someone used that set on me today and won because of it :@

subbed against paralyzed dialga and after 2 subs i was FP and then 2hkod me with draco meteor. without sub i would have won

^^^^ Nothing special. Just run Timid. It'll obviously work.
With scarf palkias and SD rayquzas with extremespeed (not to mention garchomp), Modest is an acceptable choice since the only things you'll outrun are Lugia and the weather ubers anyways.

The main problem with Kyogre is that you need someone to absorb the Spout (or prevent it from pulling one off in the first place but that might not be so easy), and Blissey alone can't do that. Most Kyogres I've faced tend to spam Water Spouts until their HP is low enough.

Despite Latias getting 2HKOed by Specs Beam, I feel safer against Kyogre due to that factor. That and the fact that Latias stops pretty much Kyogre's whole moveset, unlike Bliss (who can't take on Rest/Talk or 101 HP Sub), or Palkia (who takes an insane amount from Thunder and can't really stop CM/Surf/IB/Thunder unless it decides to Specs itself)

Latias being a guaranteed Kyogre counter regardless of its moveset. Does Rayquaza have one? No. The steels that resist Outrage and Extremespeed are hit hard by Earthquake and/or Overheat. By that logic, nothing can swap safely in. And that's only the DD set - what about a mixed set, a special set, a SD set and so forth. But by experience, we predict that Rayquaza is a DD set, and switch in a pokemon, expecting a DD or Outrage, with a way to fight back.

Similarly, against Kyogre, we predict it's going to use a Water Spout, and we throw in a counter. I'm alright with throwing Palkia in; Kyogre has already lost some damage from SR, and Palkia is still able to fight and threaten every pokemon in the metagame, and soon, Kyogre be weak enough for Blissey to wall. If Kyogre is a CM set, I can switch in Rayquaza. The CM/Surf/IB/Thunder set is OHKOed by LO Outrage, whilst StalkOgre is 2HKOed and has no hope of OHKOing Rayquaza. I rarely see Kyogres throw out random moves; it's almost always Water Spout and CM unless there's an obvious reason to use another move e.g. Thunder on opposing Kyogre.

The same goes for many other Ubers. We act on prediction. Do many Ubers have one? No. People send in Lugia on Groudon every day, and Groudon can just use Stone Edge or Toxic. Yet the Lugia still usually come on top. Blissey and Latias are swapped in on Palkia, despite an obvious Outrage risk, but they still work most of the time. Mewtwo, well Mewtwo's just a physco cat. You actually have to work out it's moveset before trying to fight it, for Blissey could be Taunted, it could CM, and every pokemon is threatened by Ice Beam/Thunder/Fire Blast/Grass Knot/Aura Sphere/Selfdestruct/etc.

I thought a life orbed dark pulse from a neutral nature darkrai always 2HKOs Latias with 112 HP / 0 sp.def EVs? Of course, if latias has already CM'd it can't 2HKO, but still...

Personally, I tend to switch my Blissey on the Kyogre instead of latias, because most of the kyogres I've faced carry thunder-wave, and that really cripples my latias every time she switches in (no, latias didn't carry refresh that time). Blissey doesn't really mind being paralyzed, unlike latias.
Just based on my experiences.

I rarely rarely ever see Thunderwave on Kyogre. Blissey can't take a 87.5% Specs Water Spout to the face. You will see this far more often than Thunderwave.

Wobbuffet in general needs to be used more, as he can benefit a lot of Uber teams. For example, he can help Offensive teams set-up by encoring a move a sweeper is immune to. He can also revenge kill several threats such as Scarf Palkia. Wobbuffet is also a great way to beat Lugia and Blissey, whether its via tickle or encore. Wobbuffet's main problem is that thanks to his lack of a recovery move, he really needs wish support to work well. Wobbuffet's other problem is that he can't take on some of the hardest hitters in Ubers, such as DD Rayquaza, Specs ogre, and Darkrai in general. But despite these big issues, Wobbuffet has been working wonderfully for me.

