i almost never go ho-oh (even more here) or groudon with palkia.
yeah but i've also been told by some of the japanese guys that protect is not always needed on all your poke and some are saying with palkia's power, esp under rain, he should be an all-out attacker. I am most definitely making a rain dance team so it shouldn't be an issue there for palkia but yeah I am still deciding for the last slot of palkia's moveset.

A bit irked that I wasn't even able to get in to the area where they were playing to watch some of the battles, or even snag an eevee (though I did try to from outside the room it was out of range...).

I don't know about the Eevee, but the past VGC events have all been given out using a special GBA cart rather than a wireless signal. This restricts them to one per entrant, making them rarer (if it wasn't for cloning).

Was fairly hyped up and looking forward t VGC 2010, just getting into competitive pokemon so I didn't expect to get far but to at least get a feel to truly prepare for next year. I had no clue just how short it would become.

Asked whether my friends and I could register for another tournament since we had missed this one. Alas... no. So my hopes are shot down for entering this year. But I will be able to prep for next year's since I will still be in Japan then.

Last year there were some repechage tournaments in Japan. Aren´t they this year?

Japan...

Ah yes, TR Dialga.
Dialga @ Shuca (there are others but I really do like this berry)
Nature: Quiet
IVs: 31/31/31/31/31/0 Spe
EVs: 252HP/252spA/6Def or spDef (but I would say spDef as there are a lot more special attackers in the meta)
- TR
- Dragon pulse/Draco meteor
- Protect/Thunder
- Flamethrower/Fire blast

TR is an obvious choice, especially for a pokemon that is considered to be one of the best TR setup pokemon. The choice between DP and DM is a choice between raw power and consistency, though I tend to lean towards dragon pulse more as this meta's fast-paced gameplay won't allow for much switching. Protect is an all-around fantastic choice for pretty much any pokemon but thunder is to abuse drizzle to hit things such as Kyogre while the last slot's move is to abuse groudon's ability. Well, that was my opinion lol.

Actually, Dialga can't be quint-flawless with 0 Speed. If you're going to use a TR Dialga, you need to lower the Attack stat. You can go with 1 IV in Attack though, since you won't need it. Your EV spread looks good though.

Anyway - I've been thinking about using a TR+Rain team. I had one test battle against mattj and it looked promising, but I'm going to do more testing.

That team's got a similar Quiet Dialga - the moves on it are Thunder/Trick Room/Protect/Aura Sphere (for other Dialga), with Lum as a held item. I'm not too terribly worried about not having Dialga's Dragon STAB - with Lead Metagross as a partner, there's not much that survives a second turn explosion (if it catches them by surprise.)

My backups are Kyogre and Azumarill - the dragons I'd worry about (Kingdra/Palkia) are neutral to Ice Beam/Thunder, and if I get Trick Room up (which isn't hard), Dialga/Kyogre/Azumarill would be more than capable of sweeping my opponent's leftover Pokemon.

Yeah i think the Dialga i'm going to RNG was like 8 Atk for TR, trying to decide on DP or DM at moment. I usually use a Hariyama with it as leads but finding follow me user + dark void smeargle can be annoying so i generally use lum on dialga rather than a resist berry

Is the 2v2 on multi target moves a damage reduction or power reduction? Was just thinking, Hitmontop is a Technician, can learn Rock Slide (only one that can), and if its a Power reduction then Rock Slide drops from 75 power to 56 power, which is then boosted to 84 from Technician. Atleast in theory :)

Not sure if it would be useable at all thou

I don't think your idea of rock slide works. I'm pretty sure its a damage reduction.

Nah, at least for Worlds the Weavile was given out over local wireless.

@drcossack- did you think about shedinja. I sense a Shedinja could sweep you.

Yes, actually. Even though it's nerfed by Rain, Dialga's got Fire Blast. I am, however, probably going to replace it with Flamethrower since I don't want to be fucked by a miss.

At least this time around we can enter Pokemon Over Lv. 50 and Auto level it.
I was afraid they would ban all Ubers again....
Still, At least they banned the Soul Dew lol People would use Latiai Left and Right alongside Garchomp

Should Sunny Day teams really be of paramount consideration when applying movesets? There's potential, but compared to Rain, TR, and Goodstuffs... What do you think?

Don't leave your team weak to them, but yes, rain, TR, and goodstuffs have been the predominant teams in the Japanese regionals so far.

I've come up with a pretty amazing team idea. It's unlike anything I've seen so far, but uses a lot of tricks from Japan that I've been seeing.

Depending on how quickly I can develop it, could be appearing in a live tournament some time soon...

What kind of palkia is best for doubles? Mixed, special, or physical? Im thinking mixed, but then again, well im not really sure.... haha

special I guess but it's sometimes nice to have protect (actually it's never bad to actually have protect).

Palkia@lustrous orb
Timid nature
252spA/252spe/6atk
~spacial rend
~surf/hydro pump (i prefer to have surf with the "appropriate" teammates)
~thunder/fire blast
~protect/aqua tail/fire blast

personally, I really think protect is the best option for the last slot.

Does anybody know anything more about the limit to 2 ubers? Like is it a limit to only 2 per sheet or is it just 2 per battle?

Also, I've seen a lot of Mewtwo/Abomasnow leads. They seem to help win a lot of battles too.

2 per team.
Mewtwo lead is great as it has the power and can also be used sort of as a fast taunter.
Abomasnow lead is actually awesome as it can often put a stop to the every so popular Kyogres, which are often times the lead.

@lordkira

2 per team
Are you sure about that? and could you tell me how do you know it? i suppose that i won't carry more than 2 ubers per sheet (i even don't know if i'll carry Ubers or not) but it's interesting to know it because you opponents can switch ubers between battles... And before you tell me, i know that the matches are by single elimination, but yeah, you can look around to watch some battles and collect some info ;)

it was said so somewhere in the official rules
sorry i can't really find it but yeah
as for the ubers, i think you should try to maximize your chance of winning by using the "UBERs". You should be, especially, prepared against Rain teams and TR teams, oh and Sunny Day teams. :D

I think that Nintendo don't know how to make competitive rules...
But as they are the owners of this game, they are in right for do it as they want... :/

Did you really have to come here and say that? If you've got nothing constructive to add to this thread, keep those thoughts to yourself next time.
