How this works
There are 8 teams this year. Each team will have have 6 players and at least 2 subs. The players are bought using the 80k credits that managers receive during the auction. Managers will be allowed to purchase themselves as players for their team at a fixed price of 16k but must assign one assistant manager from their drafted players. This may be done either during the auction or after it. Teams can win their matchup every week by winning 4 of the 6 matches that their players have to play.
The tier lineup this year is as follows:
  1. SS Almost Any Ability
  2. SS Balanced Hackmons
  3. SS Camomons
  4. SS Mix and Mega
  5. SS NFE
  6. SS STABmons
All games will be played on the Pokemon Showdown main server or SmogTours in the most current version of the format corresponding to those listed above. The result between players may be decided in a best-of-one or best-of-three at the discretion of both players involved. If there is no agreement, the result will decided in a Bo1 by default.
Winning a round rewards a team with 2 points, drawing 1 point, and losing zero points. In addition, the manner in which the round has been won will also be recorded i.e. the difference between a team's wins and losses in a specific week's round (referred to as "Win Differential").
Playoffs:
Each team will play one another for seven weeks. Based on the final standings, the top 4 teams will enter a Playoffs Round to determine the teams appearing in the finals.

Tiebreaker
In the event of two teams being tied for a spot in the finals based on points and win differential, or a tie in the final round itself, we will have a tiebreaker round(s).

Tiebreaker Rules: The most played meta from usage stats plus one metagame picked by each manager will give a best-of-three game between the tied teams, ultimately deciding who goes onto finals. The three games must be different formats, i.e. the remaining two games cannot be the same as the most played metagame, and must be from the list above. Since SS Balanced Hackmons is most likely to be chosen by usage, the decision to play Bo3 or Bo1 is still left upto the players' discretion and bo1 remains by default.

Substitutes
Substitutes are to be used in the case of "extenuating circumstances" which are unavoidable, whether on the first day of the week, or the last. Moreover, they should generally not be used with a tactical purpose of creating confusion in an opponent's team. At the same time, players should be relatively well-aware of who all are available to play in the opponent's camp. If last minute substitutes are being frequently used or abused and the hosts find explanations unsatisfactory, the hosts still reserve the right to veto them.

Trades
If teams wish to conduct a trade, both managers (or assistant managers if the manager is not present) MUST PM Ransei and SectoniaServant on the FORUMS to have the trade be official. No trades may occur after the conclusion of week 2. A traded player may only feature in the round after they have been traded.

Scheduling
Scheduling should be done on VM walls, plain and simple:
  • If there is no communication on VM walls and a game goes undone, it will be left to the RNG to decide the winner
  • If there is communication on only one user's behalf, the win will go to them. Feel free to call activity in this thread beforehand
  • If there is a very healthy back and forth regarding potential times and one user is a no-show, a manager may take the opportunity to sub out the no-show competitor; if this is not done, the user that showed up responsibly will be awarded the win.
TL;DR: VM your opponents, schedule your matches, and be reliable. If you're not reliable, let your manager know so they can sub you out ASAP.
Use these VM's to initiate discussion about bo1 or bo3 as well!

Sportsmanship
Exhibitions of unsportsmanlike conduct with regards to Other Metagame Premier League will be met with an infraction at the discretion of the OMPL host/OM mods. This is unlikely to include interactions within a team's private chat unless there is reason found to make an exception. This rule is meant to protect other users from being publicly flamed/bashed/provoked by another competitor for the duration of and following the tournament.
All players must complete their matches by the given deadline. Any incomplete matches by that time will be subject to activity decision (MAKE SURE YOU POST ON YOUR OPPONENT'S VM WALL); otherwise, they will be decided via !pick publicly in the OM Room. All matches should ideally be done on your most notable alt (the one you registered for OMPL with) to avoid confusion and the replay must be saved and posted in this thread. The replays will be archived in a separate thread, and will be used to calculate usage stats.