The main problem with Wobbuffet is that there are few situations in which he can switch into an attack and retaliate; Ubers hit too hard. He's best used as a revenge killer, but he usually takes a lot of damage in the process, and that's just with one attack. Scarf Palkia's Surf in the Rain does 48.86 - 57.58% damage, a 95.60% chance of a 2HKO. He is completely dependent on knowing your opponent's set.

Tickle is, unfortunately, beaten by Toxic, a common move on walls that are weak to Tickle. Otherwise, Tickle is effective if your willing to have two pokemon on your team for this trick, and who may, otherwise, be inferior to other possible team candiates like Rayquaza and Palkia. Though Wobbuffet's lack of popularity won't convince me to use Shed Shell on Blissey (at least, for now).

Timid is preferred in order to outspeed non-Scarf Palkia and Garchomp, Mew, Latias and other Latios.

Yeah, Wobbuffet requires a lot of support to work well, so he is definitly not for everyone. In fact, I never switch him into things like Palkia, as Wobbuffet is bound to take a lot of damage. Its much easier to swap him in on Lugia, encore him, and switch to a pokemon to set up on him. If you ever use Wobbuffet to revenge kill, Wish support and dual screens is almost neccsary, or he will die next turn. Honestly, Wobbuffet is much better as a set-up machine than a revenge killer in my experience.

Tickle isn't that good of an option in my expereince, as I often have more sucsess using walls like Lugia as set up bait. Tickle can work if you base your team around it though.

Shedinja is THE counter for Kyogre.

Have a Spinner, that's all.

Have Encore on the Quagsire to counter the Rest+Talk Kyogre. Encoring Sleep Talk makes it fail by default. Encoring Rest forces a switch, etc.

P.S. Can a Lead Deoxys-S survive a *Timid* Scarf Kyogre's Water Spout with Light Screen? It outspeeds it and can Recover.

Deoxys-S @ Leftovers / Light Clay
Timid
252 HP / 180 SpD / 76 Spe

Light Screen
Recover
Spikes / Stealth Rock
Taunt / Reflect

*This puts it 1 Speed above Timid Kyogre. Item is based on 4th Slot.

Damage: 61.18% - 72.04%

It doesn't matter if you have a darkrai, Girataina still blocks spin and can switch out on Darkrai.

It doesn't matter if you have a darkrai, Girataina still blocks spin and can switch out on Darkrai.
And possibly allow Darkrai to cast sleep on one of your pokemon in the process? Darkrai does counter a Giratina if it avoids a Draco Meteor, especially since Darkrai doesn't really mind Will-o-wisp or Shadow Ball while switching in.

Giratina will probably want to absorb Darkrai's Dark Void. As for Giratina-O, it's far too risky sending in Darkrai. Darkrai cannot swap into a Giratina-O using Sub, CM, Outrage and Draco Meteor, all common moves on Giratina-O that it frequently uses. It is much harder to use Rapid Spin than it is to kill Giratina.

Even without Giratina, Rapid Spin is a free switch-in for any pokemon. Groudon can Rock Polish, many Ubers can CM, a Taunt user can come in to stop Forretress from setting up entry hazards (Forretress is the only viable spinner in Ubers - Tentacruel and Starmie lack defensive stats, and Donphan is inferior to Forretress as a physical wall thanks to Forretress' blessed typing and high Defence).

Not to forget that SR can also be set up again after it is removed. And Shedninja is overrated even when it gets on the field. Scizor has Pursuit, many Palkia and Dialga have Fire Blast, many Rayquaza have Overheat, many Groudon have Stone Edge and/or Fire Punch, Lati@s may have HP Fire, Mewtwo may have Flamethrower, many pokemon may have Shadow Ball, and walls like Blissey, Lugia and Groudon may have Toxic (which bypasses Focus Sash).

In turn, Shedninja has 90 base attack and relies on a 40 base power move to outspeed pokemon. He frequently wastes his time in play using Will o Wisp, and that's generally the only thing he gets done besides some minor Shadow Sneak damage. By using Shedninja, I have either sacrficed a team slot to burn an opposing pokemon and deal some damage, or I have completely wasted a pokemon thanks to SR.

