Shaymin Event coming to the US

Without a doubt, Shaymin. Regigigas does unlock the Regi trio in Platinum, and comes with a Cutsap berry, but otherwise sucks ass because it's already at level 100. That pretty much means you won't be able to EV train it without the use of Vitamins (and those can only pour a hundred into any given stat). Plus, you can always get someone to trade you a spare gigas to unlock the Trio.

Regigigas isn't a terribly good pokemon competitively-wise, and Shaymin is just so much cuter! :3

Arguably, Shaymin is just as useless if Skymin is your goal. Skymin isn't useable on Wi-Fi, though it is in some situations in Union Room battling.

I have a feeling that Skymin will be unbanned on Wi-Fi when Platinum is released internationally. It's bad PR to introduce and hype a Pokemon that can barely be used...

Just speculation.

I don't think that's possible, after all, the part of the game that restricted alternate forms on wifi was coded into the game itself. So unless Nintendo wants to replace/fix everyone's Platinum, they will all likely stay banned.

Now of course, I don't know if it would be possible to transmit something over wifi to fix everyone's game with minimal effort and cost, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Apparently, there are patches released in Japan for their copies of PBR and Ranch so that Platinum Pokes would work fine. So while we'll probably get that, it's very unlikely (as you say) that we'll ever see Skymin on Wi-Fi.

Regardless, one should get Shaymin. It's event only while Regigigas is can be obtained ingame. That should be reason enough; competitive battling isn't the only condition to be considered when making a decision like that.

I think this is like the one from the Movie 11 event, so it should activate the Gracidea Flower in Platinum.

Even though I've already obtained the Movie 11 Shaymin, I wouldn't mind getting this as well.

Also, level 100 Regigigas event in March. Think it's weird that Nintendo is giving us TWO events within a MONTH of each other?

Not really, last year it was Darkrai then Deoxys and finally Dragonite in September

We got three events close to each other, so..

I think it's strange that Nintendo is finally giving us these events. It only took them 10 years to figure out that we want the events just like Japan does.

EDIT: This can be disregarded. Smogon's page gave me misleading info :(

I'm very interested in getting this berry implemented. After it is I'm going to do extensive testing with OHKO moves to potentially prove the ultimate (broken) combo. People talk about Mind Reader + Sheer Cold (which is nowhere near reliable), when a (near) zero drawback berry can pull the same effect with no set up and much more dependability. It will definitely be interesting to see bulky pokemon scoring at least one KO without ANY form of luck (something associated with OHKO moves), then spam away at the OHKO move for a not-so-bad chance to take even more down before calling quits, only to have the next pokemon lined up with another freaking no miss OHKO move on hand. I'm excited to see the devistation.

Foreseen problems are trick (though a fast OHKO spammer won't be too bad) and unfortunate "luck" with attacks after the berry is used while something (risking the KO) sets up to sweep your entire team before you can deal with it.

Now watch me sit here getting worked up only to completely overlook something important. (edit: and it freaking did, lol)

Micle Berry could also be used as a way to deal with evasion, but the one time use makes it pretty unreliable (you practically MUST hit with an attack that will KO or it's a wasted, one shot only attempt).

The problem with the Micle, and by extension, Custap berries is that when your opponent finally figures out what the hell they do, you're going to be telegraphing what your next move is. Having the Custap berry activate is basically holding up a big sign that says 'I'm going to explode next turn!'

The Micle berry may or may not be useful depending on if the accuracy boost is negated if/when your opponent switches out.

I thought I read somewhere that the Custap doesn't display a message. Oh well. Your post did raise my suspicion though, and I dislike the results.

Well I just checked Bulbapedia (Serebii too) for the Micle berry and they state that "Raises a move's accuracy just once in a pinch." Smogon's page (which is what I had been referring too) doesn't mention this at all unlike every other berry that requires that activation.

There goes all of that hope. I just knew something would pop up.

Cool. I <3 Shaymin.

And I guess this means we should be getting Arceus pretty soon. :3

Hopefully. It doesn't make much sense, otherwise.

Don't count on Arceus until about a half a year after Japan gets it. Although I assume Arceus will be revealed this year, if at all.

I'll be sure to be at Toys R Us during those times mentioned, and it serves as a reminder I need to get my master's project done before I start with Platinum come late March.

Completely untrue, even lv 100 pokemon can be EV trained. Just do the EV training then place it in the PC, exit the PC and when you come back it will have the new EV'd stats.

I have used Custap Wobbuffet a hell of alot on PBR, and in my experience, the message saying Custap has activated is shown when the move is used, thus Custap berry is much harder to predict. I hope Custap berry is put on Shoddy soon, as it makes Wobbuffet a good revenge killer in ubers.

I could swear it only worked in GSC.
I guess I'll just have to experiment with my lv. 100 Darkrai to prove it. I'll post whether it's true or not later.

You swore right. You cannot ev lv 100 pokemon and use the box trick. Nothing happens
Hearing a third user state it so makes me feel less confident. Never mind about experimenting I'll just assume its true.

Level 100 pokemon can NOT be EV trained. It doesn't have to do with levelling up or using the box trick to recalculate the stats. To gain EVs, you must gain experience, and when you are level 100 your experience gain stops. As such, no EVs. The only EVs you can give it are through vitamins, and even then they cap at 100 per stat.
