The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

A bit off-topic but, I just saw the Minnesota Twins play their hearts out to get to the playoffs. No one expected them to make it especially with Detroit having such a large lead in the division with like a month to go. Either you're some kind of retarded or you're an obvious troll. I think you should've just stuck with the latter.

L2appreciate your teams

Although I won't deny that the Vikings are capable of all kinds of fail 8D

Then we watched them get swept by the Yankees, blowing leads in all three games to fall to 0-10 against evil New York on the season. It was great that they got there, and I was there for the final regular season game against Kansas City at the Dome, but it's all too classic for Minnesota (of any sport) to rip your heart out in the playoffs, especially the Twins against the damned Yankees.

In football news, Jason Campbell is horrible. The Redskins are bad, just one of the many awful teams out there this year.

Well, 29/43 for 284 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT is actually decent, but yeah he is kinda bad when you add his two fumbles (1 lost, 1 recovered). I hope stupid Dan Snyder realizes that taking Zorn's play calling away and giving it to Sherm Lewis did absolutely JACK SHIT and made Snyder look like a douchemissile (as if he didn't look like one already...)

Even that's inflated when you consider that a solid chunk came when the game was realistically in the bag. When the game mattered, as Philadelphia seized early control and built their lead, he made poor decisions and was inaccurate. Washington will not be successful until they chance their coach, their quarterback, and probably their owner as well.

Look on the bright side, at least you have LeBron until he abandons you to join the Knicks.

Haha, another kick in the mouth! This year is probably our last opportunity for a while to win a championship, now that the Indians are awful.

Remember when the Browns were 10-6? That was in 2007. Braylan Edwards set a franchise record for receiving yards and Derek Anderson looked like a Pro Bowler. WOW. I'm going to be at the Lions/Browns game in a few weeks (I live near Detroit) and I hope it's a hilarious game between two terrible teams, but honestly I just see the Lions crushing them.

Am I the only one who finds Mark Sanchez eating a hot dog on the bench at the end of the game because it was so easy hilarious?

Derek Anderson never looked like a pro bowler. He threw under 57%! To put that in perspective, 24 other quarterbacks managed to complete passes at a 60% rate (240 attempts minimum). Now did Derek Anderson have a nice ypa and nice TD amounts? Yes, absolutely - 12th for ypa at 7.2 and 5th for TDs. He was also 4th in INTs, but 29/19 is a perfectly fine ratio, so you can write that off I guess. Either way, Brady/Manning/Roethlisberger for the AFC and Romo/Favre/Warner for the NFC were the only quarterbacks who really impressed that year. Except Warner (at 62.3%) they all managed to throw over 64% with huge ypa (7.6 and up) and nearly all better TD/INT looks too (50/8, 36/19, 28/15, 31/14, 32/11, and 27/17)! That is what a pro bowler does. A fluke throws high amounts of yards and touchdowns at a below 57% completion rate in two different seasons in a row and then has his career end.

Sometimes I forget youtube exists I guess. The newest comment is a gem.

where did that wet-bak get that hot dog AT? MEXICANS ARE ALWAYS HUNGRY!! i KNOW CUZ WE WERE RAISED EATING HOTDOGS Im mexican to all the dumasses who think im a racist!

Lol oh btw concerning those numbers Jason Campbell, if people actually watched the game, they'd know that Jason played terribly. I couldn't lead the offense, he was highly erratic and he looked like he simply did not want to play. Of course you can't expect Jamarcus Russel numbers from every bad QB performance, that Redskins game proved it.

So I was what... 7-2 last week? Not bad. Damn the Falcons for sucking and for Jake Delhomme being... Jake Delhomme D:

Of the many horrible teams in the NFL, who is the worst? The Rams do have that nice losing streak going, but for my money it's Tampa Bay.

I like simple analysis because it is often the most powerful. Obviously it may not always go in the exact order, but the best teams will generally have the highest point difference and the worst teams will generally have the absolute worst. This puts the Rams as the worst by a long shot!

Browns -107
Bucaneers -107
*Titans -114
Raiders -115
Rams -151

The Titans are the only team there with only six games, so they would project to -133, standing as clearly second worst. Lions also only have six games and would project to -99.

Really this shows a clear break too: the Panthers and Chiefs are the next group of terrible teams (Panthers with -51 projecting to -60 and Chiefs at -76), and then even the Redskins are not nearly so terrible (-27). The Bills should be lower (only -25), but I guess they inspire other teams to play down to their offensive level lol

I can't argue with that. As bad as Tampa Bay has been, the stats seem to suggest that St. Louis is even worse. Ironically, Oakland, the team with two more points than St. Louis and the fewest yards per game in the NFL, has two wins (by the YDS/G metric, Tampa Bay is slightly worse than St. Louis, so take that).

I honestly think the Redskins are the worst team in the NFL right now. They have ok defense that is preventing them being blown out, but their offense has got to be the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Even the Rams and the Bucs have a better offense than they do.

So despite part of their team being okay they somehow remain the worst, rather than the teams that actually have no okay parts. Hmm, this makes a lot of sense.

Rams and Bucs are definitely the worst.. Not sure that it matters though. Even a few good picks next year still won't be enough to turn their franchise around.

I'd venture to say the Bucs aren't the worst team by a long shot. Rams are just garbage, and the Bucs have kept numerous games relatively close, even if they are playing crappy opponents. Even though the Skins beat them, at least the Bucs have some shine through moments and potential on their squad

All I know is my Bears are really frustrating me. I just don't see how they are playing like they are.. [below average] Regardless of their 3-3 record.

Below average? With a gunslinger quarterback, a terrible receiving core outside of Olsen who doesn't have the speed to break games open, an old and beat up defense and a mediocre coachings staff. I think they are doing pretty well this year compared to what they could be.

Well Devin Hester sure has been unable to get passes thrown to him, which has to be some part his fault and some part a quarterback's fault!

The Bears aren't what they used to be, and you can probably write this year off, but Cutler is someone to build a franchise around. The future, at least, has potential.
