It just depends on what you want to do with it. I, and a lot of other people, use 252 Spd just to outspeed other SS mons.

So I just get back and the next vgc is already posted, and its already about to happen. This is gonna suck trying to get ready quickly. Anyone know the reason for the huge change this year?

That was mostly a TCG move. People were not attending Regionals because they were so late in the season that most people would have gotten the ratings that they needed to qualify for worlds.

I'm going to a November Regional and I'm not having any problem getting ready. I don't see the problem.

Ferrothorn is pretty rare in VGC 2012 from what I can tell, but I have seen it used and it can work quite well. Since it's known for its ability to destroy Rain Teams, having a Kabutops with Low Kick is probably a good idea for the few cases that Ferrothorn ever shows up. Unless the team has some other ways to handle it, of course.

Does anyone use Ferrothorn in doubles? I never see it.

As Rinanimate said it destroys rain, bar them running toxicroak. Though Im pretty sure ferra can take a hit and still go on. I've used it so I know its effectiveness vs rain. You might occasionally see it in trickroom teams too.

Kabutops with Low Kick

Ferrothorn

:O

Honestly, just run Toxicroak, which is what rain should be doing anyway. Low kick Kabutops is like, I dunno, I wouldn't even suggest it if I was trolling cause it looks like obvious trolling. There is literally no situation in which that kind of Kabutops would be a productive member of any team, never mind purposefully using one to beat Ferrothorn which it most certainly doesn't. There's bringing a knife to a gunfight, and then there's bringing a "Man love rules OK" t-shirt on a redneck hunting trip.

Life orb ftw. It gives you moar power in each hit which toxicroak NEEDS. I mean your still gaining around 12.5% factoring surf and dryskin, and not to mention drain punch. Now if you have another mon using LO, then give it black sludge, which it still really doesn't need as it can get ohko'd fairly easily.

I don't think you would run Low Kick for Ferrothorn on Kabutops. Life Orb Low Kick from an Adamant max attack Kabutops is going to OHKO most Tyranitar (it's stronger than Weavile's Jolly Low Kick by quite a bit!).

Weavile's main reason for using Low Kick is Tyranitar, which is going to be most likely in the Top 5 pokemon used in the tourney. That's why you would run it. Aqua Jet is probably better, and if you are looking to counter Ferrothorn, rain pokemon aren't your best bet. Go with a strong bulky fighting type like Conkeldurr or Mienshao/Hariyama/Hitmontop (for Fake Out support).

I have 2 questions:

1) How is the power of beat up determined. I already know the # of times it hits is determined by the # of mons you still have, just not how powerful it is.

2) Does resist berries work throughout the duration of a attack.

EX: breloom uses bullet seed to terrakion, and rindo berry is activated. Bullet seed hits 3x.

Does the rindo weaken all hits or just the 1st bullet seed.

1. There was a post on this somewhere, I'll try to find it and edit it in.

EDIT: Here you go

2. Resist berries only work on the first hit of a multi-hit move, so Rindo Berry is activated on the first hit of Bullet Seed, but the remaining hits have full power.

All Tyranitar, actually. Waterfall can't KO 252/0 Tyranitar without the rain boost, so Low Kick is probably worth it for that.

Beat Up is the user's base attack divided by 10, plus 5. Berries only work on the first hit, I believe.

Ok, so when caculating weaville's beat up power it'd be this?

120/10=12
12+5=17
17*.5 (for stab)=25.5
25.5*4 (for number of teammates)=102(?)

EDIT: So wait Everyone's bp gets caculated, not just weaville. Now i'm lost )=

Weavile's first hit would be 17 base power plus the 50% STAB bonus. Now calculate each of the other pokemon not fainted and add the 50% STAB bonus to each to get the final result.

This may be a bit of a silly question, but is it strategically beneficial to nickname your Pokémon in a VGC tournament because it may make your opponent more likely to accidentally select the wrong one as their attack target?

The slots for attacking are the same way the Pokemon are aligned on the field, i.e.

Field:
Whimsicott named Jim/Scrafty named Joe

Attacking screen:
Jim Joe

It would take inattentiveness on the opponent's part, and even then I don't think it would be beneficial.

That's not to say you shouldn't nickname your Pokemon, I do it to honor people, i.e. moofians and Jibaku's many alts :P
