Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas!

I got a couple of DS games - Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue RT and GTA Chinatown Wars.

And I got the job of cooking the christmas dinner. Damn that ended up a bit crazy towards the end, everything coming ready all at once. Tasted really great though. We had duck :-) there's just the two of us and turkeys cost a bomb and are way too big, even crowns.
And then a nice glass of port afterwards...and then another ;-) while watching Doctor Who. It was an alright episode. Then I watched that James May's toy stories program, and early on, there was this guy in the shot and I was like "He's the Master!". (from the Doctor Who epsidoe, that had been on just before)

Well, this ChristmaX was a little low-key for us this year. My brothers got me Inglourious Basterds on DVD, which I haven't seen yet, so that's pretty cool. My Dad got me Aramis Life (he got all of the family a scent; My brothers got Davidoff Amazonia [which is a really good one, if guys are looking for a new Eau du Toilette], my brother and mum got a Givenchy each, and my Dad got a David Beckham). My grandparents also got me the 6th Hitchhiker's Guide book, the one written by Eoin Colfer, and the first two seasons of Yes Minister.

On Tuesday I saw 3D Avatar with some friends, Wednesday I baked mince pies and a macadamia brittle and went to a picnic in Sydney with other friends, worked on 24th, and then went to my grandmother's for the family do on Christmas Day.

I didn't ask for anything at all, so I suppose you could say my expectations were exceeded.

As for the actual gifts, I got a nice pair of jeans and a dark green shirt, a $50 Visa gift card (not as good as it sounds, those things are a pain in the ass to use...), a bunch of candy, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and Eternal Sonata.

I got my BlackBerry contract which I knew about last month, F1 '09 Wii, clothes, and liquorice to feed my addiction. I got a couple of books I asked for too, which should keep me busy for a while.

It was a cool christmas this year, not only because I got to spend time with family I barely see from the other side of England, but also because I finally managed to get something worthwhile and good to give to my parents, which is a great feeling.

Our drive is also a solid sheet of ice which means it's quite fun, lol.

Let's see.

I got a DSi, great because my DS Lite broke two weeks eariler. It came with two shitty games that I plan on trading in for two better games. A whole buncha clothes as well, including a very cool NES shirt ^_^. A bed-side clock that you can push to tell you the temperature and date and changes colour, didn't really need it, but w/e. A box filled with puzzles and riddles made by MENSA, fucking hell, my relatives think I'm a nerd :/. Guinness Book of World Records 2010, very nice. And about $70

Christmas party was pretty good, went to my`uncle's parents riverside house and went boating :D

Limited Edition MW2 Xbox 360 with 2 controllers and the game.

Fuck yeah, what else can a guy ask for :')

Sigh... I wish I could take the same pleasure in videogames like I used to. I still have fun, but it's not like it once was. I for one could ask for a whole lot more, but I won't go there now :P

I just found out about this that happened to my friend. His mom's fat and always talks about how she should join weight watchers or something like that. Well, my friend decides to take the initiative and buy a Weight Watchers membership for her for Christmas. It did not go over well.

I posted this from my brand new DSi that I got for Christmas yay! The web browser is surprisingly good though, far better than the Wii browser

I cringed.

Anyone do anything really special for Christmas?

this
I also got some speakers, and that was about it.

Edit:

Same for me too... I used to play a lot more, but now only a couple games can actually keep my attention for more than a few days.

Well, my mom was really weird this christmas. She gave me and all my sibling the EXACT same things xD O__o And that was like different kind of camping or traveling stuff like a thermos, some weird blanket that is good at keeping the temperature and some other stuff.

From my aunt I got a scarf, socks and earings. My grandma seams to have decided that I shall be a housewife* or something when I grow up, so I got a apron.. AGAIN! @__@

*Grandma: Come girls and help me in the kitchen.
me: Why can't my brother help you for a change?
Grandma: Can't you see his slacking of in the sofa?

From my sister I got earrings and deodorant and from my brother a beer glass^^ Other than that I got money of course :D

Merry Christmas to all! (And Kwanzaa, whenever the hell that is, Hannukkah ended last Friday).

Happy Hollidays, everyone!

Most of my relatives who loved me enough to give me things(doesn't THAT sound terrible) were smart enough to do the gift card thing, though my parents tried to be exciting which is interesting. My mother tried to buy me some clothes, in particular, and while I'm biologically inclined to love clothes my mother's fashion sense is... well, people like my mother are why people like I am valued, because I need to pick out clothes to make her look good, not the other way around.

I did get one thing that was sentimentally valuable to me that I was too cheap to buy myself though in one of those digital picture frames that flash from picture to picture. I don't have any photos up in my room, currently, so it'll be nice to have something that doesn't have wires coming out of it(well, actually it will, but you all must get the idea) in my room. If nothing else it makes me look a little less materialistic to guests, right?? >_>

I also got a handful of signed hockey pucks to expand my collection a bit which was neat. Brodeur, Ovechkin, Lidstrom, Holmstrom. $$

Though on the thought of gift cards, it brings me back to my high school graduation. We'd been walking toward the auditorium thing we were doing the event at and I heard part of a story a girl I went to elementary school with was telling "... I mean, gift cards. You're giving me money, but you're (shriek) restricting me!?!?" I thought it was pretty funny at the time, but now that I'm normally the one giving gifts rather than receiving I try and stay away from the gift cards unless I'm 100% it's somewhere they'd be spending money anyway(or if it's someone who might be spending money on their bills when I'd prefer to force them to buy something for fun).