Substitutions & Lineups
Managers, if you wish to make any substitutions, you must post here tagging both the player you're subbing out, the player you're subbing in, the manager and assistant manager of the opposing team, the substitute's opponent, and myself. This is to assure that everyone is in-the-loop and that the OP is updated accordingly to reflect the new match-up.
Managers, when you send in lineups, please send it in with the tier and Smogon username of each player fully written out for ease of transcription, in exactly the same order as laid out above. I will post instructions about sending the lineup for next week later this week.

a loser's MAMP's OMPL BH Review: Week 7
Calling this a review of "Balanced Hackmons" seems like a stretch because half of the games last week can only be described as... different. But hey, some cool ideas just don't get a chance to pan out. Maybe I should have listened to GL Volkner and quick banned Lightning Rod this week though so we could have saved everyone some trouble and had some fun games to watch lol.

PinkDragonTamer vs GL Volkner
Preview shows us that PDT brought bulky balance, looking like Coat/Scales Reshiram/Zama-C with pivot/utility sets on Goli and Zekrom while Lunala and Mewtwo apply pressure. GL Volkner has opted for what looks like either un-impenetrable stall or cheesy HO.

The game starts out a little slow, but both players stays true to preview with PDT showing Resh, Zek, and Goli all have U-turn and Volk revealing Toxic Orb Imposter and what looks like a SubPass strategy. The first appearance of any kind of action is gone as soon as it arrives, with Shift Gear Diggersby being forced out by an unknown Zama-C. The second hint of action follows the same pattern: Volk's Primarina is seen to be Lightning Rod + Electrify when it absorbs Zekrom's Nuzzle and Quiver Dances to get to +2 but is quickly forced out by what we guess is Prankster Topsy-Turvy on Zama-C. Both players proceed to pivot around while PDT's Goli gets spikes up for free and Volk's sub passers keep passing but without the subs. After four attempts, Volk realizes that PDT's Zekrom can't be nuzzled and kicks it into high gear with Primarina only to whip out Stored Power as the final move of the set. This is where we really see how bad the matchup is for Volk, but also see what could have been if he'd been able to successfully pass a sub to Primarina since I doubt PDT was running Topsy + Haze on Zama-C. The first mon finally faints when PDT brings out Mewtwo to end the lull and hangs on by a dramatic 1% health to get past Volk's Dynamaxed Incineroar (it was an 18.8% to KO but living at 1% always leaves a bad taste). With his main SubPass mon gone, things aren't looking great for Volk and the last nail goes in the coffin (get it? Coffin Dance. get it??) when Volk predicts and double but has Diggersby trapped and KOed by Zama-C.

It would have been pretty cool to see Volk's strategy work here, but this just goes to show how hard it can be to pull off strategies like this in such an unpredictable metagame.

MAMP vs aesf
From team preview, we can see that both sides have brought balanced offense but that aesf has a slight edge with the combination of Zacian-C and Mewtwo having potential to wear down MAMP's defensive core of Umbreon, Eternatus, and Zacian.

aesf starts off the game by setting spikes with PrimSea Zacian only to be paralyzed by MAMP's PH Umbreon and have them spun away a few turns later. MAMP brings Scarf Sword Solgaleo, which we saw last week, and it looks like its success will come down to some 50/50s with numerous resists to its STABs on the opposing team. Not much happens over the next several turns but we see MAMP has brought another cool phazing Unova Dragon but this time its PH Zekrom with Spikes, Wisp, and Dragon Tail while aesf's PH Zekrom looks more offensive sporting Shift Gear and Grav Apple to chip away at unsuspecting Seismitoad. MAMP gets in a couple good Dragon Tails to land some nice chip on Zekrom and Mewtwo, forcing aesf to get aggressive and reveal Specs Photon Geyser from Mewtwo, which severely damaged MAMP's Zekrom in the process. Then, staying true to their recent building strategy, MAMP brings out a third PH mon which is an interesting set in Zacian with Taunt and Snap Trap. This is cool because Snap Trap is a Sand Tomb/Fire Spin clone but without the shaky accuracy, but this set doesn't match up well against Prankster Entrainment Ferrothorn so it doesn't get a chance to shine (RIP Octolock, am I right?). Still, things are looking pretty even at this point, if not a little in MAMP's favor, until aesf reveals Earthquake on Zacian-C and it doesn't look like MAMP has a great answer for it. Zacian-C picks up two KOes while also forcing in MAMP's Solgaleo in attempts to RK it, only to have it chipped by hazards in the process. In the end, aesf doubles into Zekrom to face Umbreon because MAMP's team is pretty worn down and Umbreon can't hope to stop Zekrom's setup attempts. In desperation, and with a little head start from Rapid Spin, MAMP opts to Dynamax Umbreon to break past a Zekrom at pretty low health but is unable to do significant damage due to its non-existent offensive presence.

