Media Minecraft Discussion Thread

I have set up a vote as suggested by forks for the stricter enforcement of the immediate spawn area in the social group: here. The vote will last a week but please decide quickly. I have decided this to be general instead of "this building needs to die" for a general philosophy on how spawn should be developed on this map from here on out.
 
OK SO: for people who think spawn suncks and want a change of pace (I dont think it sucks but it needs work!!), come to Oho Oasis! It's the spiritual successor of Blooper Bay from Smogcraft 1.0 with the same rules: you can only use wood and sand to build with. This means things like planks, leaves, glass, sandstone etc etc etc but PLEASE NO STONE OR BRICK OR WOOL OR OTHER MATERIALS if you use them I will cry and it will make the area less pretty =(

Coords are x = ~220, z = ~-800
 
tennins do you have any screens of this or of blooper bay i never saw it the whole time i was on 1.0 and it sounds p interesting!!

I feel that if people put up these rules beforehand because they wanna make a little community place somewhere this should be enforced by anyone building there.

If you do not follow these rules you will get the chance to convert the materials to allowed stuff, if you however don't do this in a given amount of time the "mayor" of that place will get the right to remove the building.

EDIT : ths is just my thought on the matter.. no official statement ... :)

I thought this was understood because thats how it worked last time! And az there are screenshots by black buddha somewhere, also if you download the old smogcraft map you could see it too

I am intrigued, always wanted a beach house. Guess I'll check this out :D

Edit: Well once the server comes back up anyways lol.
 
okay so there has been a lot of negativity on the server lately regarding the black/yellow wool tower and agamemnon's sand structure

i'd like to remind everyone that smogcraft does have a strict rule against being a jerk, so if you could kindly refrain from being total fucking assholes about every building that doesn't live up to your fashion standards, i think we'd all be a lot happier. you don't have to like every building on the server - you don't even have to pretend to. but there is a thick, salient line between voicing your opinion and douching it up, and if you can't be bothered not to cross it, i don't want you on my server.

i've always maintained that smogcraft is basically a democracy, so due to widespread demand i've authorized a poll to determine the fate of vonfiedler's tower. let it be made clear that this is not to be a regular thing; it is a one-time measure enacted to reduce bitching. there will not be another poll of this nature. ever. don't want people constructing ugly buildings in your beloved spawn? then fill it up with pretty ones yourself instead of running off and building your base a thousand blocks away.

until you can learn to play nice together, anyone caught being a jerk will be shot (or tempbanned).

Tennis is a mean, so listen to this nice user when he tells you that oho is a nice place if you follow the building code n.n
 
Oho Oasis is the best but it is still a work in progress I feel like it needs to be less residential and have some more oasis flair to it! I am gonna make a smoothie shack for it on the beach and possibly some beach like stuff to it like the umbrella tennisace put there! I just need more ideas and to be not terrible at building first.
 
Oho Oasis is really neat...just trying to come up with a nice beach house to build there now...

We are allowed to build houses by the beach I hope? And the trees in the farm are free for use if we replant as well right?

yep just dont take up the whole beach i.e. we should be able to walk on a beach of like 3-4 width. Also the trees are for everyone, I had it planted as all oak because that tower with dirt on it/house is mine and its going to be the light house. Usually I plant 4 rows of Birch, 4 rows of oak, and 2 rows of pine. Just plz replant!
 
That jungle biome looks so amazing. Are those new kind of trees? They look super tall, and they have a 4 thick trunk. This should be even more amazing once vines are climbeable.

As for Oho Oasis, yea everyone feel free to come and check us out. If you still like your beloved stone brick and nethebrick and all I don't think tennis has a problem with using it to decorate your interiors. As for the more oasis-y feel, I'll start putting palm trees up in places like the one next to the umbrella. Can't wait for the smoothie shack too Xaq!

I think we have a lot of the basics covered though. We have a small tree farm, a small sugarcane farm, a small melon and pumpkin farm and a wheat farm which I plan to expand over the next few days. There is also a skeleton spawner nearby which I'll try and convert to an XP grinder or leave it as a arrow / bone machine. Maybe even both...

And thanks to wyverii and gk for visiting my little house ^___^ ily too

Time for the snapshot of week 3, 2012! List of changes, since 1.1 last week:

  • Ladders regained their collision box, and vines are climbable when they have a solid block behind them
  • Added jungle biome (requires a new world) with new tree and leaf types
  • Updated language files
  • Dispensers will place mobs instead of releasing the spawner egg
  • Zombies have new path-finding AI
  • Wolves have new AI and can be bred (when tame)

Pretty cool update, but ANOTHER new world required if we want Jungles... when will it settle down enough for us to actually play????
 
all these little updates fuck up the flow. Can't they just release one each 2 months instead of what looks like every other week.. :/
 
jungles look great, but i am not downing for starting over at all; i've put in a shitton of work into this server and one new biome isn't enough to convince me to give it all up
 
Yeah, unless Jungle biomes are adding monkeys and bananas, I can live without extra big trees and vines.

Besides, then we'll have more complaints about not properly disposing of leaves once people start chopping away at the big trees.
 
Oh excellent. If the jungle biome has new trees that could possibly mean new saplings. Maybe spawn a few of those in so people can try them out. It's unlikely we'll need the actual biome itself.

As a matter of fact all of those updates are extremely useful. Wolves have been in need of better AI for quite some time and a way to breed them.
