flash games - mark 2

I'm not stupid. The Ninja boss on Level 14 has more than 2000 HP (2500), so you can't kill him with only meteors. That's exactly why it's frustrating. Either you get the freeze, so he can't turn invisible, or he gets your gem and you fail Brilliant rating. I suppose if you sold all your towers near the spawns and on the high ground, you might be able to successfully Fear him too, but no matter what you have to rely on random chance. It's just lame.

VKCA, you have to fire meteors a bit ahead of the enemy, since the meteor deals damage on impact and not on click. Just wait until the ninja is already invisible and moving forward, since he might be difficult to hit if you fear him, then it's easy to lead him.

You sure? I killed him with only meteors, and no freezing. Or maybe I did 500 damage on the first hit, but that doesn't seem likely.

Might have burned him by accident, thats how I just got past him. The burn + initial damage from burning temple was enough to let me kill him with one meteor to spare.
Finally got brilliant on everything. Once I had the 25% freeze/burn/poison stuff it was pretty easy.

shit GemCraft is addicting

GemCraft owns Cursed Treasure and any other TD out there except maybe the Protector series. $$$$$

Oh, right, burn too... I suppose a crit from a fully upgraded Orc tower with poison might do enough damage for meteors to kill too but what kind of lamer goes anything but Crypt upgrades? :P

gemcraft is larger/more expansive but in gameplay terms i prefer cursed treasure, generally because gemcraft seems to be simply a matter of building up your mana and buying some high level gems of indiscriminate colour. it doesnt really matter what type they are because the hue of the monsters dictates how much damage they do which seems like a pretty bad cop-out to make them seem individual. there are exceptions like poison gems in traps but in general, slapping a load of towers down and putting high level gems in them does the trick

Those of you that may have heard about Flash Flash Revolution's demise will be happy to hear that it's been re-hosted at the above link. If you haven't, well, you're in for a treat.

As the name may imply, FFR is a Flash-based simulation of Dance Dance Revolution, only instead of a pad, you use your keyboard. (The default inputs are the corresponding arrow keys, though these can be changed.) The music selection is probably best described as "eclectic," with over 800 songs from a wide variety of genres. Appropriately, there are also a wide range of difficulties as well. Songs are ranked in difficulty on a scale from 1 through 12 inclusive, with 1 being good for beginners to get their feet wet with, and 12 being for the true key-smashing masters. Those of you familiar with StepMania will notice a few key differences, mainly that the timing windows are more generous and that there are no freeze arrows (an unfortunate limitation of the software employed).

I am now firmly addicted to this game, but I can't figure out how to get a log-on name.

These have probably been mentioned before, but Monster's Den is so fucking good. It's deep, it's got shitloads of loot, and it's addictive as crack, heroin, and some other really addictive drug all rolled into one. The only problem? You make a mistake, you make it permanently, since an autosave is in place. Still though, it's really good.

seconding this. the only thing I would like to add is I really like the monster design in this as the each enemy usualy has some special ability or something to that nature that prevents it from being a pushover - which is a nice refresher from the joke enemies in many rpg. It does get a bit repetitive but it is still pretty awesome overall.

No other flash game compares to the ssf2 demo version, and heck its just a demo.

Just gave this a whirl and I was pretty amazed how far it had come from the early demo versions, let alone the original ssf. Had a bit of fun despite the fact I had no clue what I was doing and had a headache to boot. I still wouldn't say no other flash compares to it but since that's pretty much an opinion / subjective / w.e, I'm not going to contest it.

couple of games I found that I liked enough to put here

Kung Fu
- Remix
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/195816

A remix of an old school beat em up. The old school difficultly makes it really rewarding at times, given the fact that some boss fights make you work for your victory. Pretty enjoyable all round, although the last boss is a pain =/

Elements
http://www.kongregate.com/games/zanzarino/elements

An online card game which is simple to learn whilst being quite deep at the same time. Also has a rather nifty pvp (player versus player) feature, which is really cool. Honestly, I really like this one.

http://armorgames.com/play/5967/bubble-tanks-arenas

The next instalment in the Bubble Tanks series, only with 300% more coke.

Basically, you can now design your own tanks with a range of shit you unlock by doing each arena, but the true clincher is the online play whereby you can battle in other people's arenas, and even make your own ones with your own unique enemies.

As I said, this thing is a drug.

Believe me when I say that FFR had a veritable cult following from roughly 2003 to 2009. I'm not 100% sure about the details of its downfall, but my best guess is that the monthly server maintenance costs eventually became too much for Synthlight to bear. Luckily, his admins were able to pick up the pieces, with Lightdarkness re-hosting the game on his domain (minus the tokens, which were basically songs you could unlock through various means) and Tasselfoot, a name some of you Kongregate/Armor Games regulars might recognize, re-hosting the forums.

History lesson aside, I don't think there is a way to sign up anymore.

Way to take a fantastic system and completely ruin it by succumbing to the appeal of easy design solutions and mainstream triteness...

i love this kind of game...too short tough

I don't understand how it can be Japan yet name its strategies after Greek gods.