I didn't ask for anything specific, but I came away with some good stuff. FIFA10 was the best item I got, along with a few hoodies and other miscellaneous presents.

The real gift I got this year was watching my little brother's face light up when he opened up my old iPod, already set up with all his favorite songs. The true meaning of Christmas is giving, right?

After presents my family went to church and then spent the next two hours cleaning the house and preparing dinner. Delicious. The remainder of the evening was spent visiting with relatives who I only see once a year (might be too often at that) and playing SSBB with my brother and cousin. Now I'm just waiting for everyone to leave (and watching the Lakers get whooped).

Merry Christmas and happy New Year everybody!

I got one of those for my Dad.

Hat, Gloves, and a really cute book- I can't read it very well, as its in Korean, but it is so beautifully illustrated that I'm going to be sat with it and a dictionary for a fair few hours....

For Christmas itself we had a photo scavenger hunt on Christmas Eve, which involved teams of foreigners running around our city trying to get humourous pictures (for example "a passed out korean" or "a human pyramid")- brilliant fun. On Christmas day we had a big meal and party at a bar- ate and drank far too much over the last couple of days, but oh well. Who needs family when you have friends?

Merry Christmas everyone.

I got enough clothes to last a year :P, Season 1 of Hogan's Heroes (Screw modern day tv, classics OWN). Star Wars: Battlefront Elite Squadron for DS (i deceived myself... i didn't see the ratings before wanting the game :( ). I got Pokemon Battle Revolution, PJs-mittens-hat (christmas tradition) two toys that when you throw them on a hard service, they go flat and then converge back to their pre-splat form (gag gifts). Answers in Genesis Book 1 and 2. i can't really remember the rest.

One thing i wanted that i didn't get was enough family time with the cousins. They left us christmas DAY early in the morning when we couldn't say good by that day so they could see their other family. We don't get to see them much, and they went to the same family for thanksgiving.

oh god, I can't even remember when christmas eve ended and christmas began.

Christmas eve day was spent visiting with the relatives on my mom's side of the family. We met up and I kind of just sat there. They all have small (annoying as fuck) children and no sense of humor, so it's pretty hard to have a good time around them.

Then my sister, mother, and I went over to another relative's house, polar opposite of my mom's family. Cheery fun folks with older kids so we could have a bit more fun. Watched some movies, ate, watched some traditional Christmas SNL (shweaty balls).
She had this game where we would pass a die around and anyone who rolled a six could attempt to unwrap a large box set in the middle of us, they had until the next six was rolled to make their attempt, then it was passed to whoever rolled the next six. There were two catches though: You had to wear awkward oven mitts, and the roughly 30inx30inx30in box held a gift card... that was inside countless other heavily wrapped boxes. Started out slow, until I saw my aunt bite the tape and thought "Oh, I can bite it?" From then on out each time I won a roll I was biting huge chunks of cardboard out of the sides of boxes. Freaking awesome game.

Got home about midnight, Mom said something along the lines of "well, it's technically Christmas. Wanna open your gifts?". My sister jumped on that one really quickly. Every family member received a generic snugee thing. My sister gave me a coin sorter. My mom gave me a card stating that she had put $200 into my bank account and a blanket. Everyone got some clothes.

Then we just sat and watched some SNL and Kevin Smith until god knows when. I sat there, thoroughly insulated by the combination snugee knockoff and blanket. Fell asleep around 5, woke up at noon and had some coffee and sat with my mom (my sister went to her boyfriend's) to watch even more crap she had saved to her dvr. Had some Christmas steak and came here to surf the tubes.

A cool thing with gift cards is often they're valid in multiple shops in the same group. A notable example from the UK is that gift cards for Waterstones - a bookshop - can also be spent in HMV - a music, dvds, and games shop :-)

I did feel this year, though, that christmas lacked anything special. I mean sure, we had a really nice meal, we have the tree up and everything. But then I spent my time playing (my new) games and on the internet. My mum spent her day reading (her new) books and watching TV. In other words, exactly what we do every other day.

I guess it's not having any family or friends round. (Of course, we wouldn't be able to seat them for dinner, but that's by the by.) I'd love to be able to have a big family get together, but my mum doesn't get on with some of the other members of the family, even though I do.

Merry Christmas!

I got Pokemon Cards, Transformer PJs (I'm 6'4" and they make them my size), an Ivoryline T-shirt, and some money.

I didnt get much this year because my present for christmas, birthday, etc. is doing drum corps this summer with the Academy!!!

Now that I got home from my grandparents, who gave all the presents to my parents a couple of weeks ago, I've actually opened presents besides seasons passes.
Mostly clothing, along with siddhartha, 1984, stranger in a strange land, gulliver's travels (with "a modest proposal"), Oryx and crake, and great expectations. and a bitchin fedora.
Christmas trees?

Have you read Oryx and Crake before? Weirdest, and possibly the sketchiest, damned book I've read since Lolita. But it was still pretty damned good.

I got a new digital camera to replace the one that was stolen in April. Pretty excited. Girlfriend got Stephen King's new book, so that's awesome.

cloths and chocolate, and that was it. the older you become the smaller your presents. ;[

pleasent meal with the family. ended up spending the night out.

im tempted to buy a treadmill to help work off the inevitable weight gain from all the treats. its too cold to exercise outside, not to mention the fact that our village is covered in snow.

anywho, looking forward to the holidays -- no work until the 6th of jan.
