League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

also does anyone here have draven? I'm really tempted to buy him but i don't want to splash out real money without anybody elses thoughts

I'm generally never in favor of buying characters with RP, especially when it isnt a 6300 on sale for half RP, so I wouldn't suggest the purchase even saying this, but I love Draven. Got him with IP last night and played 8 or 9 games with him today. First game was a little awkward as I got used to it but got fed in every other game I played with him but one (because we had a leaver and didn't end up actually playing it out). 3-1 with him in solo queue including the leaver loss. He's fun and strong right now; unique mechanic with the axes that's sort of fun to deal with (though I tend to be way too lazy to juggle when I'm farming unless I plan on engaging or the other team is positioning really poorly so I'm getting a lot of easy trades) but not super cumbersome, good toolset with synergy (Q catches resetting W cooldown is neat), global ults are always fun, combination of utility/damage/mobility enough that he'll probably be decently high tier. Probably the best dialogue in game.

I was just playing around with Draven in a custom to get used to his skills but I don't really like the reset mechanic on his W. It's too short a duration to make much use of the AS steroid unless you're catching your axes but to do that you have to waste time repositioning. Taking time to reposition is time spent not autoattacking consecutively and making use of the steroid. It feels very cumbersome to me and only particularly useful if you can just stand in place dealing the deeps, which doesn't happen that often. (Even standing still, you often have to shift a little to the left or right to catch axes and that's really annoying.) It also empties your mana pool in about five seconds unless you want to buy a Manamune. :P

That said, it's not like he's worthless without juggling his axes. He still has the ranged attack and great base AS that define an AD carry, the highest base AS tied with Twitch actually (but lower growth). Even if you just get a couple Spinning Axes ready before a teamfight and make no attempt to re-catch them, you're getting 85% bonus damage on your first couple attacks. That's like automatically critting except Spinning Axe isn't actually a crit, so it still stacks with your crit chance for tons of damage. The fact that you can continue dealing stupid damage if you can properly guide your landing points and keep juggling, not to mention keep Blood Rush active, makes me think that anyone who can master him can make him undisputed king of DPS (though he might still have competition from Kog and Vayne's percentage-based on-hit effects). Stand Aside is also a nice little bit of utility and his ult is hilarious, even if it is a crappy version of Ezreal's.

It also makes me wonder if he wouldn't make a decent bruiser. Build tanky so you don't have to zone yourself out of catching axes just because someone plants an AoE on your landing zone, rip people to shreds anyway because you have a fucking 85% AD steroid that's always on. Dare I say that seems pretty damn broken to me?

Also yeah it seems like they put an awful lot of work into him (funny, he's only the 99th champion). Draven out! Draven's makin' an exit! *pose*

I think Riot has been releasing champs that help increase the player base skill level. Varus really encourages positioning and fine-tuning skill shots.
Draven promotes movement in between auto-attacks... something A LOT of people, myself included on occasion, do not utilize.

Don't disageee with MrE that catching shit in teamfights especially is a little annoying, especially once you get PD as the bonus AS makes you sacrifice more autos, and there's times it's a dps loss to catch shit even if youre trying to lead the axe because you cant waste movement on chases and such, but given that his damage is still pretty reasonable with W not being reset much and just using Q as one of the games better onhit bonuses i feel like it works out fine for him, though it may put him on the OP side as people get better at him. His suboptimal DPS is still above average and his max DPS is just ridiculous.

I actually find his mana to be Darius-tier hard to run out of if you arent trying to keep juggling/w resetting when you arent getting any real benefit from doing so in lane. EWQQ(or EWQWQWQ stuff if youre not already at the turret) type harass you can sustain forever and isnt as obvious to your target as juggling axes is since E's range is deceptively long and you arent reminding them youre threatening them by throwing an axe every couple of seconds.

Great animations too, btw. Definitely the second easiest AD to last hit with, imo, even though his wave clear is mediocre.

Who do you figure is the easiest, Synre? Cait? Graves?

Also, is Fiora worth picking up?

Fiora is not worth picking up, she is too weak right now. At least from a competive standpoint, you'd be better off investing in someone else.

Cait would take my vote for "Easiest to last hit with" if you exclude abilities, including them would shift things around quite a bit.

