Nobody should be bringing "balance" into the issue of encourage's effect. Pokemon THEMSELVES, yes, should be balanced, but abilities don't need to be. The pokemon with encourage could just have very mediocre/bad attacking stats, or any number of other drawbacks.

You heard it, guys. 12th is the day.
But hahah of course they're fake, just look at Mijumaru's middle evo, they OBVIOUSLY will evolve it into a samurai otter.
Right?

A reliable spanish pokemon site (they gave the info about the names of the new games -Black & White- 8 days before everyone else) called pokexperto says this evos are real, even after the "confession" of the "autor". Pokexperto says they have confirmation about this but don`t want to give any source, so they are receiving a lot of bashing right now in the comments about this notice, but they still insist about this.
And now pokejungle is doubtful about the fakeness of this, and also another spanish site (zonasafari) says this:
"ZonaSafari through a trusted contact resident in the country of the rising sun, can confirm the veracity of the Pokémon revealed in a "suspicious" via 2ch few days ago.
We will not disclose the sources, as that will give problems to our contact. Just believe us."

Really.
We know they create Pokemon like a 405 SpA Nasty Plotter with a 160 Base Power Tri Attack and yet it still manages to suck.
So the whole question about whether Encourage itself is overpowered is rather pointless.
And that's not even considering the fact that the nature of the ability itself is still not 100% clear (when is it triggered and what is the multiplier).

GF has a number of ways to balance POKEMON that have great abilities and encumber statistically gifted Pokemon with terrible abilities.
Every now and again we get a rare gift (or curse, depending on viewpoint) that has the stats, movepool, and ability to be great.

I still doubt the authenticity of the evolutions. They just don't look right.

I agree. 3rd Fire still looks like Rhyperior on fire and the 3rd water just doesn't seem like a natural progression. It seems to have to little in common with 1st and 2st which are very similar.

Who knows for sure though, guess we're just going to have to wait some more.

I'm glad to see you two agreeing with each other?

Ugh... The new badge style is going to take some time to adjust to. Now they're really long. If I get bored, I'll start imagining playing with one of those things and drilling into something with them and I should not be typing when I'm really bored.

I hope Wotter's final evo is just as epic as his second is compared to his first.

Seriously, his evolution looks really different, and really cool.

And those evolutions were confirmed false by the creator days ago. What part of the Internet have you been on?

Anyone can say that they made them. I don't think he offered any concrete proof that he was the creator.

I really, really hope they're fake. The only one that makes sense is Smugleaf, and even that is a stretch as it loses it's arms.

Yeah, I agree, although losing the arms doesn't seem like an issue because they were small in the first place and (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) it is the grass snake pokemon. So, no arms makes sense.

How can I be the only person that loves the look of that supposed evo? I think people are just disappointed it's not some samurai otter, even thought it kinda sorta is. I bet he's like Swampert where he's bipedal and quadrupedal and uses his shell has a sword/shield.

I like Pokabu's too. OK, the middle form is lame, but I like the final form. And I love Smugleaf's as well. However, if I had to make a decision right now, it'd be tough to choose between Smugleaf and Wotter.

Can anyone link me to somewhere I can review all of the new shit that's known? The updates sticky is long dead and I can't go through 200 pages.

I'd more excepting of Miju3 if it was more otter-like. Miju2 made me think that, while the final form would of course differ in ways, that would-be Miju3 would still resemble an otter and such.

Not...whatever the hell this thing is.
Also if it had, like, the signature shells.

edit: I would also be more excepting if Miju 2 acted as a better transition. Maybe if the shells changed, a shell helmet (A SHELMET IF YOU WILL [I slay me]), face, quadraped, something

It just seems so weird that bipedal otters that clearly make use of their hands for their shells (Both the miju's art show their hands constantly going for their shells) and such.

Bulbapedia's translations always seem to make more sense than anyone else's.
I was just browsing the entries and noticed, that for them, Encourage = Brute Force.
That seems a lot more reasonable for an ability that boosts the power of moves and removes any 'finesse' in the form of effects.
I have no idea how faithful it is to the original Japanese though.

I am more convinced the "intended" translation would be the meaning along the lines of Encourage/Invigorate/etc. I really only think this because of Hihidharma, since Dharma dolls are used as a source of encouragement... hence the ability. However, for all we know, maybe it was supposed to have a double meaning.

As far as the "evolutions" are concerned, the only reason I am doubting them (besides the usual-- you know, dubious source and the author's supposed admission) is the Mijumaru final evo. It just makes no sense whatsoever. Perhaps as a standalone Pokemon it'd be okay but as an evolution to Mijumaru2 it doesn't seem logical at all. Like R_N said, if there had been a better show of progression, like more armor or a helmet on the second form, it'd be more believable, but I'm just not feeling it. And for something that clearly could use a shell in its hands as a weapon for the first two stages, evolving into something that can't, at least, not based on what I see, doesn't make any sense.

EDIT: Now that I think about, where did people ever get the idea Swampert is quadrupedal? I always thought it kinda walked like an ape. Then again, I don't know if that's technically considered "bipedal". I've never seen it in the anime though so I don't know what it shows...

I think people dislike it because it is really ugly, and looks nothing like Mijumaru at all. Generally, evolved forms of Pokemon have at least something in common with prior forms. Especially starter Pokemon.

n00b question time again...

how long after the release of B&W will we get sufficient guides on how to ev train/iv breed/rng abuse?

also, will the moves retain the physical/special spilt?

EDIT - if you think Miju3 is ugly because he doesn't look like his previous evos, then TTar and Dnite are uglier than justin bieber.

Moves will retain the physical/special split. Gen 3 kept the Special Attack/Defense split. Gen 4 kept abilities/natures/EV/Doubles. Gen 5 will keep the physical/special split, of that I'm absolutely sure.

Also, I'm sure within a week or two, we'd have a basic EV guide.

Also, Tyranitar actually looks like a chunkier, spikier Larvitar. Dragonite keeps a basic 'Wyrm-Worm' shape of Dratini, if a bit chunkier, and a similar head shape apart from those antennaehorns. I can definitely pick those two out beside their prevos.

TTar and DNite both share pretty clear similarities to their prevos. Miju3 really just... doesn't look like them. I hope that's not what Miju3 will look like because I generally pick up the water type.