Honestly, Shedninja is so crap. I don't even bother with 56 Speed EVs on Scizor for it, or having a Ghost pokemon for Shedninja. It's that bad; it's far too hard to get into play safely with Giratina in play, and even if it does manage to get into play, it rarely does much.

^Brilliant description :)
Also I'd like to note that you can't outright Spin the SR away when you see a Stealth Rocker. Dialga, for instance, will vaporize Forry with a fire move if it tries to Spin the SR away, ensuring that for some time the SR on the field will be on, and during those moments a Kyogre can swap in and cause destruction

Anyways Darkrai does not counter Giratina. If your argument is Dark Void, my argument is Sleep Clause. So if Darkrai has put something to sleep, then uhh...how does he counter Giratina again? Giratina can CM on the Darkrai switch in, 2HKOing it with Dragon Pulse in the process while Darkrai 3HKOes with Life Orb Dark Pulse. Also before anyone says it, Trick is not a valid counterargument.

Speaking of Spinners, though, I've come to be thoroughly annoyed with a couple people now carrying Forretress on their Uber teams. Guess they've come to realize it's rather sturdy, Toxic Spikes are rather deadly, and that it spins away Deoxys-E's annoying Spikes while Deoxys-E isn't really able to do anything in return. And with Magnezone having little use in Ubers, and not even Tickle Wobbufet being able to effectively take it out, it's extremely hard to take out if you pair it with Blissey and Lugia, bringing about a fairly annoying Uber Stall core.

I would like to point out that I use Magnezone for this reason alone. Along with breaking that damn ForTina wall combo!

Indeed, Forretress is an inrcedible pain in the ass to deal with. I ran Giratina-O on one of my teams just to deal with it, as he can easily get a sub or Calm mind up. So if Forretress is giving you problems, Giratina-O can be great if you can fit it in, as the Sub Calm minder rips through most stall teams in my experience.

Personally, I don't think Fortress isn't really that hard to deal with for me. Like Theorymon mentioned, anything that can switch into a rapid spin and can hit back hard in return works great, since you have a free chance when fortress switches out. (For example, Kyogre and Giratina-O)

@Gen: I've tried using magnezone to take out Fortress, but most of the times Fortress usually carry shed shell, making magneton useless.

So no for Shed Shell Forretress.
Maybe I've just been misinformed, but everytime I get my magnezone to trap Fortress, it always manages to switch out for some reason, which is why I just send out Kyogre and get a free turn of CM instead.

*yes I'm dead serious. Consider me unlucky, but yea.

Hey ubers players! Can you guys help me out on a predicament for me?

I'm trying to figure out a spread for this set. My main question is how important is it for the Skymin in my sig to be able to 2HKO max/max Bulk Up Dialga? Or Dialga in general?

((and yes, I do know Skymin can't be used on Wi-Fi but it'll be neat to use anyways))

The set for reference:

Skymin @ Leftovers

Seed Bomb
Substitute
Earth Power
Swords Dance

The keep it short: Grass / Ground seems to have great coverage in ubers, only being walled by Lugia, Rayquaza, lol Parasect / Shedinja and Ho-oh, who is rare from what I hear. Sub, SD, and sweep their team, Earth Powering any Steels that come your way.

Oh, and any additional comments on the set would also be appreciated.

^^^^ Eh, a physical attacker walled by Lugia and Giratina? That's a no no right there.

Skymin is just...useless in Ubers IMO except for a special set that abuses Seed Flare to KO Kyogre, Groudon, and Palkia.

Anyway I would say that 2hkoing Dialga is pretty damn important, because Dialga can easily break your subs and kill you with any fire attack or Outrage too.

Uber game Analysis - January

Since no one uses the metagame analysis sub-forum (and I can't post in it) I'll make one here for it.