Just sit back and think about Draven, you need to be Attack moving to play him effectively. You shouldn't be missing out on auto's at all. His axe goes ahead of wherever he is facing so it's really down to basic micromanaging skills to keep your W up consistently. Juggling two axes will come in time, but for now just focus on using your axes to reset your W. You shouldn't ever be sitting still as an AD carry, you should be repositioning yourself constantly. Positioning is the most important thing that you have to master in order to be strong in that role. Knowing who, where, and when to attack and realizing what you can and cannot do (taking advantage of opponents misplays or their being out of position) Playing an AD carry is a lot like playing rugby, you keep poking up and around the front lines before you see an opportunity to burst through and destroy the opposing team.

A very nice video explaining AD carry positioning.

A very nice guide explaining the role of the AD carry and what it should be doing, what meshes well together.

I'd say he is very strong right now, but he can be counter picked and neutralized by using CC effectively and strong burst damage. Blitz, Alistar, Taric, etc.. All very good picks against Draven. I'd say he's relatively balanced for what they want him to do, people just don't know how to play against him yet. (Or how to play him, for that matter)

From the jungle, Nocturne has a field day with Draven. Much like he does with Kog'maw. The lack of an escape mechanism leaves him open to assassin characters and makes positioning very important. This coupled with his need to catch axes to reset his W cool-down makes him a very intensive character to play optimally. I haven't had this much fun with a champion in a long time.

Volibear is annoying as hell. The end.

Try playing Riven against him, she's a pretty fun champ with a lot of favorable match-ups.

I don't know whether Fiora is tournament viable or not, but I don't think that is a reason not to buy her if you would like to play her in normals or solo queue. I'm not sure if she's even fun or anything, though I would personally like to try her very much; I just disagree with Ravix's attitude... You should ask SD about his Fiora mid. :) Though, of course, there are always people who will bitch at you for picking something that isn't a top ten champ / playing things like Fiora mid.

Presumably not coming any sooner than a week and a half from now since we just had a patch but some more patch notes on the test realm: http://www.reignofgaming.net/news/20655-unofficial-patch-notes

Kog'Maw, Kennen nerfs only real thing of note which wouldn't be too surprising. Will be interesting to see if anyone who does particularly well this weekend gets balanced in a hurry.

why do i have this feeling it was someone who actively reads this thread?

Because you're an idiot? Seriously...

Who do you figure is the easiest, Synre? Cait? Graves?

I'd meant Graves, but it was technically true of Caitlyn, too. I tend to forget Caitlyn is a character since she's like completely extraneous at this point. Bad scaling, only really strength is being a lane bully but doesn't bully as well as Urgot(and sort of sieging turrets but it's not a significant difference over other ADs), not a particularly fun character, either. Really weak kit given that you basically shouldn't be using Q at all in the late game and usually shouldn't be using R because they're both DPS losses.

A bit late but I would like to point out that draven is the only champ that can kill leavers on demand post 6. Due to a bug with them not gaining bonus armour. It's not really practical and a bit of a dick move but if you really want to win then...

I'm sure that will be fixed asap, pretty funny oversight though. Doesn't even have to be impractical, can be incidental :P

ETA: Well, the concluding game of CLG.eu vs. TSM was one of the best games I've seen in the time I've played LoL, perhaps even the best (even if it left a sour taste in my mouth). Froggen was definitely a star in those games, with some lovely moments from Krepo!Leona in games 1 and 3 and nice coordination with Wickd's Shen ults. Some great play from TSM as well, but I'm sad because both teams I cheered for today lost, and Dan Dinh already acknowledged every single detail twice over, so no need for me to mention. Froggen's quadra at baron was a genuinely moving moment, and his Anivia walls were all so solid up until the final teamfight. #tf2 talked a bit about the fact that Wickd took Shen all three games and that TSM chose not to ban Shen, and there was no real consensus on whether it was smart or not; I feel that, while TSM did win the series, Wickd was able to convert a lot of their attempted plays because of good coordination (and, at one point, a hilarious bait on Reginald), and Shen really cockblocked them outside of top lane. I'm glad I watched this series, even if the result was not in my favour; nobody can say CLG.eu didn't put up a good fight, even in game 1, where they were solidly dominated from the jungle outwards and yet made some good counterplays. Likewise, TSM clung on pretty hard in game 2, and in 3 to make that silly comeback, so it was a very entertaining and intense back and forth.

clg played without sound all 3 games, huge testament to them for having it that close