I liked MAMP's team a lot and thought it had some neat tech, but I think this game really highlights how much of an impact Zacian-C has on the meta. A lot of people think Zacian-C is falling off, but you could see from preview that even just dual STAB Zacian-C could have put in work against MAMP's team. You can build with cool ideas all day long, but when it comes down to it you're going to need at least two potential answers to Zacian-C on your team and you still might have trouble facing it.

Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) vs SuperSkylake
At team preview, we see SL42 found a loophole to the Forme Clause and is sporting both Gastrodon and Seismitoad. A reasonable person would guess one or both are Fur Coat with the other being Poison Heal, but you never know with Gurp. Skylake looks to have brought Specs/Band balance that could have some trouble getting things done with a couple immunities and a Zacian-C on the other side.

Early on, we see SL42 has a fairly standard PH Snorlax and that Gastrodon definitely isn't Fur Coat after taking decent damage from an unboosted Body Press. Both sides switch around for several turns, surprisingly without using a single pivot move, and Skylake ends up in a pretty nice situation with his Sword Zamazenta up against Eternatus. Skylake misplays here though, and goes directly for Photon Geyser even though the max roll is 97.5%. Eternatus gets up Toxic Spikes, which is a weird choice in today's BH, and lives to see another turn as it switches out. Skylake anticipates the switch and brings out Zama-C, and Gurp switches to Lunala to tank a potential second Photon. Here we see a pretty neat Lunala set, rocking Mold Breaker with Glare and Strength Sap. I like how this set gets around defensive guys, especially Scales Zama-C, that hope to tank its hits and cripple it with Spectral or Knock Off. In this case, Skylake goes for Spectral and gets paralyzed and sapped all according to plan but then SL42 makes a really risky play and does a hard switch to Eternatus who is at 5% health. Lucky for him, Skylake didn't fish for a crit or chip on Lunala with another Spectral Thief and spins on the incoming Eternatus who tanks it thanks to FC and heals up to full health. This is important because SL42 took a big gamble bringing in Eternatus but it paid off and basically reset the game and took away all of Skylake's momentum. Things get rougher for Skylake from here, as Gastrodon ends up being Magic Bounce, an ill-timed Poison Fang reveals his Zacian's set, and he is forced to hard switch his Imposter into an unknown Zacian-C set. At least he gets lucky and doesn't catch a Spore, or even a V-create on a predicted switch, but rather tanks a Play Rough. Seismitoad is soon revealed to also not be FC but Prankster (and holding a balloon??) and momentum stays with SL42 as both players dance around for a bit. Things start looking even more grim for Skylake when Toad reveals Court Change, Lunala reveals Spikes, and its clear that Spin Zama-C is Skylake's only hazard control. Skylake at least catches a small break by eliminating Zacian-C with a Fur Coat Lunala, but at the expense of using his Dynamax and for only one turn at that. From here to the end it's all downhill, as Skylake can't remove hazards and he accidentally sends out the wrong Zamazenta, who dies as a result.

I think this could have been a much closer match if Skylake had been a little more patient and not played all his cards at the first opportunity he got. It seems that SL42 had a bit of a matchup advantage, but I found it interesting that while his neat Lunala set was effective at spinblocking at stalling Zama-C, it still had to rely on a couple full paras to get rid of it before being stalled out of Hexes itself.

sugarhigh vs jasprose
At preview, it looks like sugarhigh brought Psychic spam offense and that jasprose brought para spam Pikachu but with a weird supporting cast of Marshadow and Keldeo. With the main Psychic resists on jasprose's team being Excadrill and transformed Pikachu, things aren't looking too good at preview for jasp.

