Fuck!

My back has never hurt so much in my life. I'm going to have to ice it and stretch it real nice, but that's not stopping me lol Did squats and sit-ups today to catch up on missed workout yesterday. >_> Oh well, I can squat two days in a row anyway because I'm much stronger there then my abs.

As for food, here is today's journal:

Breakfast: None >_< I woke up late and missed it :( Probably why I couldn't max as many squats as usual. Had a glass of water though.
Lunch: PB Sandwich on wheat, Carrots, 100 calorie thing, fruit snacks, bag of cheetos, 16 oz of water
Snack: Ramen, 16 oz of water
Dinner: Ramen and a Ham N Cheese Hot Pocket plus 24 oz of water

That's it for me, and the thread is revived!

also going to be able to start running again next week hopefully. it would be good if I could because i need to

I just finished my second p90x workout with my roommate. It's fuckin' intense. We were doing the plyometrics workout and by about half way through I had more sweat on my shirt than I do after an entire hockey practice. I'm glad my roommate was there or I probably wouldn't have finished the entire thing. I don't plan on being able to walk tomorrow, lol.

well i have it with juice creatine and caffeine so i need the massive amount of water.

before i started using them I would often not drink enough water and get headaches every time i did squats or anything jumping related. i actually almost fainted once from doing squats and ended up going home and drinking 3 bottles of water in around a minute

I've run myself to the point of fainting three times in my life, and not a single one of those times did I have a headache. during track practice, my head often throbs, and I can especially feel it in my forehead. my coach always dismissed it, saying "that's what happens when you get in shape." maybe I was dehydrated, maybe I was not. But when I was dehydrated to a serious point, I did not have a headache in any way shape or form. In fact, if I recall correctly (which I may not!), I really didn't feel any pain at all aside from the regular pains of running fast for a long time. I just kinda dropped. Two of the three times, I woke up before hitting the ground, and I don't remember any unusual pains.

Yikes that sounds pretty bad. I actually almost fainted once playing in the groove (its like DDR on steriods). I just finished a song and I bent over to pick up my glass of water and just fell over. I couldnt stand up for 15 minutes. It was pretty scary.

But I havent gotten a head ache during a work out in a LONG time now. Its usally stomash aches if anything, and thats a combination of being slightly hungover or just in general not getting enough vitamins and minerals (living by yourself with 5 friends does that to your diet)

Well, as they say: "The only good pace is suicide pace and today looks like a good day to die."

lol anyway the main reason I posted was I was wondering if anyone can link me to good back stretches. I've been stretching it and doing back extensions but I had to leave in the late second half instead of keep playing today due to my back killing me, especially after I collided with this kid. In need of help !

hello again men.

I seem to have a slight problem, though it may just qualify as a nuisance in the end.

Is it normal for one's head to hurt after exercising? I am still only a month into exercising regularly, but it seems whenever I do something that stresses my muscles my head starts to ache and throb. Should I be seeking medical attention or is this normal?

Are you getting plenty of water? If not try to add more water first. Flavoring it will make it easier to take and not make it any worse if you have trouble drinking it.

If you are getting plenty of water then you may not be eating enough. If you are not getting enough food it's like trying to run a car with little gas. Other than that, it may very well be a medical problem. But I'm no expert.

Water makes sense. I'm certainly getting enough food. 2000 calories a day. I know it's a few hundred short but that's fine since it'll just burn into my fat reserves. Which is what I want.

Thanks again. Any more advice comrades?

2000 calories a day if you are excercising is WAY too little. 2000 calories a day for a guy in general is less than you should have and if you excersice the demand for energy goes up.

How often are you excercising and how intense are the workouts

I've gone through it, I think everyone has. it should go away with time, but you ought to make sure to drink enough water anyways. oh and 2000 calories is below maintenance even if you weight as little as 120 pounds. you really need to eat more

I'm trying to lose weight, I weigh 220 lbs. How much would you suggest I eat. Every resource on the internet says I'm eating the right amount to lose weight at a rate of 2-3 lbs a week. And they also say it's quite safe.

My roommate also complains of headaches. According to him, you should make sure you breathe frequently and correctly (at the proper time) while lifting, otherwise the problem may be aggravated.

It's quite a common thing - it's known as an 'exertion headache' or 'exercise-induced headache.' Type those into Google and have a look through the results. There's differing opinions but I reckon keeping hydrated and keeping your blood sugar high are the best ways to go (since you're trying to lose weight is it possible you've been swearing off sugar?).

Ha, I wanted to avoid google too. And I have been laying off on high sugar foods but have been eating things like peanut butter and pie every so often.

Well fine, google it is.

No running ): I need spring to hurry up and get here!

