap situation, we can up Bieksa's contract so that is more to his liking (upwards to 4.5-7, we can't hit 5 mil because we will be up against the cap then). I could do some adjustments.

I can't watch the game cause I'm working, but apparently there was a late missed icing call? Can anyone fill me in and let me know if this was the case or not?

WHAT IN THE FUCK WAS THAT?

I just ate right then and I feel kind of sick. Not so much due to the result itself but more cause of the way it happened (Vancouver's equalizer followed by the game winning goal being the most "WTF" thing I've ever seen - and yes I ended up watching both OT's). Gl in the finals.

Edit: throwing my support behind this man and his crew for the Finals

17 years ago today, Vancouver beat Toronto in overtime to make the Stanley Cup finals.

May 24th. That is a good day.

Not going to lie, Stallion, that was the flukiest goal ever seen in this playoffs (and probably a few before that too). Sharks were playing strong, and then the Stanchion came into play =/.

Good series with you guys.

Sharks do their very best to choke as much as possible before exiting the playoffs

History won't be made

We lost on an incorrect icing call (I have since seen the replay, it was a bad call), a fucking fluke of a goal and Luongo turning super saiyan. Did we lose cause we were a worse team? Yes. Did we lose cause we caught a couple of unlucky breaks along the way? Yes. Did we lose because we choked? In this game, fuck no. Go bother someone else and worry about your precious Bulls choking on a massive dick against the Heat today, now THAT'S a choke. This wasn't, it just wasn't meant to be for us.

Edit: GG Eradd, the series was a lot closer then the score indicated but you guys were the better team overall. To do this offseason: Trick a team into thinking Danny Heatley is the second coming of Christ and trade him for a top blue liner.

While the correct call shouldn't have been an icing, I just hope everyone recognizes that it was a deflection very unlikely, not to say borderline impossible to be caught by the referees. I have a bit of a problem calling it a blown call for this reason. If it is, the refs at the very least still shouldn't be blamed for it.

Yeah I agree, it was the incorrect call and whilst in a perfect world everything would be called correctly I'm not really that angry that the refs missed it (human error off something relatively subtle is bound to happen). However, the goal in the second overtime still puzzles me even now though - no idea how that even happens :/

Edit: pope = the Lakers of the NHL thread, except that me and him support the same team so I'm never actually on the receiving end of random gifs.

I make Shark choke jokes for months and once they finally do choke, Sharks "fans" get mad at me. Not even sure what to say about that honestly.

Guess I just kind of noticed them more because they were much less frequent in the regular season as opposed to the playoffs, to the point of almost looking like trolling for a reaction as opposed to just light hearted banter (kinda like the LOLMAVS jokes that used to be in the NBA thread till they pulled out the broom last round). Having said that, I probably shouldnt have got annoyed at you like that but the loss was still bitter (both losses actually for the two times i got annoyed) and I didn't feel that the game that just finished especially was exactly a choke (the game where we didn't score after 5 PP in the first period was one). As a Chicago sports fan you probably know the emotions involved in getting so close and then losing it all (Bears @ NFC championship, probably the Bulls this series, Hawks rd 1 - although that was more of an almost-escape rather then losing it all), especially in the case of my Sharks who have been perennial chokers from that position. So consider this long winded post an apology from atleast one Sharks fan.

It still looks like it hits Sedin to me but its kind of a bad camera view, I imagine it'd be a lot easier if Versus had given the shot from directly across the ice.

On a lighter note

If you're reading this, congratulations: You've survived the much-hyped Rapture from last Saturday. Either that or we've all been left behind.

Harold Camping, the 89-year-old evangelist/kook who was a bit off with his prediction of the end of days like a degenerate gambler trying to give you a tip at the horse track, has adjusted his calendar of crazy and now says the Rapture is coming on Oct. 21.

Oct. 21 just happens to coincide with the home opener for the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers; and if there's one thing we know about the Wranglers, it's that they sure know how to come up with original promotions.
Please recall Rod Blagojevich Night, Girl Scout and Santa-themed jersey nights, "Over 18" Night, Dick Cheney Hunting Vest Night, and ... yeah, we could go on and on about the marketing geniuses over there.

So how are they taking advantage of the re-scheduled End of the World? Well, it's going to be Las Vegas Wranglers "Rapture Night," featuring the final hockey game played on Earth.

"This is a low-risk proposition," said Wranglers president and COO Billy Johnson. "If it doesn't go as planned, it's not the end of the world."

The organization is still finalizing exact plans for Rapture Night at Orleans Arena, but T-shirts will be involved because, as Johnson's said, "Nothing says Rapture like a T-shirt night."
