i made it but lost in the second round. i never got around to actually raising a team so i spent the ride to Nashville this morning sorting through my PC boxes in Diamond and Platinum looking for anything around level 50, and ended up with a shit team with nothing even EV trained.

Lost to IPL round one, guess it makes me feel better to know he won (screw single elimination)

I made some poor plays though, i hope i do better next year.
 
This post comes courtesy of Steve (FC: 4039 3488 6767) and Matt (4941 2919 9972) from Florida, who let us crash in their hotel room even if they drove here and didn't get to compete. (Well, IPL and I had to team up and beat them as part of the bet, but still).

Anyway, I lost to IPL, and it was a really close match. It was a bit more difficult for me beforehand because he saw my team in Phoenix, so I had to improvise with the Pokemon I had and give him a strategy (or lack thereof) he didn't expect. Long story short: My Metagross Tricked a Choice Scarf onto his Uxie, trapping it into Psychic, which most of my team resists. At some point I realized I need to get that Choice Scarf back so Metagross could outspeed his other Pokemon and Explode, so I Tricked it back. What I was not expecting was that Metagross would be locked into Trick, and that sealed my fate.

Full warstory will come after we get back to AZ.

Also, I actually lost first round in Phoenix, using the exact same team.
 
aww =/ You probably got used to shoddy cause I remember hearing something about a glitch with trick and that you would not get locked into trick if you were using a choice item. Congrats to you both!
 
What I don't understand is why didn't you just go ahead and explode? Why all the elaborate setup with getting the scarf back?
 
Congrats Omega and IPL for winning 1st and 2nd place! Glad to see you got in!

Anyway, Chakka and I have been sitting in the lobby of TAD's hotel for the last 15 minutes and he won't return our calls anymore, even after I told him that I would buy him McDonald's. I guess we'll see him tomorrow if he doesn't answer us soon.

If anyone else in Nashville wants to hang out, Chakka and I are at the Comfort In on Music Valley. He's tuckered out and probably ready for bed but I could care less for sleep tonight so hit me up.

Yeah, I didn't get in either. Eight hours later I'm back home, tired, happy, and with a camera full of great pictures. But there's always next year, right?

btw, are you still doing VGC style double battles? It may be over for the year (for everyone who didn't qualify), but I finally got my team set. My FC is 1505-3173-9612 - I felt like restarting Platinum.
 
Is anyone organizing a road trip/carpool to ST.Louis? This would be the perfect time to do so as its two weeks away!!

Perfect for those who did'nt get in at any qualifier like my self
 
Well I might be going to St. Louis but I'm in Ohio. If you could make your way down here me and my dad could probably drive you if you pitch in.

Oh, you don't need to have won a regional qualifier to play in Nationals? AWESOME! The chance of it happening is pretty low, but I may book a flight for it.

If there's anyone from NY/NJ that's going to Nationals: If you're passing through Northeast Pennsylvania, let me know. It'll probably be a one-way trip for me though. I'm more likely to fly home since I want to catch a 7 PM concert on the 28th - Def Leppard/Cheap Trick/Poison.

i went because i wanted to have some fun battling in a tournament setting. and even though i didn't have a great team i could have won the entire thing with, i still had a blast. isn't that what it's really all about?