Anyway I really do need help with my diet. Here is why my general day is like:

Breakfast:
Bowl of Cereal or Waffle
Glass of Orange Juice
Small cup of water (4 oz maybe?)

Lunch:
Peanut Butter Sandwich
Banana
Fruit Snack Package
Bag of Frito-Lay Chips (Any kind)
Hostess Desert
16 oz of Water

Snack
Ramen with vegetables (happens at least twice a week, usually 3)

Dinner
Whatever my mom makes, usually something like:

Meat or Pasta
Rolls (or some type of bread)
2 bowls of two kinds of vegetables
A Glass of Milk
A Glass of Water

And usually throughout the day I have water. During school it's whatever I get from the fountain, after school (during snack), it's usually in the same 16 oz bottle from Lunch, and at home it's in 24 oz increments from my Nike water bottle.

So yes, Smogon, help me lrn2diet. (By diet I mean my food not like help me lose ridiculous amounts of weight which I couldn't lose without professional help.)

^ I'm not a professional in dieting but I think I can give you a piece of advice.

Breakfast:
Bowl of Cereal or Waffle
Glass of Orange Juice
Small cup of water (4 oz maybe?)
You should increase your protein intake during breakfast in order to be full until Lunch. I used to have a bowl of Cereal with milk and a cup of orange juice. While it seems balanced and healthy, an hour later I would be hungdry again. These are some excellent examples for high Protein foods you can have for breakfast:

  • Whey Protein (or any kind of supplements).
  • Milk
  • Nuts
  • Eggs
  • Soy Products
  • Smoked Salmon
  • Cottage Cheese
And if you don't care about the high percentage of fat, bacon, ham and sausage are great.

Other than that, I don't have anything to say. Hope this helps.

I've found Weetabix to be one of the healthiest breakfast cereals in existence. In addition to the health benefits, though, they are quite tasty, low in calories and are very filling. Try not to sprinkle sugar on top though; you may have been better off with a high-sugar-based cereal instead.

I looked it up, it looks healthy. I hope they have it at my local grocery store, though. Thanks for the replies! I will try and get some protein into my diet as well.

Edit: No such luck. Although I am now having the oh-so-wonderful Hot Pockets for breakfast (The Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Variety). More filling than Frosted Flakes ^_^

Anyone fitness freaks (ie: Lee) have a "cheat" day once a week? I've found myself cheating twice during a weak, eating in excess of roughly 3000 calories over my guideline daily amount. Through the week, though, I cancel those two days off through strenuous exercise and a strict diet. But I am interested to see if there are others out there who follow a similar pattern?

Also, I tend not to weigh myself after my cheat days; water retention can mislead you into think you've piled on pounds of fat, when in reality it's just water weight.

A fantastic book to read for losing weight and keeping it off is called the Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno. Our family does this, and it has helped up maintain so much more energy than before, and stay at a healthy weight. I highly reccommend checking it out

I usually eat Special K for breakfast, the kind with the fruit and yogurt clusters in it. It's quite good for you.

I really need to find a workout buddy, I struggle to motivate myself to work out by myself. Also gym memberships are too damn expensive :(

That came up in the group Taylor - there wasn't much discussion at all on the subject but here it is anyway:

I definitely do have cheat days (assuming you mean a day where I do very little or no training and eat irresponsibly) but I never do it consciously. They just kinda happen - I'll be all 'oh, i'll train later on' and before I know it I'm over-eating because I'm bored and the promised training session just doesn't happen. Just be very mindful about them - 3000 calories over the guideline limit is waaay too much if you're not training on these cheat days - especially if it's happening twice a week. The whole 'I cancel those two days off through strenuous exercise' bit is setting off alarm bells in my head:

I had that in my first year of training and it was a really ugly period in my life. It started a lot like the situation you're describing...I was training very hard but would occassionally lose my resolve and binge eat to a ridiculous extent - I'm talking Goku levels of food consumption here. I'd feel disgusted with myself and just train for hours on end to burn it off. It really sneaks up on you and it was months before I realised I might actually have a problem. Just be aware of that, I'm probably just being over-protective.

You know, I used to feel disgusted after I consumed thousands of calories in just one evening. But now I know that if I exercise and don't over-indulge regulary, I am fine. I will admit I don't like to eat on an evening without exercise afterwards, though. I do feel that I need to partake in some activity to help the process a little.

I must admit, since Christmas, I tend to binge more often than I used to. I have gained roughly 7 pounds, but nothing major (5ft. 7 inch. / 158 pounds). Unfortunately the weather doesn't help and when I'm eating junk with mates (who are oblivious to healthy eating), it's the much easier way to live. It is difficult to get motivated again.

I play basketball for my school team, its really the only sport i stand out in. Im playing on varsity as a sophmore on 2nd string which is an accomplishment
