Pokemon VGC 2010 DATES / rules announced for the US!

ive actually found that ttar is very effective if you have if at the front of your team. by doing that it usually allows the opponents kyogre(as this has been the case in most of my battles) to activate rain then ttar will activate sanstorm causeing some fun stuff on their team. its just having a good defense for the dang kyogre thats fast as heck and shoots off a water spout before you can even get a taunt off or anything.

so ive given up on that and found that kyogre+thunder/perish song lapras has been easily used and annoying for opponents. and admant lucario with a quick close combat is enough to take out any palkia ive encountered in one hit.
 
Hm, looking at the wording on the site, the possibilities of a Canadian tournament look low. Too bad, I was getting interested in Pokemon again =(

You're close to Washington, correct? There's the one in Seattle May 8th if you can make it.

If you want to ensure Trick Room gets set up, you'd have to Taunt their Imprison user (and since most of the time it's Dusknoir, you can't Fake Out it) or you have to use Imprison yourself. Doing all of this just to set up Trick Room is annoying, and almost a waste of space. Man, if only the ImprisonClops team from JAA were still viable....

That sucks, because Smeargle can only learn so many moves /)_-

Rayquaza sucks, from what I've studied. Something like Tyranitar will screw up the weather even after it leaves, and Rayquaza is the frailest Pokemon in the metagame aside from Smeargle.
 
I guess we already know the dates? I got an e-mail saying this though when I asked about Canada:

The dates and locations of the 2010 VGC events will be announced next week. Please keep an eye on www.pokemonvgc.com for updates.

Referring to this:
Players may only use Pokémon HeartGold Version or Pokémon SoulSilver Version Game Cards.

  • Players at European events may only use European versions
  • Players at United States events may only use North American versions
  • Players at the World Championships may use any version
They use the word "North American" for the game card available in Canada, US, and Mexico but say "United States" events for the location.

Probably won't. I'm not expecting to do well enough for a 4 hour drive.
 
Ugh, why does VGC always get the shaft? Is TCG really that much more popular that it's played officially in like 50 countries?

Such a bummer, I really wanted a limited edition DS and free trip to Japan.

The TCG has had league support since I was a kid (since Pokemon was in its infancy in the United States). This means that there is more of a base for competitive play, and therefore, the TCG is more popular. It simply comes down to being more established.

If Nintendo took a harder competitive stance back in 2000, I bet the competitive scene would be bigger for the videogame.
 
I think it's mainly because they make money from running the TCG events. They simply don't from the VGC. Most people who were going to buy Heart Gold or Soul Silver probably would have done so regardless of the Video Game Championships. To be competitive in the TCG, many players buy boxes upon boxes of cards, which they wouldn't have otherwise if they were just casual players. So of course, TPCi will put much more effort into events that fill their pockets.

TCG gets an abundance year-round leagues, tournaments and large prizes (scholarships, etc) open to everyone. VGC gets some stupid 128 player lottery bullcrap once a year >< [/rant]

Totally agree. Its Bs that its so limited. TCG has more events because of the cards and the profit the company can make. It always comes down to the money. Sigh

Yeah, and that is REALLY starting to piss me off.

If I go to Seattle (which is getting less and less likely at this point, since they won't fucking release the dates), I have to make my reservation and book a flight.

If there's any on the East Coast, I'm going to stay overnight too - the alternative is waking up between 2-3 AM, leaving at 4 AM, then driving anywhere from 3-5 hours depending on where it's held (Philly, NY, Boston, Maryland.)

We have lives, and we also have to work. We have to request time off, and TPCi is screwing us over by not releasing the dates. They can tell us about TCG regionals, but they continue to leave us in the dark on the VGC...
 
I think drcossack speaks for everyone at this point. It is getting pretty ridiculous, especially when you compare the amount of information that the TCG players have and the amount of information that the VGC players have. I for one haven't even started breeding/catching a team because I want to know whether or not it will be worth the trouble (which it probably won't regardless of the location, because with the way things are going now it will probably be the same fucking ridiculously stupid, nonsensical, illogical lottery system as last year).

No not for everyone. I like the later dates. I didn't get in last year, so for me, the less people that know about the locations the better. So for some, this delay sucks. For others, it's beneficial.

Unfortunately, I agree. This is partially beneficial for people in the more congested areas of the country, my case being California. However, it also means that I will be relying more upon trades to complete my team.
 
Cossack makes a point about it being very inconvenient for every when it comes to everyone's real lives. PEOPLE HAVE LIVES. But if you takes it from a competitive standpoint, BadIntent makes a better point. It's MUCH better if less people know about it, since it improves your chance at winning, and heck getting in. Then again, I guess I'm biased, since I don't have to go to work or anything like that.
 
TBH, I dont see what's so hard about releasing some dates and locations on TPCi's part. In fact, last year the dates were revealed on the 8th, but this year, they most likely wont be announced till next week. Assuming it takes TPCi as long as however long it took them last year after Platinum's release to release said info, then they should've already been announced.
March 22nd (Pt.)---> April 8th locations revealed
March 14th (HG/SS)---> March 31st, they SHOULD'VE been revealed, although i doubt they would release them in the same time period.
So, a 17 day period for them to be revealed, but i guess not :(

I just dont see what's so hard about revealing them. The only reason i could see was the HG/SS recall in... well i forgot the country...
