The basis of my argument is that not everyone who has Platinum has an AR. One must pay extra money to obtain an AR, while RNG abuse, cloning, etc. can all be done on-cart, without buying anything extra. As such, all of the aforementioned things are acceptable in my opinion, and AR is not. Whether your argument or my argument is superior is irrelevant (and rather arbitrary in itself), I am just attempting to clear up what appeared to be a misunderstanding.

What about those who can't afford a computer to be able to use the rng properly?

My point is, You don't ban golf drivers because not everyone can an afford one. The real competitors will get what they need to win. As long as its within the confines of the games rules, I think its acceptable.
I understand the boldness of my statement. However, the rng is almost no different than an AR in my eyes.

Well, it seems that Top 8 will get prizes (i.e. a DSi) in each division, at least this is what the official rules site states. It does make no sense at all, however, that they have single elimination at day two with only four participants...

I got interviewed by my local paper on friday, it focused more on my dallas win than anything to do with nats but it was still pretty cool, i think my family may be going up to san diego a week early to hang out so that should be fun

@drug_duck - where are you getting those facts from, the site hasn't updated yet as far as i know and i was just wondering if you got them from somewhere reliable since it doesn't seem to make much sense since they are giving away prizes to top 8

@mike - thanks for not dq'ing me, it seems like most people here are pissed i wasn't dq'd but i appreciate it as does my family, im doing it all myself for worlds so it should be all good

Last year, they where custom DS's.
It was orange (florida = Orange state) with the worlds '08 symbol/VGC symbol in the bottom left corner of the top half of the DS.

I almost choked when I saw this... that doesn't look orange, it kinda looks piiiink~ >_< Must be the flash/exposure... >_>

Anyway, while I sit here hoping a cute light pink dsi drops from the heavens so I can avoid paying $200+ for a colorware pink custom dsi, I'm thinking that the SD dsi color is gunna be some shade of blue since SD is known for the beaches... any other ideas??

If you completed the travel award registration you can download some documents. Amongst them is the "Competitor Information Packet". This is my source. It also says something about the schedule and such but that doesn't matter now. They haven't published it on the main site yet, you are right. Don't know if you've read the Competitor Information Packet, though ;D

Some interesting quotations regarding mode:

VGC: The event will consist of five rounds of Swiss play and one round of single elimination play, with the last round completing at approximately 2:30pm.

A complete alphabetical player roster will be posted for each age division outside the main event hall on Thursday evening after check in has completed. Each player will notice a table number listed to the left of their name. This is your position for the Player Meeting. When you are seated for the Player Meeting, make sure you have your complete, legible and Team Information Sheet with you. Staff will collect Team Information Sheets during the Player Meeting. Deck contents and deck lists are a player’s responsibility, and all Team Info Sheets will receive a cursory check for legality and any issues found will result in issuance of appropriate penalties.

The Video Game tournament will be run as best of 3 game matches with 5 rounds of Swiss play (using Pokémon Platinum) on Friday.

VGC
After the final round of Swiss Play, the final Swiss standings will be posted. Players will have 10 minutes to verify that their results are correct before the standings are considered final. After the results have been verified, the top 4 VGC players from each division will be paired and play a single‐elimination match. This match will consist of the best 2 of 3 games. A loss in this round results in elimination from the World Championships.

To be honest, @ Alakapimp, I don't understand either why they're not having quarter finals... on the other hand, 5th to 8th place can be easily determined by the results of the Swiss round.

What is clear now is that you need a near-perfect record to make it to semis. At least Swiss and best-of-three ensures that the one who wins this shit absolutely deserves it.

I know it's shockingly late, but congrats to IPL and Omega for making the finals and congrats to Omega on the win. I was in the orange "sector" with IPL, and I was just a lucky, local competitor. I didn't do too well, but I met some awesome people while I was there. :)

Good luck to everyone at Worlds! :D

Lmfao @ Pic!

The Swiss rounds will make this both more interesting and more fun, and will make the 2 "spare" Pokemon in your party more valuable then ever before. And the option to switch items will be invaluable as well.

Rofl @ pic

StL is known for its insanity.

That's nothin', though. When you guys were here, did you go to City Museum? It would've made the craziness of that pic seem quite low.

So, if there are two divisions with 4 players advancing from each and a KO round afterwards, how should that not be considered a "quarter final"? I don't believe they would let the different age classes battle each other - or did they last year?

No, way! :D Someone actually stopped arguing about hacks and history and posted about their plans at Worlds! Yay!

If you run into me and you still need a floor that shouldn't be a problem. It will just be me and my lil bro (if 23 is little XD)

What's everybody else planning on doing? Aside of winning XD

Meh, with some luck I might go and just see how it goes for everyone from here. Then again I might not.

@druggy - ah no see im still contemplating how early to go up so i haven't filled it out yet, thanks for the info though

Woohoo, I just finished reading the winner info sheet and my oh my, haven't they done a good job.

Now there won't be no more bullshiting like "Oh shit I miss clicked" or crap like that. Also, the best out of 3 rule helps significantly reduce the luck factor in the game and makes it more skill dependant. I have to say, hats off to you nintendo.

For some reason when I was reading the info pack, it felt as though with all the opening/closing ceremony, registration, etc, the tournament is kind of like it was in the indigo plateou in the anime, maybe I am just too psyched. But anyway, I am very looking forward to this.

Oh and yes, I look forward to seeing what a walmart is like, yay lol.

Yeah, especially because I've never been outside of Germany =(

(Netherlands and Austria a few times but I guess that doesn't really count X))

Yeah, the first time I went to a Wal-Mart I laughed out loud. Especially at the stuff like "Artificially Flavored Mini Cereal Vanilla-Flavoured Wafers" or something with a leprechaun on the box. I think the brand name was along the lines of 'Kibbler', but this was the same Wal-Mart trip as when I bought my G/S during a holiday to the US, so it must've been at least 8 years ago now. The cereals particularly had such cheesy names and packaging it really cracked me up. =P
And even more when there were so many outrageously unhealthy snacks for sale. And that's just the food section...