496.png
:
Darkrai has been getting less and less action as a lead now that everyone and their mother have prepared for it in some degree. Darkrai is coming back as a late to middle game sweeper. It occasionally carries a Choice Scarf, but when it is not Darkrai is most likely the Nasty Plot varient.
386.png
(all forms)
Deoxys is not used much outside of a lead; even then, it's only Deoxys-s or the ocasional Deoxys-a. Deoxys usage is going down, the Defense version sees hardly any use, while the normal version isn't used... ever. Deoxys cannot compete with Scizor running around with Choice Band U-turn and with all of the powerful hard hitting attacks all over the place.

488.png

Dialga became second place in the Uber tier last month. The Scarf and Specs Dialga sets becaming increasingly popular, while the Bulk Up set slowly died down. Dialga came back as the #1 Swords Dance Rayquaza counter when given Choice Scarf, while the Choice Specs set (somewhat of a surprise) will break open the normal wall of Dialga, Lugia.

450.png

Garchomp now ahs a place in the Uber game. He's become one of the most potent revenge killers in Ubers. He comes with the 102 Base Speed stat that out speeds a ton of ubers as is, given a Choice Scarf he is ready to play. Near the end of the month, the Sub + Salac + Swords Dance set became extremely popular.

492.png
origingiratina3wq3.png
(All Forms)
Giratina is still not getting used much, or at all over the other wall of Ubers, Lugia. Giratina is usually seen on stall teams so to have a good spin blocker. The Dragon Claw / Pulse Rest Talk set is still the most common set. Giratina-O hasn't seen much use at all, though when he does it's the Mixed Attacker set, or the Sub Calm Mind set.

383.png

Groudon is still a very commonly used Uber pokemon, the support set and the lead seem to be very popular now. Rock Polish seems to have died down on its own, as with Swords Dance. "Double Dance" has taken priority over both Rock Polish and Swords Dance, the only issue it seems to face is coverage.

250.png

Ho-Oh is rarely used in Ubers thanks to its 4x Stealth Rock weakness, which effectivly cuts its HP in half on every switch in. Choice Band seems to be the popular Ho-Oh set when it's around, and if not then Life Orb is the next best item.

382.png

Kyogre has still seemed to remain the king of Ubers for the past few months. Given the rain giving it double STAB is nothing to joke about. Specs Kyogre is still the most popular set, though there were a few Scarf Kyogre leads. Calm Mind / Rest / Sleep Talk / Surf was used a bit, and same with the Calm Mind three attack set.

381.png

Latios is rarely seen in Ubers at all, but when he is seen the Dual Screen + Memento pass is common, along with the all out sweeper set. Latios with Dual Screen + Memento makes great set up fodder for Mew, and of course will BP stats to a random pokemon.

dpffa380.png

Latias, unlike her brother, is seen a bit more; most often on stall teams than anything else. Latias is still the only true Kyogre counter, being able to switch in and weaken it's Water Spout, along with threatening to hurt it severly with Grass Knot or Thunder. Latias' usually runs Calm Mind / Recover / Grass Knot - Thunder / Dragon Pulse.

249.png

This month Lugia usage went down. Perhaps it was because of Wobbuffet getting more use and effectivly removing walls like Lugia from the game completely. Lugia runs some combination of the moves Roost, Reflect, Whirlwind, Toxic and Ice Beam. Lugia is still a great counter to Rayquaza and Groudon. The only problem is leaving Lugia in early game.

495.png

This little imp gets almost no use in Ubers. Normally it will be paired along with Kyogre to fully abuse Hydration. Tail Glow is a fantastic stat up move, paried with rain and Manaphy's typing, Surf is a powerful move.

151.png

Mew is mostly seen as the reciver of Screens or a Memento pass. The recivers of Mews' passes are usually Dialga, Groudon or a Palkia. Groudon decreased over the other two as Specs Kyogre still has a shot of ruining its sweep thanks to Water Spout doing an extraordinary amount of damage. Mew runs Taunt / Nasty Plot - Swords Dance / Rock Polish / Baton Pass.