Anyway, on Elements. Totally hooked, not a good card game, but a good flash card game which is new. It makes me wonder though, for something that's been around for a while and seems to have a dedicated following, they really don't make new cards very fast do they? I could come up with a couple hundred cards easy. Actually, if my current employer ever expands the way I'd like, I have some intriguing ideas for Elements if they'd like to be picked up. Back to the game, yet to defeat a false god. I constructed a rainbow deck, and I'm already sick of playing it and mostly I've been facing Level 3s just to get the money to fail against the FGs. Really need to upgrade my Otys.

It is easy to make 100 new cards. It is hard to ensure that those cards are balanced.

I'm hooked on Elements as well. As with any card game, there is a lot of luck involved. What I like about it is that there are no top decks like in Magic or Yugioh. It is impossible to build a deck that only has one or two specific counters. I've found that all types of decks are able to thrive.

Also why don't you think it is a good card game? Lack of variety, or something else?

I also made a Rainbow deck for the False God's. Specifically the one that requires the fewest number of upgraded cards for a <50% winrate.

100 cards is not alot. I'm currently tasked with making 600 cards for my employer, and for a game much more complex than Elements. Not to mention that Elements is hardly balanced to begin with, but the fun of being a designer is influencing and trying to correct a constantly shifting metagame.

As for why its not a good card game, I could say that it copies the Magic formula, though 99% of published card games copy the Magic formula, but Elements is just a tiny bit more blatant that usual. Oh well, it's a free online flash game. There's no in between step for anything. No stack, in Magic terms. This makes the very concept of control far less powerful, for better or worse, but mostly it's just less options for a designer. When I say it's a bad card game, I mean that you can't really translate it to the tabletop. There are too many truly random effects that couldn't possibly work without the computer, too much math that would slow down IRL gameplay, etc. But it's a good flash card game because a computer CAN do all these things. There's so much potential for a computer card game that Elements actually falls far short of reaching, but Elements does show that the idea can work. It's fast and fun, but hardly groundbreaking without the computer.

There's an elements website which has more stuff in it. Anyway, for that game i'm using a Fire Lance deck to beat False Gods. 4 Aether Pillars, 6 Aether shields, 6 Fire Lances, 1 Farenheit, 1 Nova, 1 Reflective Shield (Light 1 mana cost), 1 Sundial, and 12 Fire Pillars. Aether Mark. 1 Pillar is enough to take out all 6 Shields.

Just delay the turns till the last turn, release all your Fire Lances. Dead False God. Farenheit helps in dealing damage as well, 6 aether shields = 18 free 0 damage turns, Reflective shield to penetrate other reflect shields, nova to use it, sundial just because it's good.

Edit: All unupgraded. There are 10 gods you have to skip i think, mainly the ones with explosions or poisons. Creature based decks just die.

Edit edit: About flash games in general

I've finally gotten back into flash games, here are my thoughts about a few of them.

Bloons TD 4 = I reached level 103 with this (Easy Mode, the world stage). Tons and Tons of MOAB Maulers, 15 Sun Gods, Battleships where i can put them, Wizard Monkeys, 6 Research Facilities, Monkey Aces flying everywhere, Arctic Circles and Ring of Fires at each point, Glue Gunner at each curve. I could have went further but my com couldn't take it lol.

Elona Shooter = Got quite far, but got too hard lol. Gave up in getting every award for kongregate, but might go back. I remember it was an awesome game.

Several Journeys of Reemus 1,2,3,4. Awesome point and Click Adventures, with very good storylines. Try them.

Cursed Treasure = Almost finished it, but gave up as usual. Hated the ninjas, was in the process of leveling.

Monster's book: den of dreads, got the award for the survival mode, up to level 30 i think. Ranger, 2 Priests, and a Warrior. Just use all the buffs, then before killing the final monster wait and recover.

Infectionator: Finished everything. More clicks, Pass through walls and Humans help a lot, infection rate of 100% helps hugely, other then that just takes endurance (Use McD for other Heroes, Tanks for all the men in black, MJ as a backup, KFC just to keep you alive, Boomer sucks, Venom at normal soldiers.)

Going to start heroes of gaia soon.

I quitted at this stage (level 114, Easy) because it lagged my computer and Internet, and it took like 30 mins to finish 1 wave. Note: I had like 10 Banana Factories before this point, but since I got like 18-19k average on waves without the factories, I started to sell them to get place for more Sun Gods. No need to say: Nothing got past me.

Bubble Tanks 2 was an original and clever shooter, in which the player decided by himself the challenges to face, and his tools to face them, according to his preferred play style; and he decided this in real time, which is something that is extremely hard to successfully implement in a game.

Arenas is just a common shooter with customisation elements that you see everywhere else, a linear progression system that you see everywhere else, and an online mode that you see everywhere else.

A good way to improve BT2 would have been to provide more evolution options to allow for a greater variety in play styles, wider bubbles or 'interactive' ones (for example moving bubbles or with a typhoon in the middle), more ways to defeat enemies than just strafing around them, some evolution in the gameplay based on how the players acts...

Elements!!!! I Love playing Elements!!!!

Hmmm... my fav decks have to be either Rainbow Elf, Mono Gravity, or Speed Darkness... they are all fun to play, but different. Rainbow Elf is the one with the Hourglass, Fallen Elf Spam... Mono Gravity is the Otyugh/Charger set, and Speed Darkness is where you use devourers, parasites, and drains to kill someone quickly. But yah... so many strategies... so much fun =D.
