I've been circling Smogon for a while now, looking at RMTs and trying to help people with their teams- then I realized that I could probably use some help with mine. I hope the title is representative of the team lol. I've got 2 normal immunities, 1 fire, 2 fighting, 2 poison, and 3 ground. Heres the line-up:
The Lead:
Gengar @ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Energy Ball
The ONE member of my team that I am unwilling to switch. Gengar with LO is a surprise lead because many people expect a taunt- SR lead, or a spikes lead, or something of that nature. Gengar comes in, and people are probably thinking hypnosis or a scarf. If Gengar meets a lead he cant deal with, he switches out, and can come back later in the game to score some legit KOs. I really only have Energy Ball for Swampert and for Hippowdon and such, but i was thinking of removing that for maybe HP Fire or Substitute. What do you think?
The Sly One:
Rotom-H @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Modest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow ball
- Trick
Ahh Rotom. Rotom-H is blessed with the fact that it gains Overheat, and although it isn't STABed it does do a lot of damage. Rotom can usually switch right in when Gengar dies, and Trick the incoming pokemon. It's common switch-ins have been Tyranitar, Blissey and Swampert, and the latter two hate being tricked. If I do end up keeping the scarf on Rotom, he scores some nice KOs on CM Latias and other variants (barring Choice Scarf). I realized that two ghosts are better than one when it comes to blocking STAB CC's (cough infernape) so I feel that it warrants Rotom's spot on this team.
The Omni-Present
Scizor @ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP/ 252 Att/ 8 Spe
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Bullet Punch
The CBZor is the most overused pokemon in the OU tier, and for good reason. Choice Band on an already monstrous attack stat is nothing to scoff at but everyone already knows that. Anyway, Scizor is an amazing scouter, and I find myself using U-turn more than I actually use BP. Pursuit is an amazing move as well, and I actually find it useful against Blissey's (haha) as they expect a Superpower and get Pursuited. The EV's of course are to be slower than opposing Scizors and hit hard with their defense drop after Superpower.
The Suprise
Heatran @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Will-o-Wisp
Heatran really is amazing. I dont think anything in the game can force switches like he can. I usually bring in Heatran on Metagross, or something that would normally be OHKOed by a Specs/Scarf Fire Blast or Earth Power. Then Gyarados comes in (honestly like 90% of the time). I love this, because when they switch, I sub up, and then theyre like "oh shoot". Once I sub up, gyara either opts for the waterfall or the DD (hoping for a switch) and I respond with WoW, crippling what was once a great sweeper. Heatran also soaks up the fire attacks that would constantly wreck this team. I really love this variant.
The Inevitable
Lucario @ Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 Def/ 252 Att/ 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Ice Punch
- Close Combat
- Extreme Speed
It's inevitable. You will get hit by Lucario, and you will get hit hard. Arguably the best mid/end-game sweeper, all I have to do is bring Luke in on a CB-locked Pursuit (oh Scizor...) and get an SD in. The ghost types are able to lure in Scizor and all of a sudden, they become set-up bait for Luke. I chose Jolly over Adamant because Gengar and Rotom can fire STAB Shadow Balls at Ghost and Psychic types, and here or there sometimes I catch a Mence off-guard without some speed EVs and hit with a 4x super effective Ice Punch. I was thinking of dropping Extreme Speed for Bullet Punch though, cause it's frustrating when Gengar comes in and walls a sweep completely. What do you think?
The Hell-Raiser
Salamence @ Life Orb
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 232 Att/ 24 SpA/ 252 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
None can fathom the might of DD-Mence. I personally think that in todays metagame apart from Scizor, Salamence IS the biggest threat, and thats probably why he's #2 in usage. I loved Salamence to begin with, and I wanted something to hit hard and hit faster than luke when Gengar was done. I decided on DD-Mence, who can also come in on a CB Pursuit, get one set up, and work some magic from there. Blissey usually comes in (i don't know why, is there a rise in Specs variants?) and after a DD, Outrage does 129.95% - 152.84% to the common Calm- Wish/Protect Bliss. Cresselia with a 252 HP/252 Def spread, another annoying wall, takes 61.49% - 72.30% , enough for a sure 2HKO. All-in-all, Mence has the ability to rip teams to shreds, no doubt.
Threat list coming!
