I actually have two ideas. Let me know if I'm allowed to submit dual sets of names? Here's one.

Articuno - Valefor (the bird aeon of FFX)

Zapdos - Quezacoatl (The lightning-element Guardian Force of FF8, which is literally a thunderbird)

Moltres - Palidor (a bird Esper from FF6)

EDIT - Since dual name sets were approved...

Articuno - Eisvogel (German for Ice Bird)

Zapdos - Blitzvogel (German for Lightning Bird)

Moltres - Feuervogel (German for Fire Bird)

Articuno: Deino
Zapdos: Zweilous
Moltres: Hydreigon

Those dragons are also named after 1, 2, 3, this time in German.

Sure, go for it.

Articuno

Kelvin - a measure of temperature that is generally attributed to colder temperatures.
0 degrees Kelvin is absolute zero - the coldest temperature possible.

Zapdos

Ohm - A measure of electrical resistance. (appropriate because of how great Zapdos was at tanking in Gen4...not sure about Gen5, though)

Siemens - a measure of electrical conductivity, which seems more appropriate for a more offensive Zappy...but it looks...a little similar to another, less-appropriate word...

Moltres

Delisle - A measurement of heat.
0 degrees is the point at which water boils, and the numbers increase as it gets colder. Water freezes at 150 degrees using this scale.
Negative numbers denote higher temperatures,

Farenheit - self-explanatory, but Delisle sounds a lot cooler, in my opinion.

Moltres-Eisenhower
Zapdos-Rommel
Articuno-Montgomery

These are the names of the Field Marshals of the USA, Germany, and Britain, respectively, in WWII (sorry to half plagiarize your idea, assassinfred ^^).

Articuno i would name The Dude, because he is so chill
Moltres i would name Walter, because he's always angry.
And Zapdos would be donny, because in gen 5, hes no longer OU and has finally shut the fuck up.

those are the three main characters from the big lebowski, my favorite movie.

Articuno: VanilaIce, Its a Rapper show name
Zapdos: BigBird, Yellow and is big, also a bird! lol
Moltres: FlareFowl, Flare is similar to fire and Fowl is a name for a bird

I hope these win!

i'd go for
moltres -> Fenix it's phoenix written in dutch
Articuno -> Wodan the God of the winter in the time of the galliers
Zapdos -> Donar named after our day in the week called 'Donderdag' = thursday
Donar is the God of the thunder in the time of de Galliers

articuno-IceIceBaby(it fits)
zapdos-CracklePop(the sound of lightning, and yes it fits)
Moltres-Mowhot(mowhawk and hot together for its firie mowhawk)
Cool giveaway! :)

Articuno - "~haku" from the character in Naruto who's blood line limit is Ice!

Zapdos - "Chidori!" meaning Chirping Birds, called so because when Hatake Kakashi (another character in Naruto anime) uses his lighting chakra to attack, the chakra is so rich in electricity that it sounds as if a thousand birds are chirping. Perfect for an electric pokemon like Zapdos who is also a bird ;)

Moltres - "Lawrence III" from Pokemon: The Movie 2000. He was the collector who tried catching Lugia after catching the 3 birds. And moltres was the first one he caught while attempting this. So it fits to nickname moltres after The Collector.

Articuno: Roc - Is a ancient Bird that was White and said to be so large, that it could pick Elephants up and fly away with them.
Moltres: Ziz - Is a mythical Bird that was said to be so big, that its feet would touch the ground, its beek would touch the Sky, and it was so big that it could block out the Sun.
Zapdos: Denki - Electric in Japanese

I can tell you additional info/give you a site, if you want to know more :)

Articuno: Glacialis - Latin word for Full of Ice
Moltres: Icarus - The Greek Myth in which the man who flew too close to the sun caught on fire
Zapdos: Attonbitus - The Latin word for frantic, inspired, thunder-struck, stunned.

