Gen VII: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New info Post #5834)

2. I say Australia because on 4chan a supposed Game Freak employee drew all the upcoming Pokemon from memory(Sorry I couldn't find the post, Tyranitartube did a video on it. You may want to watch it). The list is somewhat convincing and looks like something Game Freak would do. Many Pokemon on the list can be connected to Australia and seem like they would fit into a tropical setting.

Just a heads up, this is always a hoax. People are scarily good at drawing Fakemons, and actual Game Freak employees hold their cards closer than that. If something is legitly leaked, it will be backed up by other sources soon enough. 4chan hasn't been a source of actual Pokémon news for as long as I can remember, but pretend news are spewing forth from there almost continuously.

EDIT:
The good news is that most of the news happened on the 15th at latest every month, so we might get something in the next few days. Likewise, the bad news is if we don't get anything by the 15th there's probably going to be nothing till at least the second week of April.

That's just the date CoroCoro releases. In reality, we got it a few days earlier, when the contents of the magazine were leaked.

It also doesn't make sense why a GF employee would risk their job just to leak some info that'll become will known later in the year. The only reason I could see someone doing that is if they've been just fired (I'd also say laid off, but being its usually not your fault when laid off that would damage their career) and not care about their further career in the industry. Though that said, I'm also guessing everyone is under a non-disclosure agreement and are under risk of legal action if the leak can be traced back to them.

The only reason I bring it up is last time a supposed GF employee leaked something it was the Unova middle starters and that turned out to be correct.

It'd be cool but at the same time I don't want them to do it due to the insane workload that'd require which would dwarf other features. This would require making overworld models for all 721 Pokémon, and then many forms and all the new Gen 7 'mon and do walking animations for all directions. That would just be way too much in my honest opinion, especially for something that is really just a cute little touch. I'd prefer they brought back other dropped features like clothing and the battle frontier.

To be fair, they've reused models from other sources before, and if they got the models from PSMD I think they could work quite well as overworld models.

ah, good ol' wottergate

Looking at the sales numbers from Emerald / Platinum / Crystal / Yellow, I am unsure whether to believe that Gamefreak will do a third game again. The above performed really poorly compared to their predecessors, and they've publicly made comments that players don't care about the post-game. Which might be true for casual players, but they've got to know the core enjoy them right? And they must have foreseen that the "third" game would not perform as well.

I was hedging a lot of this idea on Z, and we got Sun and Moon. Kalos had a lot of potential and it's frustrating that they left it like that. Just seems deflating for them to leave so much unpolished and to ignore their core audience.

Whatever we get in Sun and Moon should at the very least not leave players anticipating a third version for a polished product. R/B, G/S, and R/S were not games that I played and thought "Okay so they rushed this." D/P were, but they did Platinum. I'd hate to look back on Kalos feeling like it was the lamest region so far.

I feel like GF should hold back the release of the two main games and include the cool postgame content in the main two games. One of the few reasons why I like emerald and platnium was the presence of a battle frontier, not some single derpy battle area. If they just included that stuff in the main games, they would cater to the core that enjoys postgame content, as well as keep the sales from the first release.

I half wish this new one would be on the 3DS too because I think I'm one of 10% of 8th graders that some how doesn't have a phone yet.

I just don't want to download like any games to my phone. I like never play games on my phone, and I have no reason to start.

Australia has a classic Pokemon layout. Big city (Sydney or Melbourne), huge desert, island for a water route (Tasmania). Plus plenty of dangerous animals. Would love to see Australia Pokemon-ized.

Agreed. Would rather them focus on post-game than making the Pokemon following work correctly.

If When they do Australia, I want demand a Megalania Priscus Pokémon, and a Killer Kangaroo fossil.
And who wants wild Totodiles?!! And if there is a Tasmania island, I demand a Tasmanian Tiger Pokémon!

I'm rather ambivalent towards the Pokemon following you. On one hand, it would be cute, but on the other, I think it's something that should only be done if Game Freak can implement it. And I don't its absense would be a huge detriment to the game as a whole.
As much as I liked the follow feature, I agree that should be worked on only when they've finished doing everything else. An extracurricular development if you will. I'd much rather have a better post game and Battle Frontier first.

