The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

Why would it be odd that the Eagles are picking up Vick. He brings them more attendance, he sits behind Donovan to learn more and then in about 6 to 7 weeks, when he's some what game ready, they can run some wildcats plays. They just jumped passed the Giants at the head of the NFC East.

If you mean attendance as in more protesters at the games, then yes, they'll get their attendance.

I'm all for second chances, but I feel sorry for the team who signed him, getting all the backlash.

It will last for 3 weeks tops. The other 14 weeks in football in Philadelphia will be fine. Maybe 1 or 2 more additional weeks after week 7 and he is allowed to play again, i hope he doesn't do bad.

I have been a Steelers fan all my life, and I think they are going all the way again this year. Last year's Super Bowl was excellent, IMO. Might be one of the greatest.

Meanwhile, I talked to some Falcon's fans and they are glad that Vick is gone. I really couldn't care about Vick...so.

And Favre is indeed back now. Who saw that coming? *raises hand

So Packers are now cowering in fear, and Vikings are more of a threat than before.

Favre is a big bitch.

This does, however, make the Vikings a definite playoff team and a solid choice to reach the Super Bowl. The Eagles might have too much talent, though.

You mean in 4 to 5 weeks when McNabb gets injured he'll come in and take over for a decent season.

Anybody else find it funny that Stallworth killed a man but only got 30 days, yet Plax is getting two years for shooting himself in the leg?

I still think that Plax case is total BS. So yeah, he illegally brought a gun into a night club, whoop-de-freaking-doo. The dumbo shot himself in the leg, not anyone else. And he's facing 2 years in prison for it? Geez...

In Stallworth's defense, had he not been a tad drunk (really the whole problem) when he hit the guy illegally crossing the street, he likely would have not gotten any time at all I bet.

Something amusing. Shane Graham the Bengals kicker got hurt in their preseason game. So Chad Ochocinco had to take up kicking duties. He already has an Extra Point as far as I know! Pritty cool if you ask me.

As a long-time Vikings observer, I can honestly say that the addition of Brett Favre will not make for much improvement. They will certainly win a few more games than they would have if they had not had him, but he is not going to lead them to the Super Bowl, and possibly not even the playoffs. The Vikings had a pretty terrible offseason, losing several key players and adding nobody important. E.J. Henderson returning from injury (injured in week 2 or 3 last season) will be helpful for the defense, but the offense will continue to be woefully inept outside of 1 or 2 big plays from Adrian Peterson every game.

er

how?

The Vikings are ELITE on both lines, have arguably the best RB in football (with a great reserve in Taylor), have okay to good WRs...now they have an actual quarterback.

11-5 absolute worst.

i don't know...

i mean, as long as the vikings don't forget that adrian peterson is a much better running back than favre is a quarterback at this point, they'll be fine. favre just has to play caretaker football...and favre as a caretaker? lolwut?

Eh, I've noticed over the past few years that the Vikings defense has quietly maintained a top 5 position. Is this due to them really being that good, or playing poor offensive opponents? I don't follow their personnel so I can't really tell.

On Favre, I really can't believe he's coming back. I'm sure he's aware he's just tarnishing his reputation more and more every time he comes out of retirement, but maybe he doesn't care? What's his goal in this?

Well i don't know about their passing defense, but their run defense is consistently the best in the league. This is all because of two people, WILLIAMS AND WILLIAMS. They are both top 5 DT's in the league and probably the best DT's at run defense. Running past them is like trying to run through a chain link fence, it ain't gonna happen

His reputation?
He's not a 15 year old kid just getting in to high school. I think he could care less how people around America about him switching teams.
he has a wife, kids, and millions of dollars...I think he'll be fine with his life if he lost fans.

The man just wants to play some football. If he doesn't do so well..fuck it. He's doing what he loves to do.

I realize that I'm extremely late replying to this, but I just wanted to note how you predicted them to do better than they did last year (10-6) when the team actually got worse over the offseason (losing Matt Birk, Darren Sharper, and more). The only player they really got over the offseason was Brett Favre, who isn't much of an improvement. It doesn't matter how good their players are on offense, Brad Childress is still calling the plays, which means the offense is going to be terrible no matter what. There's a reason Andy Reid never let Childress call the plays in Philly. The Vikings will be 10-6 this season at best.

Well, I like what I saw in the 49ers preseason, granted they're just that preseason games - but still, compared to last year...

I also like Nate Davis, give him a few years and I think he has a great chance at being the new starter; Smith isn't really going anywhere, and as much as I like Hill, his future is also a bit dim unless he steps up this year.

Stefan Logan is going to be a BEAST on returns this year. I picked him up in my fantasy league because they're giving points for return yardage :D!

In other news, predictions for Thursday night's season opener? I predict Steelers 24, Titans 13