150.png

Mewtwo is seen somewhat often in Ubers. The most common set, as of now, is the Scarf Mewtwo lead. Often used to counter the common leads + Trick a Scarf to everything else. Mewtwo also can be seen suing Calm Mind and some version of Taunt or the three attack set.

489.png

Palkia is still one of the best revenge killers in Ubers thanks to its fantastic Special Attack stat, and decent speed. Though, more and more people seem to have been breaking away from the Scarf set and have been using Lustrous Orb Palkia instead. If this is because of the surprise factory, or to open up more possibilities I do not know.

384.png

Rayquaza is still seen fairly often; the mix Rayquaza set seemed to be used somewhat late in the month, though Swords Dance Rayquaza is one of his better sets. Dragon Dance seems to be almost completely forgotten. Lugia still walls this thing to no extent.

202.png

Thanks to Theorymon (and to my dismay) Wobbuffet, or (>~<)7 is now getting quite a bit of action in Ubers, due to him being able to break walls like Blissey and Lugia like nothing. He is also a set up machine, do not be shocked if his usage continues to rise.

Excuse me, would you like to die?

It's also interesting that Wobbuffet is perhaps the best way to counter Darkrai in the game. Have a lead in which Scarf Darkrai will stay in on and use Dark Void. Then swap in Wobbuffet. Darkrai is now locked onto Dark Void. Wobbuffet can just stay in. The few turns in which Wobbuffet will wake up, combined with Leftovers Recovery, is enough for Wobbuffet to surive 16 turns of Darkrai locked into Dark Void and his Bad Dreams. Misses with Dark Void help as well, but are unnecessary due to sleep's maximum turn limit of 4. Ultimately, Darkrai will be forced to struggle and kill itself, dealing pitiful damage. Darkrai has no escape.

The downside to this is that whilst Wobbuffet won't faint, it will lose a lot of HP. This can be solved by having Safeguard as a move, saving you some Bad Dreams damage. However, this will cost you Tickle should you wish to take that route.

150.png

Mewtwo is seen somewhat often in Ubers. The most common set, as of now, is the Scarf Mewtwo lead. Often used to counter the common leads + Trick a Scarf to everything else and blow up to take down a pokemon. Mewtwo also can be seen using Calm Mind and some version of Taunt or the three attack set.

Yes! People finally realise the potential of my set! It's such a shame that Scizor is making his life so hard.

Yeah, the tweaked EV set you gave me on my RMT has been working great. 'course, people are now catching on and using Dark Pulse off the bat.

'course, more Mewtwos really should carry Fire Blast. Otherwise it can't really do much to Steels besides Dialga with Aura Sphere/Focus Blast.

The set for reference:

Skymin @ Leftovers

Seed Bomb
Substitute
Earth Power
Swords Dance

Ehh...I don't think this will work very well. Let's list the ubers shall we?

Mewtwo- Faster, Ice Beam, gg
Mew-???
Wobb-???
Lugia- Walls it completely
Ho-oh- Walls it ever more badly, if SR is not in play
Latias- Resists Ground/Grass. If you're Lonely you lose because she is faster. SDed LO Seed Bomb does 2HKO Latias with Hasty though, but you need max Attack or so
Latios- See Latias, except Latios can OHKO with Draco if you didn't Sub to protect yourself
Kyogre- Will beat you one on one if it has Ice Beam
Groudon- Can Stone Edge Skymin to death while Seed Bomb won't OHKO it. Defensive Groudons are 3HKOed by LO SB
Rayquaza- Sets up and just laughs
Deoxys- Go figure
Dialga- EP is a 3HKO, can Fire Blast Skymin, etc.
Palkia- Beats Skymin one on one
Giratina- Will absolutely murder Skymin, like Lugia, Ho-oh and Ray
Giratina-O- See Giratina
Darkrai- I guess Skymin can beat it one on one but certainly can't swap in
Manaphy- See Kyogre
Arceus- >_>

In other words, it's very gimmicky and really doesn't function well. Whatever you can stop with this set, you can stop with the Special or Subseeder sets.