Articuno: Boreas/Aquilo(n)
History:
was the Greek god of the cold north wind and the bringer of winter. His name meant "North Wind" or "Devouring One". Boreas is depicted as being very strong, with a violent temper to match. He was frequently shown as a winged old man with shaggy hair and beard, holding a conch shell and wearing a billowing cloak.

Why?:
this was the most dificult to chose the idea is right there didnt want to use an ice god instead a "wind" deidity with the cold element even doe the description sound wierd ¬¬
Zapdos: Susanno
History:
In Japanese mythology, Susanoo,is the Shinto god of the sea and storms. He is also considered to be ruler of Yomi. the powerful storm of Summer, is the brother of Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, and of Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon. All three were spawned from Izanagi, when he washed his face clean of the pollutants of Yomi, the underworld. Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed out his left eye, Tsukuyomi was born from the washing of the right eye, and Susanoo from the washing of the nose.

Why?:
japanese, part of a legendary trio, with the atribute of lightning, and since zapdos lives in thunderclouds... just think about it XD
Moltres: Akitu
History
was a spring festival in ancient Mesopotamia. The name is from the Sumerian for "barley", originally marking two festivals celebrating the beginning of each of the two half-years of the Sumerian calendar, marking the sowing of barley in autumn and the cutting of barley in spring, in the month of Nisannu (Aries).

Why?
well... moltres apart that this fire bird is legendary according to the poke dex:It is said that its appearance indicates the coming of spring.
this was the main reason because saying a God of fire name sound too clichè
All info from the God of Enciclopedia (guess who....) also the articuno ...tecnically are 3 nicks but the first is his Greek name and Aquilo or Aquilon is just his roman Equivalent the "n" is just aesthetic up to iread u can post up to 2 nicks
so plz let me know wich you are giong to take for consideration just 1 or maybe the 3

Salu2 & GL

moltres: ifrit (final fantasy fire aeon)
zapdos: ixion (FF thunder aeon)
articuno: shiva (FF ice aeon)

another cool name for zapdos is 'Kirin' originating from the anime show naruto (alot of this is tv show is based off of japanese mythology) The epic battle between the last survivor of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke Uchiha, and his older brother Itachi Uchiha (itachi killed the entire clan, he's a triple agent) Sasuke uses his Dragon Flame jitsu at the sky to manipulate the weather, creating a storm. Sasuke manipulates nature (with his chakra element, thunder) to call fourth a thunderbolt, named Kirin, striking Itachi.

Seriously, the Big 3 and anyone gave this idea?

The Miami Heat Big 3.

Articuno - Chris Bosh - The underrated part of the trio, Bosh can be as cold as Articuno to knockdown some clutch shots, but is also being called soft sometimes (Articuno's SR Weakness). The less hyped player in the big 3, just like Articuno.

Zapdos - LeBron - The best player in the trio (just like Zapdos), uses his speed and power to go through the defense like a lightningbolt. LeBron's reputation of being a weak link sometimes, often in the clutch, can be compared to Zapdos's weakness to SR, as its really bad sometimes when you need it in the late game.

Moltres - D Wade - Also a very good player, Wade really represents the Heat of Miami, going through hot streaks that are so impressive that even Moltres cold get burned if it touches him. Moltres SR Weakness cold be compared to Wade's "ability" to often get injured. Just like Wade never played the 82 games of the regular season, Moltres will seldon be alive at the end of the match.

Hope you liked it, and yeah I'm big time basketball fan XD

Moltres-Sun

Articuno-Moon

Zapdos-Stars

The best trio of all time. The sun the moon and the stars. Moltres is the sun for obvious reasons (flames). Articuno is icy like the moon. And Zapdos is dazzling and shocking like the stars.

Articuno: Mobius (based on the yugioh card Mobius, the Frost Monarch, lord of ice and water)

Zapds: Zaborg (based on the yuigoh card Zaborg, the Thunder Monarch, lord of thunder and lightning)

Moltres: Thestalos (based on the yugioh card Thestalos, the Firestorm Monarch, lord of Fire and heat)

Im a fan of the card game, if you cant tell, lol.
