I still hope they go to the Super Bowl and all, but they lost all the gas.
I really, REALLY hope they don't actually lose to the Jets this week. I don't like the Bengals but I've been making a pretty big deal over how the Jets shouldn't be in the playoffs with my buddies and them winning would mean I am responsible for a night of expensive drinking :justin:
Well, I've already made my picks for this weekend, but let me explain them a little.
Jets @ Bengals - After a crushing 37-0 loss, the Bengals have to defeat a team with a lot of momentum. The most crushing part of this is, while the Bengals sat only one RB, the Jets held the Bengals to 6 Yards in the First Half, with Carson Palmer Playing. That screams J E T S. JETS JETS JETS to me.
Ravens @ Patriots - The Patriots have two things against them in this game. 1) Wes Welker is out, and 2) Tom Brady might be right behind him. Welker was the primary receiver, and Brady, if he does play, will be working with a broken rib and a broken finger, not exactly what you want when facing one of the best d's in the League.
Packers @ Cardinals - Really, I think Rodgers is peaking at the right time, and will carry this team to the next round, if not the NFC Championship. The if in there is if they play the Vikings, who will not lose at home, guranteed.
Eagles @ Cowboys - Again, a situation of a QB peaking at the right time, and the D is working hard (two shutouts in a row is nothing to sneeze at). If the Cowboys can carry this momentum into next week, I think the Saints or Vikings will have a lot of trouble. This will also break their streak of playoff losses.

i made a really easy quiz to start on linebackers (im lem_only_me), but i think these kinds of games are great for starting conversations on who surprised you, who is underrated, who didn't have a great year, etc.
maybe we can all start making quizzes, with increasing difficulty or whatever. a great way to relax off of a very interesting season. any interest?

does not incredibly closely correlate. It is always a little futile to get into who makes each other better, a quarterback or wide receiver, but I think here it is obviously a little to a lot more of Miles Austin than Tony Romo.

AFC:
Bengals vs Jets - Neither team's offenses are great, that's for sure. However, I think the Jet's defense has what it takes to squeak by here; either way, a win won't be pretty I think.
Patriots vs Ravens - Fuck Patriots, fuck Brady. "nuff said.
NFC:
Cardinals vs Packers - I'm gonna go ahead and say the Packers revealed too much of their gameplan last week, whereas the Cardinals tucked Warner away and let them study Lame-art, I mean Leinart, for a bit. Though the Cardinals haven't been great at home this season, I expect the deafening roar of the stadium this time will help in their quest to go on to R2.

Not Farve really, but I do think it shouldve been Benson or Young. Young went from an almost suicide to bringing an 0-6 team almost back to .500... Also where was Benson last year? Riding the Pine and given a chance in Cincinatti by starting as a backup. Now he was a top 5 rusher in the league...
I think Young deserves to win it, even Benson. I mean Benson going from the Bears 2nd string runningback 2 years ago to a leading rusher is a lot, but Lakers sums it up with Young's amazing comeback.
I'm doing nothing of the sort: I'm stating that the Cowboy's have gotten two shutouts in a row, against the Eagles no less. The team is getting good, and I believe they'll make it to next round.

AFC Offensive MVP - Peyton Manning

AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year - Mark Sanchez (or Knowshawn Moreno, but Sanchez is in the playoffs while Moreno isn't)
AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year - Jarius Byrd (or Brian Cushing)

NFC Defensive MVP - Patrick Willis
NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year - Percy Harvin

they made the playoffs by running / defense. sanchez had a very mediocre year, although not that terrible. I would expect collie or moreno to win.
i think drew brees, aaron rodgers, and tony romo are all better choices than favre for the award, but i think brees is the only one besides favre who will win it. patrick willis > charles woodson? woodson had 9 picks iirc, 3 tds, 6 forced fumbles, around 70 tackles, 2 sacks, and just really anchored that top 5 defense.
NFL Overall MVP - Peyton Manning
i dunno about that, cushing had an amazing year, as did byrd, while the offensive players were "meh" besides harvin. I actually think we would have a defensive "overall rookie of the year".
Who else does? Only other person that really comes to my mind is -maybe- Chris Johnson or Drew Brees, but neither of them are as vital to their respective teams as Manning is and has been for years.
Also I think the comeback player award should be more geared toward players who were once great, fell off for more than a year, then suddenly revitalized their careers. I know alot of people are bagging on Favre, but statistically he is having a monster year, possibly the best of his career, after having several questionable seasons previously. Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson also had outstanding years after being not so productive for several seasons.
However, I think the underlying requirement of it all is that you have to have once been great and then fallen off. Benson I don't think qualifies for the award because it's not like he came back from falling off, he just came out for the first time, which is different. One could argue that Ricky Williams didn't really establish himself either at the beginning of his career either. Tom Brady, though he did fall from greatness, it was because of an injury and it was only for one season. As much as I hate to say it I think this is one award Favre actually does deserve. Not MVP or whatever, but I can believe Comeback.
You're partially right, but blatantly overlooking the fact that VY has become a better leader and was an overall better passing QB this season, not to mention those times he drove his team down the field and won games at the end. Or was CJ throwing those passes into tight coverage?
Um, yeah, that's exactly what he came back from. He was being labeled as one of the biggest draft busts this decade and was pretty much down to his last shot at the NFL, so I don't see how you can say he didn't make a comeback.
Palmer has also been saddled with Ochocinco's drama, Henry's suspensions, and the lack of a dominant defense. Your point?

Now your ignorance is REALLY apparent. Time away from the NFL? You mean the SINGLE year he was suspended for, in which he played 11 games in the CFL? And got injured twice? Right, that was just a walk in the park.
But I agree that Williams doesn't deserve comeback player consideration. If at all, it should have been last year, when he was returning from 2007 where he played one game and had his shoulder stepped on and fucked up. This year, he's only repeating what he did last year, just taking a larger role without Ronnie Brown.
Yes, but he was already the explosive back before VY took over the team. Stats don't lie. Why is it he became more consistent after week 6? Hmm, maybe because they let Kerry Collins stop shitting up the whole thing? Or maybe you want to look at VY's and notice the fact that his highest rating in a whole season was 71.1, and he raised it more than 10 points this year. He went from a possibly suicidal, poor passing quarterback to, most likely, Jeff Fisher's QB of the future. That's not a comeback?
Again, look at the stats. The two previous seasons he averaged 3.4 and 3.5 yards per rush, completely mediocre. This year, he exploded up to 4.2 and became the go to guy that he never was in Chicago. How is that not a comeback?
He has had a statistical down year by his standards, but keep in mind he hasn't HAD to be anything more than that like he has in the past. With both Benson and (lol) Larry Johnson tearing it up on the ground, he has still passed for 3,000+ yards, 21 TDs and only 13 INTs. That doesn't sound "downright mediocre" to me, unless you're comparing him to Peyton Manning. Fuck, as a Bills fan, you know how much I'd love that kind of "downright mediocre?"

After typing this post, researching all these stats, and making this argument, I realized the major flaw in your "support Tom Brady" argument... the whole point to the Comeback Player of the Year award is it is supposed to go to someone who no one expected a lot from. This is Tom Fucking Brady here, who still has the greatest offense of all time intact from 2007. Did anyone expect any less? I mean, fucking seriously, that offense made Matt Cassel $14 million dollars, I'm not really too fucking impressed by Tom Cockgobbling Brady.
