Why would you need voice chat? I mean it isn't that hard to coordinate building projects with the normal chat; if you want to be able to view more of the chat history you can always use the improved chat mod.

Looking forward to be playing on a non-temp map!

Voice chat is indeed fun. Especially player reactions to Creepers. I'm looking at you, Sal...

Skype is likely the easiest way to do this. It's free, and I've never had issues with it.

only problem with skype is that it is a huge memory hog

working on my own version of spawn atm

i'm incorporating what i have liked from previous attempts whilst staying true to forks's original (and great imo) vision with what i had in mind when we started talking about spawn and upon seeing his plan

will post screens soon, watch this space

Am I really gonna have to be that guy.

That guy who points out things everyone is thinking but no one wants to say.

Am I really gonna have to be the guy to say that my using voice chat is made or broken by whether or not asdf is using it?

I think Skype and or Steam chat and or whatever you want to use is the best thing. You would talk to the people you are friends with/are doing things with. I'd rather not have to listen to a group of other people talking about how to build something while I am trying to explore the Nether or something with someone.

btw, Skype sucks and I hate it.

Personally I never got the allure of talking to other people via internet, even in WoW raids I only begrudgingly get on since I'm forced to in order to hear crucial info needed for bosses and to coordinate.

xaq is right guys just voicechat if you wanna with people you wanna do it with and if not......... don't!!

anyway, spent a little time working on spawn as promised

obv buildings and things haven't been built and i haven't decorated it but i just wanted to demonstrate how simple and clean it is with this design and these colours and materials, and how well it reflects the original plan

the important thing to note about this version of spawn is that it is much larger than any previous iterations which frankly, though pretty, were far too small for us to use

i am planning on dumping some buffalo wings style housing up top on the platforms you can see me beginning to develop, and rest assured there is plenty of room under the arches for all sorts of basic services

i also started digging out a beach to demonstrate how the docks will be -- i liked the idea of the back end of spawn (the most protected end) being open to the sea so we can all go chill at the docks

whilst i want to keep spawn plaza (the centre) open mostly, i will be adding benches and market town style stalls et al to make it look pretty and lived in

Too much gray for my tastes...ever consider brick? Or at least something to break it up a bit, granted there's not a super whole lot of options, but something like a glass-covered walkway (so you can look up and light comes in) would be more attractive I'd think than being in a dark torch-lit walkway that surrounds the park.

az cover up your creeper holes >:(

I really like the design, it's nice and simple. Only thing is all the grey from the slabs, although it probably isn't too apparent from ground level. What are they for anyways, the buildings and farms?

brick is honestly one of the ugliest blocks

when you're within the walls it doesn't look too grey at all, and it is a hell of a lot less grey than previous designs!

the green of the foliage and the water break up the monotony of an all grey colour scheme (which is always a challenge, because most of the good looking blocks are grey), and it only really looks like there's so much grey because the top layer of the walk way hasn't been filled with more colourful buildings utilising nice complements like logs and wool. this is a wip, i'll post more screens and you'll see what i mean

also you haven't seen how the walkway looks underneath surrounding the park, so don't be so hasty to judge! in day it gets plenty of light and there will be buildings beneath that will be cozily lit, so that won't be an issue. the walkways won't be made of dirt

nanoswine you're right, the platforms are buildings etc. it is basically as forks first planned in the img i posted. if you check that you it is pretty self-explanatory

I dunno, I've found myself liking brick over basic grey block these days...sandstone is nice too, but I guess I just have odd tastes.

sandstone really brightens up the spawn in my version when you're at ground level because it is the main paving

frankly i do not like bricks at all unless they are for fireplaces or w/e

i will post more screens, have faith!!

i really think i can make us a nice spawn

az that is looking amazing. The grey will look fine when buildings etc. are put in and there can always be decoration along the path
Keep it up!

well i'm gonna make us a steam group so we can voice chat if we want and yes von it would be allot of beds beds beds but people should keep others in mind and not spam or swear if they are told not to. and the voice chat was basically for people doing building groups and mining ect. and who would like to join me in 1.0.0 to make a house im using ALOT of redstone and pistons and it will take a long time but it will be awsome and nearly everything will be redstony EDIT: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/smogcraft put that inot steam

more screens before bed

finished flooring the top! gives you an impression of just how big spawn will be -- bear in mind we're going out again from this for residential areas etc

also ignore the ravine on theright lol i wanted to make a beach and set up a pretty sweet tnt chain reaction...

a ground level screen to show people it isn't just all grey!!

as you can see the grey is a back drop and it is punctuated by all this other colour. this will be filled in tomorrow with more exciting stuff so don't worry that the sandstone will be too bland either!! also i had a koffing made of gold built above the fountain a little like lsb's gold cross but...

these water features are kind of the best

these will be cozy at night :)

wide angle to demonstrate just how much room we have underneath!!

again this is empty now but i envision it as a cool kinda bazaar where you can walk through and all the various buildings are built in underneath. i'll make it colourful and excellent. there is plenty of room for both!

Odd, why's a Zombie and Spider in there, it looks well lit enough?

Nice explosion, and it definitely looks better from the ground than in the air, nice job. The waterfalls especially are a nice touch.

it is, but it was on creative so i wasn't placing torches and zipped by once i was done with them, so all the mobs were just standing by at the time

ty, glad to have changed your mind!!

Relooking through the screen shots, I did have one random ideal though...instead of rows of torches, maybe throw up a glowstone block in the middle of the ceiling spaced out, kinda like an overhead light?

Yeah, but it would look better if the glowstone was recessed into the ceiling.

Yeah that's what I meant to suggest, having it in the ceiling as the ceiling looked to be more than 1 block thick, so it shouldn't show above as well.

Looks great man, keep it up!

In that last screen, the grass looks kind of weird to me because it's inside. Maybe wooden planks for the floor instead? Also how would sandstone slabs look for the path, I think it would be nice with them sort of indented.

like i've said a few times, there'll be other things inside. don't worry about that for now

i'll experiment with glowstone maybe later