Things get going fast, with Solgaleo setting terrain and a hard switch into Mewtwo catches a Nuzzle from Reshiram. Unable to switch anything in, jasprose has to tank a Photon Geyser for 91% to pivot out with Teleport in hopes of getting some momentum. He goes right into Pika, which isn't a bad play, but makes a mistake by going for Photon rather than Volt Switching into Resh to sack it and bring Pika back in. Surprisingly, even with Light Ball Adaptability and Terrain Boost, 85% was the max roll and meant sugarhigh was even running a -SpD nature. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the end of the match because sugarhigh sends in a BellyBurden Dusk Mane that jasp simply doesn't have an answer for and it cleans up for the win.

Jasp was trying to out-cheese sugarhigh but this matchup was extremely lopsided, which was definitely a bummer. I definitely wish the Klink's best cheerleader would have had a more fun outing in their only game this OMPL.

Metagame Observations
Sometimes cheese stinks. This is both a pun about fancy cheese and a fact about BH playstyles. It is really hard to pull off certain strategies, no matter how much you've tested them, and the results can either be amazing or extremely disappointing. We saw two of the latter this week, with both attempts of Electrify immunity gimmicks falling flat.
Other than that, things are looking about as expected with bulky balanced offense being the most used and probably most reliable playstyle available.

Predicts for Playoffs
highlighter vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request)
PinkDragonTamer vs MAMP

It is really hard to beat someone twice, and I think that both HL and PDT are going to get revenge on their losses earlier this season in these rematches. I look forward to watching both of these, as everyone has been bringing their best this tour. Don't forget to schedule bo3's though because ultimately this is for our entertainment rather than a virtual trophy. Good luck!

I want to report a huge error made in this specific matchup:

SS NFE: King Leo V vs Thimo

This should have been King Leo V vs Thimo ^ uhuhuhu ^ marjane ^ SBPC ^ Crystalities ^ Tack ^ many more i may not know of yet.

And now, predicts for all the matchups excluding my team:

The Head Honchkrows (Jrdn, aesf) - [2][4] - The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)

SS Almost Any Ability: aesf (40) vs Racool (60) - aesf is not someone who you can ignore but racool is undefeated and also cute.
SS Balanced Hackmons: highlighter(40) vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) (60) -Undefeated.
SS Camomons: Jrdn (65) vs Mark K(35) - Jrdn is way too op to predict against.
SS Mix and Mega: Redflix (49) vs Skysolo (51) - This to me seems to be the deciding matchup. Goo Skysolo.
SS NFE: frisoeva (55) vs Ho3nConfirm3d (45) - Cannot predict against 7-0, and ho3n needs to put more time and prep to compete here.
SS STABmons: Alternatif (40) vs Plas (60) - Alternatif is cute but Plas the puppy is a big goat.

WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS SERIES HAVE 5 UNDEFEATED PLAYERS BUT NO ONE FACING EACH OTHER :psyangry:.

LET'S GO SPINDAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE GOT THIS.

:Honchkrow: The Head Honchkrows (Jrdn, aesf) - [2][3] - :Tyrantrum: The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)
SS Almost Any Ability: aesf vs Racool - Racool been doing good af this tour while being undefeated, sadly aesf is 3-4. although aesf could win his record doesn't mark his skill.
SS Balanced Hackmons: highlighter vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) - bit bias but sl42 is undefeated and the best bh player in this tour imo. highlighter still is a great player and could pull off winning sl42 since it is hard winning vs the same player twice.
SS Camomons: Jrdn vs Mark K - i love mark but jrdn is the goat and this tour hasn't been mark's best.
SS Mix and Mega: Redflix vs Skysolo - both are super good this will be a close game but I'm rooting for solo to win.
SS NFE: frisoeva vs Ho3nConfirm3d - Highlight match!! Friso came back for ompl and has been crushing it and this hasn't really been hoen's best tour for nfe. I wouldn't be surprised if hoen won though.
SS STABmons: Alternatif vs Plas - plas goat goat.

stresh's team 6-0s and then pdt vs sl42 happens in finals

I feel this is too small of an announcement to make into the administrative decisions thread but all 3 Galarian Starters now have their hidden abilities released through Pokemon Home and are accessible to use in Pokemon Showdown formats.

