This is really pissing me off?

Just yesterday, me and my friend who is a guy (Not a boyfriend, OK?) got caught by some of my classmates who discovered I and him played competetive Pokemon. How awesome. Not. I am female, so I don't get teased as much as my friend there, but really, hearing things like "You are 15, why are you still playing Pokemon, especially like this? Nerd!!!" f***ing pisses me off. My friend tolerates the teasing, but I am getting really pissed, it's not that they are so "mature" and "hardcore" for playing World of Warcraft, and I wouldn't hesitate to bash them up if I could get away with it, except that I can't >_>

I need to cool off, somebody can tell me how to?

It's a video game and/or hobby. Regardless of random comments.. who cares.

That's like saying you loved a certain Sports team since you were a kid.. but have to stop at a certain age just because.

playing competitive pokemon is how i cool off, i suggest using a nice simple rain dance team to pulverise scrubs with. pretend that these scrubs are those wow-playing douchebags and go to town on their asses

Don't worry, they just don't understand you. I'm 19 years old and I'm playing pokemon :)

The easiest way to cool off is sweet revenge. Try to find something about them and its payback time. Simply telling their parrents they jerk off will suffice (yeah they do, no evidence needed) but you can also do it more gently.

On a different note, just avoiding the guys can also work, but that may result in them talking behind your backs.

easiest would be to suck it up and ignore it as itll soon pass

Well, this kind of situation never really happened to me before. Though I few of my peers know about my playing of competitive Pokemon, they don't really seem to care. There are quite a few casual Pokemon players at my school, so that's understandable. Any, to deal with this situation, just don't get upset or angry over those remarks. They're only going to care about you playing Pokemon if you care you Pokemon.

I was picked on quite a bit in high school for playing video games in general

BUT ITS ALL GOOD

because when I go to my high school reunion, I am going to be surrounded with people who have either a) become losers b) married the wrong person and may be divorced c) have put themselves in a TON of debt d) Insert something negative here e) All of the above.

Don't put too much stock in high school. It really does not matter in the LONG run. I know it may be hard for a 15 year old to hear but trust me, it really doesn't matter.

If you're on a competitive Pokemon forum, you probably shouldn't be caring what people think about you if they find out that you play competitively.

In all seriousness, this has actually happened to me a couple times. I just let it go, and it passed in about a week every time.

Thankfully, playing video games means you will fall into none of these categories. You should arrive by helicopter too, can't let good hyperbole go to waste.

Honestly talking about their maturity levels is useless if you're going to react this way and then whine about it on the forums. People are insecure and like to tease others, so whatever: fuck them, and let them get their kicks, just keep playing pokemon and kick other pokemon with like hi jump kick?? I HEAR IT'S REALLY STRONG. ;_;

Look at it this way, if the people teasing you are close friends of yours, then they either don't really mean it, or shouldn't be your close friends.

If they are just people in your class, sod 'em. Who cares what they think anyway?

Also, Lady Gaga is rubbish live. You should be more concerned about that. Especially if you bought tickets.

1) Obviously it wasn't my close friends teasing me, it was some bunch of morons teasing me and my close friend.

2) Lady Gaga has nothing to do with this topic.

3) If you think she is rubbish, well I don't, you wouldn't like it if I called metal, or whatever genre you like rubbish.

I meber said they were immature -_- But you have a valid point.

People in high school tend to be douche bags, and playing competitive Pokemon isn't exactly something you trumpet. Even in college, the only person that knows about my competitive Pokemon play is my roommate, who is a hardcore gamer himself.

Not really a problem in my class, since probably half of the class have been caught emulating a Pokemon game.

The best way to cool off is to remember, that it won't hurt you if you don't take notice of it.

Those people are just huge morons who most likely think that swearing at everyone while playing X-box online and calling everyone who doesn't play shooter games nerds and losers.

as for cooling you off, i don't really have a suggestion except play some games.

This is ridiculous. If you're careful no-one will find out. Nobody knows that I play competitive pokemon at all. I don't own a DS, my browsing history deletes itself, and my computer is password-protected. There is absolutely no evidence to be found that I play. Obviously I don't care about other people who play pokemon finding out, so i post on a forum.

From the brief pokemon-related discussions I have had with my classmates, it seems like many of them might play pokemon (presumably only casually) if it were socially acceptable. It was even mentioned that someone else was rumoured to play competively, which was met with a reaction of surprise, but I have heard absolutely nothing more of.

It'll probably just go away, provided you don't do anything to remind them.

Just laugh it off and ignore them. "Haha you play pokemon" is only funny for so long and isn't even that much of an insult. Just be yourself, if you just continue to act like a normal person, they will realise you have a life and are not a nerd and will just forget about it.

Everyone gets teased for stupid shit in high school, it's all about having the mental fortitude to just realise that it's not personal and will pass.

Abhorring anything that isn't drugs and that was at one point associated with youth is a natural stage that one goes through. It's related to a few factors i.e. confusion as to what adulthood involves (many people adopt a strange delusion that 'adulthood' specifically means drugs, sex and alcohol), the fact that these things can only be interpreted in one way and most would not form the conclusion that you play these games for reasons independent of the fact you haven't grown up, and a bleeding desire to remain in the majority for convenience purposes. There are only really two solutions - get bullied by everyone and explain to a select few, or remain a closeted player and restrict yourself to online communities.

Ok, so the first part of this comment, dont do. It only spurs more attention. As a competitive battler all through high school in town (gave up on the nationals for a while, but Im back!) Your going to get teased.

Really the best offence is a good defence. What i discovered works the BEST is the hardest thing to do, and play it SUPER cool. When they come up and start teasing "So, your playing pokemon like a baby" just smile calmly and either ignore then or be intelligent "And you dont?" maybe start talking about the complexities of ev training, throw in some math, throw in some RNG algerithums talk and TRUST ME, they will be gone very soon. Just remember that their just those random trolls that join here to tell us how pokemon sucks. Their usless childeren.

BTW, in college people think its awesome you play pokemon still, so dont worry. :D

most people have some kind of "guilty pleasure" they like to indulge in that may potentially be embarrassing. for us it just happens to be competitive pokemon.

what really matters is your attitude toward it. don't be embarrassed, it's not like getting caught jacking it to porn. when someone sees me on ShoddyBattle or on my DS and ask if i'm really playing Pokemon i just say "yeah man Pokemon's some serious shit."

This wasn't about protecting yourself from being picked on, it was about cooling off your anger towards other for picking on your friend, and I'd say revenge is a great option for that.

What you state concerns being picked on yourself for playing mons, which id say it rather different ;)
