Ask a simple question, get a simple answer - VGC edition

I was planning on using a tailwind team for vgc. So far I have
Tornadus- Tailwind User
Scrafty- Fakeout user
Terrakion- Speedy Attacker
Metagross- Bulky Attacker
Any suggestions on any more pokemon and also any thing that would work better?

Its a matter of playstyle and taste, but I've found Adamant Meinshao to be a great lead support for Tailwind. He has fake out, cannot be faked out, and has high enough Atk and Spd Stats to make good use of Tailwind. Personally, I'd suggest him over Scrafty, but that's just me.

Perhaps a simple question?

I've been lurking here for ages, and I finally have the guts to start asking questions for VGC 2012 around here. But the first question I have has to do with the construction of my next to-be team.

For anyone who has gone and seen the actual results of the regionals in terms of pokemon usage (I've looked at the PO statistics, but PO honestly doesn't nearly reflect real usage too accurately), what would the average speed of the opponent's team be? Without Scarfing included, and try not to reference TR teams.

(Now that I'm looking at this, this isn't that simple of a question...)

I'm not too sure if an average team speed is what your looking for here. After all, it doesn't help you build a team if I say that a team's average speed is 144, but the team contains 3 Pokemon with 90 speed, and 3 with 178. If you went with some +Speed Base 80s, that have 145 speed, in order to one up the opponent's average team speed, you'd end up in the middle of nowhere.

As such, information on where individual common Pokemon usually end up speed-wise is more important, as opposed to averaging things out. You will often to see a lot of Pokemon have around 80~100 speed, 132~145 speed, and 167~183 speed, excluding Trick Room Users/Pokemon, Scarfers, and Pokemon under the influence of Tailwind, Swift Swim or Chlorophyll.

Hopefully this helps.

It does in a sense, primarily I want to see if I can't get a common worst-case scenario to know if I can give any more precise EVs in speed to my team rather than just dump an inordinate amount into them. I've been playtesting and unfortunately it's really hard to discern what a "good speed" would be.

Why Close the posts of Europeans Nationals? -.-
We were going to wait until 2012 for the 2012 topics. We may be starting earlier than we were going to because of the dates though. Although knowing who is willing to do the topics is good. I'll send you a PM with graphics that you can use when the time comes!

Yeah, I just wanted the threads to be up so that the main information of each event is there, linked from the sticky but the threads will open nearer the events for discussion on everything.

edit - they're open for business.

This might be a dumb question, but with europe vgc's being announced I was wondering will the japanese have a chance of having a vgc, or are they going to be sitting out this year too?

They will more than likely have their VGCs like normal, along with other contries close by, like Korea I know will also be having VGC there. This is mostly assuming Japan will be the same.

Is enigma berry legal in VGC 2012? Im pretty sure that you can obtain it in Gen V by using thief on a Trainer's Pokemon which is holding it...

There's a Japanese and European event Darkrai that came holding the Enigma Berry, which makes it legal. But it's still inferior to the Sitrus Berry in every way.

Unless you already are using Sitrus. BlueCookies came relatively close to using Enigma Berry on his Thundurus, for a bulky team which can make great use of these types of items it is definitely a viable alternative.

Is available any information about Japanese and Korean VCG tournaments? Are Japanese and Koreans participating in 2012 edition?

No information has been announced for Japan or Korea yet. However, there is no reason to believe that they won't be participating in 2012.

So this year's regionals is a swiss tourney with tiebreakers being the opponent's win percent? For the tiebreaker, is it their win percent at the round you played them or their percent at the end of the tourney? If you go undefeated, is it possible for you not to get first place because of who they matched you up with?

End of the tournament. And no, usually there is only one person undefeated at the end of the tournament so they'll automatically win.
