I'd say breed both with power items, and keep saving before talking to the guy for natures. You'll get the right nature 1/17 times, and its better than getting a good iv in one stat 1/31 times
There are 25 natures, so 1/25. You were probably thinking of 17 pokemon types? Also it's 1/32 since 0 to 31 have 32 numbers, but yeah, 1/25 is still better than 1/32. But more importantly, once an egg has been locked into the right nature, that part's fixed and done.

Hello,

I have recently purchased my copy of Soul Silver (for the DS, so no roms!).
However I am having an issue where the game freezes, especially in random battles...I then have to turn the DS off in order for it to work again.
Is there a way to fix this? Do I need to take my copy back or do all copies of Soul Silver have this?

Kind regards,
Mirae

Besides ghost/dark+fighting, dragon/ground/fire, and boltbeam +surf/grass what combinations have great type coverage?
Dragon+Fire works on everything except Heatran. It can be used by most dragons, plus Heatran itself. Primeape gets Outrage and Fire Punch, as well.

Cshadow: Genders and levels are preset. Abilities and natures are not.

Somewhere I read that it's an anti piracy used by Nintendo to prevent people from pirating the games. I believe that you should take your copy back as it may not be an original one.

I remember reading somewhere that there is an alternative method of trading Pokemon from one game to another without the use of two DS and involved GTS. Can someone enlighten me on this method?
To elaborate on what other posters said, you catch a pokemon that's rubbish but unusual (think lv. 30 Caterpie, etc), and offer to trade it on the GTS for your valuable pokemon on the other game (say, a lv. 90 female Scizor; be specific). Now, either you do the trade yourself, and you've transferred your Pokémon without trouble; or someone else gave you their overleveled Scizor for a worthless Caterpie, so either you make a profit (and can try again) or manage the trade in safety. That's probably the safest way to do it without using a second DS. (The reason you use an unusual Pokémon is so you can find the trade.)

Oh, I see...quite odd, as the game case does have the Nintendo stamp on it, as does the little manual that came with it...can it still be a fake copy despite this?

Yes. Forgers will make their forgeries as realistic as they can be bothered and think will fool people.

Also, "little manual"? The UK Soul Silver manual is about 60 pages, and is 'full size' (square, about 10cm/4 inches both dimensions). I don't know if the US manual is different...but fake games will often come with cut-short manuals.

Any tips on catching Lugia with underlevelled Pokémon? If I face it with the Pokémon I have now I'll be using more Revives than Pokéballs. I'm currently training a Flaffy to outspeed it and hit it with Thunder Wave but it's taking ages, are there any high level Pokémon I can catch that already know Thunder Wave?

The US manual is 58 pages long so if yours isn't, it's probably fake. If you're having problems like this, either your game is broken or it's fake. Either way, you should take it back.

Edit:
With the advent of the power items, which method is best for trying to get a pokemon with two perfect IVs or with a perfect IV and a great secondary IV, while having the appropriate nature:

1. Breed two parents with the desired IV while each holds a power item
2. Breed a father w/ the desired IV while holding a power item while a female with the desired nature carries an everstone.

Both methods work but which would you say is fastest?

I've heard that two Power items doesn't work from many people on here for some reason. Also, the Pokemon itself has a chance to pass down the IV of a particular stat that ranges from 1 in 6 to 1 in 2 depending on the stat, which is much less than the 1 in 32 chance of having it randomly generated as well as the 1 in 25 chance that a random nature will be passed down. So the probability of getting the Pokemon you wanted with an Everstone would be 1/2 x 1/6 = 1/12 at worst while with a Power Item it would only be 1/25. Granted, if you have 3 or more natures that work for that Pokemon or you are trying to pass on more than 3 IV's from the female, then you could be better off using two Power Items but I'm not sure two Power Items can work at the same time.

I used Lanturn's Discharge against Ho-oh which worked out well since it resisted all of its attacks besides Extrasensory. You won't be able to get a Chinchou higher than Lv. 20 right now though so your best bet is probably Flaafy. Once I got Ho-oh down to low health, I didn't really worry about my Pokemon getting OHKOd since I just kept throwing Ultra Balls at it and sometimes it got fully Paralyzed so I got an extra chance. When it ended up killing me, I just soft reseted. It only took me 5 times and about 50 Ultra Balls to get it. (About 10 each time).

Does the EXP share give EVs to the Pokémon holding the EXP share as well as the battling Pokémon? If they are then are the EVs given to the Pokémon holding the EXP share halved or not?

EXP. Share
Not only does the EXP. Share give EXP to the user holding it, it also gives EVs to the user. The user doesn't even have to be in battle to get this. This is a good way to train low level Pokemon in both EXP and EVs.

I think the pokemon recieves the full value of the EVs (i.e. if you fight a Haunter, both pokemon get 2 EVs in Sp.Atk)