I completely adored the postgame of Platinum. There was just so much to do, and having that island to explore was the best thing that GF have ever done for the sake of fans (Black City/White Forest's dungeons+hard mode and the Battle Frontier are neat gimmicks, the Looker Beuraux arc of XY was touching and being able to re-explore Kanto and defeat Red was cool in gen 2, but I liked the idea of having a tropical island that you could do what you wanted with even more than that). In the postgame features of other games, it feels too much like you are being pushed towards your objective (eight more gyms need beating to fight Red, the battle frontier is constantly pushing you to get better, the dungeons in Black City and White Forest are trials that the game actively tells you to conquer, the Looker Beuraux keeps dragging you back in to what is admittedly a rare case of genuinely good storytelling in the series and the Delta Episode has its own sense of urgency attatched to it as well as being really disappointing outside of that badass Zinnia battle music). However, Platinum allowed you to go there and explore to your leasure. You have your own holiday home and the wonderous pond with level 100 Magikarp to the east, you have Stark Mountain and the battle zone to the north, and you have the battle frontier to the south. Once you unlock the ability to access the rest of the island (not an arduous task at all), the game stops telling you what to do and where to go, leaving it all down to the player. This is what I want them to do for S/M's postgame, and it is also the reaon why I stand by Platinum having the most enjoyable postgame. If we get another battle island, I will be overjoyed. If we get a rehash of the god-awful delta episode, however, I will be really, really pissed.

I think the problem is that, at least to me, the Delta Episode isn't proper postgame. Yes, it technically happens after the credits roll, but it's really just an extension/completion of the story. You're still being forced down a path. Postgame should be things you can do at your leisure (see: Battle Frontier, DPP Battle Zone, PWT, etc.).

Actually, one thing I've sorely missed in Gen VI that I hope comes back in Sun/Moon is something like Cerulean Cave, Sky Pillar in R/S, Stark Mountain, and Giant Chasm in BW1: A long, complicated postgame dungeon, filled with tough Pokemon (or, even better, Trainers), with a legendary at the end. Not one that you're forced through for the sake of the story - one that you explore simply to see what lies within. Something you have to go out of your way to find (Fun fact: Back in Ye Olde days of no Google/Bulbapedia/Serebii, I spent more than 3 months looking for Sky Pillar in Sapphire). Something that gives you that sense of accomplishment once you finally conquer it. I guess Terminus Cave sort of counts, but given that it's on the beaten path and you can fully explore it (minus Zygarde) before you beat the game, it just doesn't feel the same. I think that's why Gen VI has felt incomplete: I've sorely missed the huge side dungeons of yore.

Wouldn't the Tasmanian Tiger mon be the fossil?

I certainly wouldn't mind the region being based on Australia. At least then when the trains don't go anywhere we won't be able to speculate where they go in the third game, it'll just be an accurate representation of the train system here...

I personally hold the theory that, while there will be new Pokémon, there won't be any new starters. If there were, we'd have seen at least silhouettes of them by now, as BW revealed its starters almost immediately after the announcement, and XY revealed them before the freaking title of the game...

Merchandising alone will mean that we will get new starters for a LONG, long time.
Also, the whole shtick with a new gen is that you go on a new adventure with a NEW starter...
I wouldn't mind if a few starters became normal wild pokemon as time goes on though, like giving Totodile a 3-5% chance to appeared in a swamp etc.

I didn't mean to say that there won't be new starters ever - just that Sun&Moon won't get any.

I'm hype. (and late)

Now I can actually afford that vacation to Hawaii, though.

Blasphemy!
Silhouettes shmilhouettes, we're talking about a series of games that has stuck by the same formula of "new kid on the block gets a cute little pokemon; goes to earn some boy scout badges and then becomes the champion of glorified cock fighting" for two decades.

It's tradition.

If there isn't a new water type starter that's an adorable pineapple/surfboard hybrid I'll ... probably, most likely send a strongly worded letter of complaint to someone and end up buying the game anyway.

1) They wouldn't do it. If you are going to change something, it needs to spice things up. No new starters (which would require previous ones) would be the opposite of that.
2) Each release is different. Just because they revealed the Unova and Kalos starters that early means nothing. I actually just looked it up and the Sinnoh starters weren't revealed until the September 2006 issue of CoroCoro. That's the same month that Diamond and Pearl were released.
3) Just because they haven't been revealed yet doesn't mean anything. I mean, we've seen nothing of the final game other than the previous reveal of Magearna and that's just the official Sugimori art*.

*The wireframe bird Pokémon doesn't count. It's not even finished!

This would be funny as they might make another mega kanga.

Is it possible Magearna will be the box cover pokemon or have anything to do with the main story?

How sad. :( Condolences to his family and thankfully his daughter is safe sans minor injuries.

Here's his Bulbapedia profile. His most notable works are the international logos for the TCG since Nintendo took over (though some he co-created), Dream Radar, and Pokemon the Series: XY. He also made the artwork for some of the TFG cards.

It looks like this thread is starting to exhaust the amount of things to talk about regarding Pokémon Sun and Moon for the time being. Even the meta discussion about news reveals is getting a little thin by now. To avoid cluttering the thread and make mod duties a little easier, we'll find one of those adorable fluffy yellow padlocks and hang on it until more news emerge. It'll be open again somewhere around the 10th of April unless we see more news by then. If you find anything claiming to be legit news, send a PM to me, DHR-107 or NoCheese.

Until then, see you all in the other various threads in OI!
