Just a quick question, but what are the chances of Taunt being played? Is it mostly used with a lead, or something else to bring up later?

If pokemon in a team is going to have Taunt, that pokemon will most likely be leading. However, that pokemon can very well switch out and come back in to taunt later in the game.

@Werecario: That strategy will probably work to some extent, but just recall that Protect is by far the most common move used in Double, so, don't expect that strategy to deal a lot of damage all the time. The strategy is also ruined by Follow Me + Trick Room. Also, pokemon with decent defense (there are quite a few common ones in this metagame) will not take that much damage from fake out or fling. If I'm not mistaken, it's razor fang that flinches, not razor claw, and both razor fang and king's rock are only 30 base power flings (45 for Technician), which isn't going to do much damage.

Then you possibly have that one ability that prevents flinching, um Inner Focus, right?

Oh and thanks. Cause I'm planning on a Trick Room team, but the only problem is that I Dialgas that I have don't have right natures, so I wouldn't know, so I'm trying to improve the team.

Ok so I have a question about weather. With the lead, the one who comes out last keeps their weather on. How does it work in this case:

Red's Metagross uses Explosion
Red's Metagross faints
Blue's Lugia faints

Red sends out Abomasnow
Blue sends out Kyogre

Kyogre is faster, but Red's Metagross died before Blue's Lugia did. Does it Hail or does it Rain?

I think it is acutally the other way around, and either way it doesn't matter becuase it isn't who comes out first, but rather the lower speed. So the abomasnow would always get hail up if they are sent out at the same time (when i say same time i mean both trainers are selecting which pokemon to send out at the same time).

I have another question, does encore go through substitute?

Yes.

Quick question, is it advisable to run some sort of weather or trick room team? Or just bring counters for those in a well rounded team?

I'm pretty sure you will see a lot of Weather and Trick Room teams. It's just opinion, if you want to join them, or try and counter them. You could try and pull off a counter for both of them. But for me, I'm trying to go along with the crowd and try out one of the Weather or Trick Room teams. If you can make a counter for both, and then other random stuff along the way, I'm pretty sure you'll do fine.

Has anyone actually read the 2010 VGC Regional Operation PDF?

It describes preliminary rounds followed by reseeding into elimination rounds for the players who qualify in the prelims. Sounds like Swiss format right?

The first paragraph though says:

The Regional Championships is a Single Elimination event. Each match will consist of a single game and will result in the winner advancing to the next round and the loser being removed from the tournament.

And then there's this little nugget:

If a tie occurs during the Preliminary rounds, both players will be considered the loser of that game and will be eliminated from the event. If a tie occurs during the Elimination rounds, a single game will be played to determine the winner of that match, using the Sudden Death rules outlined below.

Now I'm sure ties are going to be quite uncommon, but it doesn't make sense to eliminate both players in the event of a tie in prelims, right? Probably just their way of expediting the tournament lol.

Were the regulations of previous tourneys this poorly worded?

Woah, those Sudden Death rules, whilst admittedly very unlikely to come up, could have some interesting strategic implications. As soon as a turn ends with one player having more surviving Pokémon than the other, that player wins? Might be worth considering how your team would fare in such a situation.

Seems like the Prelim versus Elim rounds are just to even out the numbers. Say 200 people enter; then the Elimination round could be set at 32 entrants. 200 goes to 100 in R1, then to 50, then to 25; those 25 people advance to the Elmination rounds, and 7 of them get byes. Then you get 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 winner.

Last year how they did it, if no one had a person to battle, they would choose the last guy that lost, and give him/her another chance, by letting him/her battle the person that has no one to battle. So the way they are doing this, I don't like all too much.

And anyone hate the age groupings?

Yeah. When I lose to a 14-year old in the first round, I might cry.

Seriously, though, I imagine if you look at the distribution of players' ages, you see a "long tail" above, say, 15--there probably just aren't enough older players out there to justify an 18+ bracket.

I vote for a Geriatric division! Ages 25+ That's where I'd fall in; I'll be 27 come VGC. I guess that's the other reason I fall ore into the "Casual" player crowd. I don't have TIME to be competitive...

Writing novels and caring for 3 children doesn't leave a whole lot of time to create and train an excessively competitive team.

ugh, you have a point, I just don't want to face all the adults that are super good at this. I rather face people around my age of 13-18. I'm not all too good at this stuff, and I'll just get bombed the first round against some body or sorts. meh, I need to get better at this...

So tell me if this isn't in the right section.... but i'm looking for help on creating a supporting cresselia. I've seen a lot of them with helping hand, protect, toxic and stuff and i want to try one out ^_^

Can anyone help me with creating one including nature/ev's/moveset?

Last year at the VGC I actually had a tied match and both my opponent and I were kicked out, not sure about the Swiss rounds thing though.

I have my own question though, is there any damage calculator that has the option to lower the power of moves in a double battle, say like Earthquake? Smogon's Damage Calc doesn't have this option and I'm not entirely sure what I would change to get an actual calc for a move like EQ in a double battle.

Actually, Smogon's damage calc does have an option for double battle calculations. Check the box "Two vs. Two" on both the attacker and defender, found under the "Options" tab for each pokemon.
