Soothe Bell/massages/poffins/Super Contests, etc. That question REALLY could have gone in the simple questions/answers thread btw.

EDIT: BEFORE I GET YELLED AT FOR MINI-MODDING: I was simply advising our good friend user Haku16 here, not attempting to say that he should be punished etc.
ok, thanks i really didnt know that.

Massages, walking around (Soothe Bell helps there).

That's about it without levelling. You could always go for Frustration :D (though, you're happiness doesn't start at zero).
i was thinking of fustration but i like return more plus how much damage will it do if i give it max hate?

Max hate is also more expensive. Bitter medicine is usually cheaper than the alternative, but it's not that cheap when you're force feeding your pokemon.

Did the tournament last year have the old Stadium style 'pick 4 from 6', or was it only 4?

You could only have 4 pokemon in a team per match, but you can completely switch the members of the team in between rounds.

i hope we can do it in this tourny since i have so many different teams i bred/ traded for that i can use so i wont be stuck with the same pokemon. also im going with return instead of frustration.

Same here. being stuck with the same team means that friends/team mates could very well watch other peoples matches and tell their friends what their are using.

exactly i dont want to lose cause someone looked around at my pokemon team during the last match and knows wich pokemon to use first to counter me off in the start.

Just a comment to make:
It may be good to prepare several teams, but I doubt scouting will really go too far. I mean, come on. Let's say you're running a Trick Room team. Your next opponent finds out what Pokemon and some of your moves you are using. Just work your way around it. I mean, come on, they put some of the battles on the TV last time. Besides, almost all of the whole tournament is prediction.

Exactly, if you really want to prove how good you are than work around the disadvantage and win. I'm sticking with my team throughout the tourney as well ViperGTS!

But, it probably wouldn't hurt to prepare two teams. I can just see me going in there with two teams and going up against a team that my other team would be good against. I say, just stick with the team you feel the most comfortable with and do your best!

Not sure if anyone knows this quite yet but, is Item Clause in effect for this tourney?
I know it was last year in US Item Clause was on, not sure if it was on for Japan this year however, I tried checking on the Japanese site but I had no luck. I'll edit in if I get the answer.

You won't need to edit, for they had item clause as well in the stops in Japan this year.

well ill start ev training and testing different teams next week and going on until i find the team that i feel most confident with. i might actually stick with Vipers plan and go all the way with the same team. i also will need testing partners. any takers... ?

Edit: any takers please PM me.

Okay figure out what counters your team, and bring a counter to the counter if someone tells about your first team and then bring in the counter to the counter opponents team and BADABING

In JAA my friend was using an explosion team that lead with Dusclops using imprison (to stop protect). In his second round his opponent said "I know exactly what you're doing haha" so instead of using imprison turn one he exploded without it. His opponent double protected turn one =/

Just because someone thinks they understand your team doesn't mean they actually do, and when you scout half the time you just wind up defeating yourself. If you're confident in your strategy don't change it unless you're obviously not going to win otherwise.

lol you aren't going to end up "defeating yourself" half the time by scouting unless you're pretty bad at the game. If you are a competent player, more information is always better than less information.

You guys are acting like team match-ups don't matter. "If you're a good player, you'll just play around it!". That's not always possible. Consider my team from JAA. Most of the teams I came up against had a 0% chance of beating me (my battles were over in 3-5 turns) because of the team match up. You can't play around "impossible". A good battler will take whatever advantage they can get, not do any of this "I believe in my Pokemon! Aim for the horn!" nonsense. This isn't the anime; the Pokemon you use matter.

Exactly, if you really want to prove how good you are than work around the disadvantage and win.

No, if you really want to prove how good you are, you'll play to win. This means not giving up any advantage, no matter how small.

Obi, I dont mean any disrespect, but I dont think thats fair. I'm not saying it's illegal to see the other persons team before they use it against you. But to be fair, they should look at your team before hand aswell.

Yet no one is going to say, "Hey, I saw your trick room team, so heres my anti-TR team, so you can switch if you want." Basically, they lose what would otherwise be the element of surprize. Which could be a huge factor on some more gimmicky teams. Now I know people will figure out rather fast what you're running based on what your kickers are. But if they were running an unconventional move. A lame eg. is leaf blade/close combat on gallade. You would think twice before bringing on your slowbro.

But on the other hand, Nintendo certainly didn't directly say that you can't look at other peoples teams. Nor did they put you in any situation where it would be hard/unlikely to see them (I heard some where even broadcast on the TV). Yet I'm sure the reason they did that was to show off pokemon not just to give certain players the edge.

So I guess where I stand is; I, personally, would never look at another persons team before hand. But like you said Obi a good player uses everything to his/her advantage. So it would seem to me like the best option would be to creep on other players as often as possible. For his/her game playing style more than anything else, because they to can switch up the team. But also carry several other teams, and switch off between them, while having a unique playing style for each. So that you don't become predictable yourself.

Nice, Obi. A very well made point. In reality, it would be ideal to train a number of substitutes for your team and try to gather as much information as possible about your opponents.

The same thing happened with me in JAA, the first 3 rounds were over with the opponent's moves amounting to a waste of time.

Surfing Pika

I know that you said not to ask about hack checking, but I just wanted to know if its ok to do this. I'm not trying to cheat or anything, but I have a surfing pikachu from battle revolution in my pearl version. The surfing pikachu is not hacked at all, I haven't trained it at all since I got it, its still lv 10, I haven't changed items with the light ball it came with, and I haven't changed its moves at all. The only thing I've used it for is sitting in the box (I was waiting to train it in Platinum), and battling a few people in wireless battles. Basically it's a non hacked pokemon in a game that has had cheats used on it. I won't use any cheats in platinum, so is it ok for me to use my surfing pikachu? Also, can you transfer non hacked items from a hacked game to a non hacked game, and would it still be legit?

I don't see the problem with your Pikachu Masquerade, seeing as its from PBR. I'm not going to comment on your other problem for fear or being infracted.
