The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

Predicts:

Bucs vs Redskins - Haha shittest game ever!
Ravens vs Patriots - It'll be a great game, but we are too strong :D
Lions vs Bears - Lions are improved, but Bears should win
Titans vs Jaguars - Could go either way if the Titans play to potential.
Raiders vs Texans - Big day out for Dre?
Bengals vs Cleveland - I hope Cleveland somehow wins this -_-
Seahawks vs Colts - Fuck Peyton Manning.
Giants vs Chiefs - Obvious
Bills vs Dolphins - The Bills could easily be 3-0 this season and the Dolphins have no Pennington.
Jets vs Saints - Best matchup of the round, the irresistible force vs the immovable object. It'll be a great match but the Saints towelled a strong Eagles defense for almost 50 points, so I reckon they have enough to get past the Jets.
Rams vs 49ers - Lol
Cowboys vs Broncos - We'll get to see if the Broncos are for real this week with a good opponent.
Chargers vs Steelers - I hate the Steelers, but they could just as easily be 3-0 and people are forgetting they are still easily a playoff team even without Polomalu. Good match too.

Bucs vs Redskins
Ravens vs Patriots
Lions vs Bears
Titans vs Jaguars
Raiders vs Texans
Bengals vs Cleveland
Seahawks vs Colts
Giants vs Chiefs
Bills vs Dolphins
Jets vs Saints
Rams vs 49ers
Cowboys vs Broncos
Chargers vs Steelers

Bucs vs Redskins - Granted, both teams have nowhere to go but down, but I like the Redskins more
Ravens vs Patriots - Fuck Patriots
Lions vs Bears - Anyone thinking of another Lions upset is lol
Titans vs Jaguars - Titans gotta win one somewhere, may as well start here
Raiders vs Texans - Don't care for either team, but Texans at least have the better QB
Bengals vs Cleveland - Browns are sinking, Bengals are surprisingly good
Seahawks vs Colts - Seahawks are plagued with injuries again this year, how unlucky can you get?
Giants vs Chiefs - Giants are better, duh
Bills vs Dolphins - Pennington being out will hurt too much, Dolphins ain't making the playoffs
Jets vs Saints - Jets have been on fire, but so have the Saints. And the Saints offense is much more explosive, though I don't see a 40 point game out of Brees.
Rams vs 49ers - Another chance for the Niners to extend their NFC West lead over their only true contender left (Cardinals)
Cowboys vs Broncos - Really, I think the Broncos are a fluke, but if they take out my hated Cowboys, it'll definitely legitimize them I think
Chargers vs Steelers - Eh, I like both teams, but I'm sure the Chargers would love some revenge for last year's loss.

I don't care that Pennington is hurt, we lost both our starting safeties and one of the starting CBs. Also, our starting LT is out and starting RG is done for the year.

This happens every fucking year. We're going to lead the league again in players on IR.

Bucs vs Deadskins
Ravens vs Patriots

G-Girls vs Chiefs

HOF-caliber QB
Lol, McNabb is not a Hall of Famer.

Bucs vs Redskins - lol
Ravens vs Patriots - Literally my two most hated teams in the NFL. Why can't they both lose?
Lions vs Bears - My upset pick for the week.
Titans vs Jaguars - lol @ del Rio cancelling Garrard's radio show
Raiders vs Texans - someone assassinate Al Davis. Please.
Bengals vs Cleveland - Not sure why Cleveland thinks they'll do any better with DA over BQ
Seahawks vs Colts - This will actually be closer than we expect. Clots will pull it out though
Giants vs Chiefs - [Both Giants RBs go over 100 yards here]
Bills vs Dolphins - Fredshawn > Rickronnie
Jets vs Saints - Brees, Colston, and Bush are on my fantasy team, so I need this =P
Rams vs 49ers - Even without Gore, Singletary is a beast
Cowboys vs Broncos - As much as I hate the Cryboys, the Broncos are way overrated
Chargers vs Steelers - Come on, would I ever NOT pick the Steelers?

I love statements like these. Prove it or shut up.

1. Roughing the holder? LOLOL
2. Sean Locklear phantom hold?
3. No call on Porter's horsecollar on Alexander.
4. Pass interference on Jackson despite the fact Hope grabbed his arm on the play. Hope had to whine to the refs, most of whom were Shittsburgh natives, to get the call.
5. No call on two blatant offside penalties on the Squeelers.
6. Illegal block call on Hasselbeck? Give me a break.
7. Big Jen admitted on Letterman he did not get the touchdown. It was so painfully obvious he did not get in.
8. Harrison clearly did not get the touchdown.
9. That ridiculous roughing the passer in the last drive of 43.
10. Playclock hit zero seconds before Jen called timeout, no delay of game.
11. The Steelers were not penalized a single time in the second half of Super Bowl 40.
12. No call on Holmes's excessive celebration.
13. No review on the Warner "fumble".
14. No call on Holme's facemask on Rogers-Cromartie.

