On the Pokegym, yes M_Liesik is his username

Pokegym is not where i get it from - i get it from the Pokemon Organized Play official forums.

(You have to be affiliated with Pokemon USA to become a member - judge, league leader, or any other sort of affiliation.) I am a professor, judge, and have worked for them since 2005.

So is Mike Liesik the producer/coordinator of Pokemon events typically?

Michael Liesik
Video Game Event Planner

On my new team, which has Rayquaza...well...yeah, should I bother with Rayquaza? I think he'd do well, but everyone says he is too frail for VGC doubles.

I've had some bad experiences with Ray. As you said, he is somewhat on the frail side. I prefer Palkia because of his higher base speed, his ability to take water attacks like a pro, and his ability to work in rain.
EDIT: Post 600...

True, Palkia would potentially work better. I dunno, Rayquaza seemed to work just as well with me...I dunno, most likely I'll end up regretting using him. I guess I'll go with Palkia.

I take it you received the email with this in it today? If not, when did it hit your inbox?
Yes, I received that in my inbox yesterday.

Was there anything else in the email, and when did you send it/get the response?
No, that was the entire e-mail.

The dates and locations of the 2010 VGC events will be announced next week. Please keep an eye on www.pokemonvgc.com for updates.

It was in response to my inquiry about events in Canada.

here is the info everybody has been waiting for:

The current plan is to release full details mid/late next week. Sometimes announcements have to wait until all of the key details are in place.

Well, hopefully the key details that are getting ironed out is the elimination of the lottery. I am glad though that Mike said something quick, it shows that they are on the ball with things; I just suppose they need to get something straightened out. Even though I really want to know when the stops are, I would rather have the competition be solid and wait a few more days to see when they are instead of getting them now, but then something going horribly wrong at an event and it ends up being a waste of my time. :/ So I am glad they are taking time to make it straight, despite my yearning for dates and locations.

Yeah, that and I'm hoping they decide not make players sign up for the tournament to get the Shiny Eevee. Last year, a lot of garbage players got in and wasted player slots, even though all they came for was the Milotic.

Figured as much - Mike Liesik is very casual in his responses. I am sure he would fit in here very nicely WHEN he gets an an account here. (He lurks here all the time - it is part of his job.)

After hearing this I would be even more bamboozled if they kept the lottery system. This has been complained about consistently in pretty much every VGC-related thread you'll find on this forum, from war stories to threads like this. If I were a coordinator of these tournaments I don't think I'd have the stones to incite that kind of backlash from the most prominent Pokemon community on the internet.

What I mean is, the judges could say RNG abuse is cheating. And yeah cossack they do have the same PID; I did actually say that you know. :P

I just want all the bases covered. Even demonstrating the RNG probably wouldn't change the opinions of a judge playing strictly by the book who I imagine would still disparage RNG abuse as cheating with an external device. We have to remember that the judges aren't all going to be in the same mindset as most Smogonites, and may hold the opinion common with a lot of casual players that RNG abuse is cheating.

And I think acting clueless and saying I soft resetted for them is pretty far-fetched given the IVs and everything. So I'm not sure how to handle it. I could also maybe give a flowery description of RNG abuse, ala "Well you see, every possible individual Pokémon has a certain time it appears at..." which seems the best option at the moment if I get picked up on anything.

Let's be logical for a second, Zog. Last year the National champ had all shiny RNG'd Pokemon and there was no problem. The World champ had five RNG'd shinies and there was no problem. Many of the Japanese Regionals players competed with RNG'd shinies this year and it only makes sense that their "ubers" were RNG'd too. I don't see why there would be a problem. Of course, if you're really willing to sacrifice IVs to feel safe, that's personal call.

Perhaps if it would be easier, you could take some of my RNG abuse videos as proof of concept along with you. I heard you were planning to bring your laptop. I'd save the videos off of Youtube and keep them on for an easier demonstration.

Yeah, and the same Pokémon were used by GEC at the London qualifier where they dq'd him for "having too many Grass Knot TMs" which was obviously a bullshit excuse to exclude him based on the suspicion of cheating.

One of the most important issues this year will be the strict application of the ruleset because last year the application of the rules was somewhat arbitrary.

-_-

I have no idea what RNGing is. I just know its a number generator. lol

So we can expect more info next week? S'about time.

This is going to be my first VGC, any tips or pointers? Or maybe things to look out for?
Last year was more luck than skill just to get in, and if you were like the Philadelphia winner last year it was mostly luck that he accomplished the Ash Ketchum timely achievement. As far as things to look out for, perhaps an alternate location if you don't succeed in getting in the first time.

Like the Belgium Junior player with the "breeded" Togekiss @Tri-attack at the London VGC which has obviously been detected as hacked.
He has been able to get in after he changed his Pokémon, after his brother talked a bit with the judges... %)
He lost in Finals, and won a trip to the Worlds for both him and his brother.

Not sure about the strict application of the rules :P

Hey froggy weren't you one of the unlucky 4 who didn't get to play at London? That must've been... harsh. Especially with your travel and everything. I felt so bad for the people who didn't get through the lottery.

"NO USE OF ANY EXTERNAL DEVICES TO MODIFY YOUR POKEMON WILL BE ALLOWED"

"Oh hey, 511 EVs? That's cool, it doesn't affect your stats. We'll just pretend that we never made this rule about not allowing external devices lolololololololol"
