Scrafty

Eh, choice HJK seems pretty risky, as once a ghost comes out you're forced to drop all your boosts or lose half your HP, not to mention lots of other scarfers will mess him up. I still think the DD set takes better advantage of Moxie (seriously guys Earthquake Spiral doesn't even make any damn sense) seeing as you don't have to worry about ghosts and you get the same speed--not like Scrafty's hurting for opportunities to switch in with Ttar being everywhere. Not to say it can't or doesn't work but I think I'd rather stick with DD or BU.

Yeah I agree it is pretty gimmicky and in most cases outclassed by DD. I was mostly just striving for some originality and surprise value. It has the advantage of not requiring a setup turn (btw I'd be more careful with TTar, don't want to eat a Superpower ;). Though, you overestimate the risk of choiced fighting moves in the 5th gen meta. That's where team preview comes in. Either predict with Crunch or wait until late game when you have eliminated any ghosts. Eh

Here's what I was thinking:

Scrafty@ Lum Berry
Ability: Moxie
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)
64 Attack, 252 Speed, 192 Defense
-Dragon Dance/Bulk Up
-Rest
-Crunch
-Hi Jump Kick/Drain Punch

The idea is to soak up attacks while you set up as much as possible, maybe only once, then rest up, heal from the berry, get another turn of boost and completely sweep. This set is similar the DD/Rest/Waterfall/Outrage set on Kingdra and works wonders late game. I would definitely recommend drain punch if you use bulk up because of the HP gain while not being worried about getting outsped with the defensive boost. These EV's work well but they probably aren't perfect so please help haha!

If you're using Bulk Up, then Careful is the best nature to go because your Defense will be boosted by Bulk Up already. The Speed EVs can go into HP instead (unless you're using Dragon Dance). Shed Skin is also worth considering if you want to have a shot at passively curing status.

Shed Skin has been unreliable IMO but it is a very valid option. Also if Bulk Up is your choice then payback is probably the best option.

I've been reading a lot of threads without saying much (or anything usually), but I have to say that this thread is hilariously full of arguments that all come down to preference. "Intimidate vs. Shed Skin vs. Moxie," "HJK vs. Drain Punch," and "BU vs. DD" is all about what you want him to do, not what he's best at doing, ultimately. A lot of these arguments are talking about him as if he's a lone fighter against 6 'mons. But I'm glad the pointless arguing as cleared up at this point.

Going back to the topic though, I definitely see this guy being a bit more awesome than I initially thought. I personally like the BU set, but I definitely am going to see what the DD set can do when I get around to trying it out. I first thought that the DD set would be what I'd be running, but a lot of the analysis done here and theorymongering made me figure that my play-style is more suited for the BU set.

Hmm. As for sets and such, I don't really have much to contribute, I suppose. I guess I'm a little surprised that Stone Edge isn't shown as an option for any of the DD sets, but I guess that Ice Punch as a third attack has better coverage for the more immanent threats.

I think the main reason Ice Punch is preferred is just because it lets him sweep through defensive Gliscor, who would otherwise be a hard stop to him because of its resistance to HJK and avoiding a 3hko from even Adamant +1 LO Crunch.

I don't see any reason why you can't use a DD set on the same team as another more effective DD user. Even if there are other pokemon who do the DD thing better, It's not like he shares the same type and weaknesses as Haxxorz...sorry, Haxorus or Gyarados.

Just imagine. Your opponent finally gets done dealing with your primary DD sweeper only for you to then slap down DD Scrafty who is only slightly less threatening all and all.

That's it, I'm making a team entirely of DD users.

DD zuri is one of the best DD'er ive ever used actualy. IMHO it clearly stand its own in term of DD sweep compared to likes of gyara and firends

Even though Scrafty is a bit slow to DD effectively, it has the bulk to take a hit and set up 1 or 2 of them (some Pokemon might still outspeed it after +1 or +2.

My set:

Scrafty@lum berry
Shed Skin
Careful
252 HP/252 SpDef/6 Att

-Rest
-Amnesia
-Toxic
-Dragon Tail

This set may seem stupid but it works every time (almost).

So if I'm going
HJK
Crunch
Bulk Up
Rest

(With careful nature, max spdef EPs, and max HP EPs)

What held item seems the most viable? Leftovers, or Lum Berry? Lum bErry gets you a free rest and allows you to be bulked up for the go, but lefties provides little coverage for the entire duration. I can't decide...

Just go with Shed Skin to avoid status and run lefties if you want a bulky sweep

Everyone who is running lum rest should just run chesto resto. If you get burned/para'd/poisoned ur lum berry gets rid of it and then you can't use it for rest. But if you get burned/para'd/poisoned you can just rest those off.

I'd rather have Drain Punch over HJK because not only is it more accurate, it provides recovery outside of Rest.

I need to stop using dragon dance sets as if they were bulk up sets. Hi Jump Kick is great and all, but I'm certain that this guy could easily run an effective bulky DD set the same way gyarados can. Even without the use of his dreamworld ability.

Don't feel like breeding him at the moment.

I'll have this one have HJK and Crunch.

Maybe I'll make another later who has Drain Punch and Dragon Tail instead.

And then even later make a DD one...

Hey, can anyone help me get drain punch and DD on the same scraggy through breeding? I've been trying for the past day and nothing's worked.