I can go on and on. No one, except Steelers fans, denies how poorly officiated Super Bowl 40 was. That game was so blatantly rigged to get Jerome the Fatass a ring in his hometown it was unbelievable.

Bucs vs Redskins - I'm disgusted at how they played, frankly they deserved to lose, but they need/should win this week to recover.
Ravens vs Patriots- pats don't look the same, Ravens look better than last year, lol
Lions vs Bears -gogo upset #2
Titans vs Jaguars
Raiders vs Texans
Bengals vs Cleveland
Seahawks vs Colts
Giants vs Chiefs
Bills vs Dolphins
Jets vs Saints
Rams vs 49ers
Cowboys vs Broncos
Chargers vs Steelers

most games this week are a bit... lopsided, lol

I love how you just pick out any questionable calls that went in favor of the Steelers and conveniently forget any that went against them. Harrison "clearly" did not get the touchdown? Give me a fuckin break dude, Steelers fans arent the only ones who felt it was a TD. Yeah, we all know Ben didn't get the TD in 40. That makes the final score 14-10 instead of 21-10, which is still a win. The rest of your list up there is just insignificant shit, mostly from a Super Bowl 4 years ago that you crybabies just can't fuckin let go. Honestly even if I wasn't a Pittsburgh fan I'd still find this shit tired and lame.

I'm not even sure why I'm responding to you, as all you're doing is picking out shit that suits your argument and leaving anything that goes against it. Conspiracy theorists are great at omitting details and manipulating information so it appears as though they are right. In reality, you're just a whiny little bitch who is bitter because their favorite team didn't win the Super Bowl, and a team they hate did.

If Ben did not get the touchdown and Darrell Jackson did, Seahawks win 17-14. Check the stats for both games, Steelers got outplayed in both.

I did. Here's what I found:

SB 40
~~~~
Total Net Yards: Seahawks 396, Steelers 339
Net Rushing Yards: Seahawks 137, Steelers 181
Net Passing Yards: Seahawks 259, Steelers 158
Third Down Efficiency: Seahawks 5/17 (29%), Steelers 8/15 (53%)
Turnovers: Seahawks 1, Steelers 2
Div Playoff (Steelers vs Colts)
~~~~~~~
Total Net Yards: Steelers 295, Colts 305
Net Rushing Yards: Steelers 112, Colts 58
Net Passing Yards: Steelers 183, Colts 247
Third Down Efficiency: Steelers 6/14 (42%), Colts 3/13 (23%)
Turnovers: Steelers 2, Colts 0

As you can see, both games were fairly close stat-wise, which doesn't constitute the Steelers being "outplayed".

Um I think he meant both Super Bowls. Also team stats are not a good way of determining how well a team played.

Remember folks, you have lies, damned lies, and statistics.

wow you spout an unasserted and seemingly stupid statement then back it up with a quote

good job

the steelers hate in general is beyond ridiculous - it's pure envy honestly, because their team is not the best football franchise in history

Finally, an NFL Thread.

I don't know if anyone has talked about in a lot of detail but, can you believe the Redskins lost to the Lions?

Ok so I probably should've said that "it's not the best way". i.e. history says whoever has the ball longer by a large margin wins. Colts defeat Dolphins despite having the ball for less than 15 minutes. If you just looked at the Dolphins offensive stats without knowing the score, you'd think that they dominated Indy. 27 first downs to Indy's 13. 403 total offense to Indy's 356. 239 rushing yards to Indy's 61. Again, if you just looked at the stats, you'd think the Dolphins just went up and down the field on the Colts, scoring at will. But if you watched the game, you'd actually see that it was the Colts who went up and down the field, hitting the Dolphins with big play after big play. The Dolphins on the other hand, while seeming to run all over the Colts, struggled to to get important 1st downs at times and as a result only put 23 points on the board. The 239 rushing yards was also a result of running the ball 49 times. My statement wasn't so unasserted after all eh?

i was thinking about this a few days ago...and i relate this to the new england hate.

quite simply, people hate winners.

for example, i admit that i really dislike the patriots. i can try to explain my opinion by bringing up the claims that belichick cheated on multiple occasions, or just the media saturation that tom brady and his team garners sometimes. but it boils down to one thing: they win. (and beat my team often)

Why would anyone hate the Steelers over hating the Pats?

I don't necessarily hate the Pats... just can't stand how overhyped they are. Why do I have to sit there looking at ESPN for 30 minutes to wait until the Bill Bellechick or w/e news conference is over then they show one td for every other game and no news conference.