Since I've heard we're lacking engagement and prediction posts, here's a detailed in-depth guide on how to post predicts of the series between The Temper Tyrantrums and The Hotshot Honchkrows. Let's get into it!

Step 1: Predict every undefeated player to win. This is a very important step, if you get this wrong you may notice a considerable drop in reactions on your post. These players are not only some of the best in their metas, they're also some of the most popular and like-friendly users, there is no downside to this unless your purpose is looking dumb for the sake of being contrary (at the risk of losing not only reactions, but even get some anger ones too if you're not careful with what you say, so maybe don't say anything in this scenario). I'll be leaving the list of those players at the end of this post.

Step 2: Choose between Skysolo and Redflix. This is where supposedly you have the most freedom, as you're actually presented with a choice and both are justifiable enough to not raise any suspicion to your post and get the braindead like click. The catch to get this step right and maximize your reaction score gains is to realize that it doesn't actually matter who you pick here, so don't read too much into it, pick the one who's given you the most likes in your post history and write a simple one-liner as to how they'll pull off this super close, series-deciding, world ending match.

Step 3: ??? (This is code for "post it in the top 10 dm convos and your discord servers of choice, keep in mind not to post on a public or highly populated server as you might be seen as a like-whore and get some of the fearsome, horrible, terrifying, cruel anger reactions").

Step 4: Profit. This is when you F5 repeatedly on the post link you already have on your clipboard and watch your reactions grow to get your good dose of that dopamine high and claim those sweet, adorable, delicious reaction points.

And that's it!! You've enriched the thread with your highly opinionated post and can now rest easy and reduce the ammount of refreshing from every 5 seconds to about once every 5 minutes with discord talk in the middle to popularize your post.

I'll now tag the interested parties:

And here's the list of the undefeated players, already bolded for convenience:
Racool
Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request)
Jrdn
frisoeva

Plas

Mark K Would you recommend predicting Redflix over Skysolo? That way we get a nice [3][3] split, and both teams may think they're equally favored so they're equally likely to like this post.
Great suggestion! Appeasing to both teams and not picking a clear winner is a strategy you can only learn from the professionals. Just keep in mind bolding skysolo may bring more likes if you share your post within the appropriate communities and discords! Thank you GL Volkner, you keep surprising me with your superb, immense, vast knowledge of this subject!

Happy posting!

Hey all, Drampa back again with my ELO-based predicts for this week. I'm ignoring the matches that have already happened for at least my initial predicts.

The Head Honchkrows (Jrdn, aesf) - [33.3][37.7][29.0] - The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)
SS Almost Any Ability: (27) aesf vs Racool (73)
SS Balanced Hackmons: (36) highlighter vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) (64)
SS Camomons: (90) Jrdn vs Mark K (10)
SS Mix and Mega: (47) Redflix vs Skysolo (53)
SS NFE: (85) frisoeva vs Ho3nConfirm3d (15)
SS STABmons: (23) Alternatif vs Plas (77)

I'd predict the tiebreaker but it's a bit early for that :p

The Spinda Wheels (xavgb, Jordy) - [49.2][31.4][19.4] - The Crown Jewel Corviknights (SBPC, Andyboy)
SS Almost Any Ability: (73) xavgb vs Thinkerino (27)
SS Balanced Hackmons: (82) PinkDragonTamer vs MAMP (18)
SS Camomons: (68) Havens vs MetaRiolu7 (32)
SS Mix and Mega: (45) Jordy vs Andyboy (55)
SS NFE: (47) King Leo V vs Thimo (53)
SS STABmons: (31) vivalospride vs Terracotta (69)

Thimo v King Leo V is the highlight match of the week, don't miss it... what do you mean it already happened???

Note that so far my predictions are 0 for 2, but that they were both, in theory, very close games.

Odds updated with actual results:
The Head Honchkrows (Jrdn, aesf) - [100][0][0] - The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)
The Spinda Wheels (xavgb, Jordy) - [0][82][18] - The Crown Jewel Corviknights (SBPC, Andyboy)

Congrats Honchkrows on clinching finals!
