I've heard some rumors that you need a player ID (a personal code or number) so as to play in the european VGC's. I've tried registering at the offical webpage but I can't figure out how to get that ID.

If anyone here has attended any european VGC THIS YEAR, how did you get the code or can you simply show up at the event and sign up?

Thanks.

To receive it through the Pokemon website, the process is described here. However if you do not get a Player ID in advance, they can give you one when you register at the event itself (they did that at UK VGC last week).

If I have a glaceon out and my opponent sends out a ninetales, would it be worth the extra damage to use HP ground instead of blizzard, with a choice scarf?

I'm not asking for a damage calc, i'm asking if it is worth it to be locked into HP ground instead of Blizzard for a bit more damage on ninetales.

That's a pretty complicated question, and there's really no simple answer. It depends on what other Pokémon your opponent has, what other Pokémon you have, whether you're still able to switch out, etc. That sort of judgment will have to come with experience.

I am not sure if Ninetales can OHKO Glaceon with Heat Wave, but it will likely do massive damage and leave you in the kill range of practically anything. Ninetales also has a surprising amount of SpDef, I have a feeling it won't be 2HKO'd be HP Ground. Blizzard is likely to do enough to their other poke it's the better option, but unless TR is getting set up by your partner, Glaceon will be KO'd before it can do anything the next turn. If your opponent has a Sun team or many Fire type pokes, Glaceon just isn't a very good idea.

Glaceon is scarfed meaning it's much faster than you'd expect

That's situational. You'll have to think about your opponent's team and most likely moves during the battle. And he said Trick Room which would make your Glaceon basically the slowest Pokemon on the field.

Do FEAR strategies work well in the VGC? I'm thinking no due to the abundance of priority and Pokemon immune to Sandstorm.

I have never seen one used to good effect. I saw a few cotonee's trying it last year though. It's really not worth trying IMHO, as there's Sandstorm/Hail, many priority users, and spread moves that will mess it up fairly readily.

Haha I had been considering Lv 1 Endeavour Smeargle earlier without even knowing this was posted. The same issues came up before I actually took the though very seriously, weather is just so prominent at the moment it would be hard to use effectively

And even if they don't have any of those things, it's terribly predictable (why else would you have a level 1 mon?) so most people will just double-target it, at which point all you're really doing is getting them to ignore your partner for a turn so you'd probably be better off with a bulky Follow Me/Rage Powder user.

Edit: I just suddenly thought of an idea involving Shell Bell Aron and a series of Fake Out users. Still gimmicky as hell, but it might do some damage against an unprepared opponent.

L1 Smeargle could have made sense when Dark Void was allowed. You could Fake Out and Trick Room, then Dark Void with incredible speed, then Endeavor, etc. But now, I guess you could Spore, but I don't think it would really be worth it. There are others who do it better.

Berry Juice Aron is probably one of the best L1 Pokemon, since it takes 3 hits to KO. Which is tecnically more durable than some of the L50 Pokemon that are used. >_>

Shell bell Aron is very effective but requires alot of prediction. Know when to protect with aron, and have your partner be someone who can do alot of damage as players will almost always double target aron. Thats were protect works wonders.. Feint/encore infernape works quite well with aron. A few japanese players used it in the early stages leading to our fall vgc. Quite fun too.

Are all the Official VGC tournaments double battles?

I think I read somewhere (possibly even on the official site) that they use 2v2 battles to speed up tournament matches.

If this is the case, do they ever do 1v1 battle tournaments anymore?

Yes.

1 vs. 1 Tourneys aren't really done by The Pokemon Company anymore because of what you said in the second sentence.

Yes, VGC is exclusively double battles. In terms of VGC, at least, there are no single battle tournaments.

i'm looking for someone to take a pokemon request and nobody in the free mons thread seems to be replying after a few days of waiting. is anyone able to perhaps take a strange request?

Maybe try a polite VM to one of them? The best RNGers are in that thread, so it's probably worth waiting for, considering your regional is a little way off. I imagine they're really overwhelmed with any last EU National requests, so once that backlog has cleared, I'm sure someone will be able to help you, no matter how strange.

That being said, someone may come forward from here, so worth a post I guess.

yeah i've sent a few along the lines of "no worries if you can't do it", but i'm just wanting a reply so i can go off and find someone else. it's a ways away but i'd like it before my exams begin and such, in case i'm not around as much. i figured there are a lot of active users in this thread so it was worth a shot.
