Reserving specs noivern

:ss/Noivern:
Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- U-turn

This Noivern is a check to Escavalier. It can try to come in since you can live one hit but without Roost its not going to do this through out of the match. Furthermore, if you get your Choice Specs knocked off Flamethrower doesn't OHKO anymore.
:Escavalier: --> :Noivern:
56+ Atk Escavalier Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 154-183 (49.5 - 58.8%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 116-137 (37.2 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 125-148 (40.1 - 47.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 77-91 (24.7 - 29.2%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO

:Noivern: --> :Escavalier:
252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Draco Meteor vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 111-131 (32.9 - 38.8%) -- 6.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Hurricane vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 187-222 (55.4 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Flamethrower vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 408-484 (121 - 143.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Noivern Flamethrower vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 272-324 (80.7 - 96.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

centiskorch

:centiskorch:
Centiskorch @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 96 Def / 160 Spe
Impish Nature
- Fire Lash
- Coil
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

this centiskorch-set checks escavalier as ecavalier can only use knock off on it and even then it wont do too much and centiskorch is also able
to use escavalier as set-up fodder for coil. rest is for longevity and sleep talk is for letting you dish out a move with fire lash, or use another coil for the set-up.
centiskorch is also able to come in multiple times on escavalier as none of its moves are super effective on it. furthermore centiskorch can
help against other teammates of escavalier after it had some prior-setups.

calcs:
252 Atk Centiskorch Fire Lash vs. 224 HP / 60 Def Escavalier: 436-516 (129.3 - 153.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

56+ Atk Escavalier Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 96+ Def Centiskorch: 72-86 (21.1 - 25.2%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 96+ Def Centiskorch: 108-128 (31.6 - 37.5%) -- 89.9% chance to 3HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 96+ Def Centiskorch: 118-139 (34.6 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 96+ Def Centiskorch: 79-93 (23.1 - 27.2%) -- 57.2% chance to 4HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 96+ Def Centiskorch: 72-85 (21.1 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Chandelure @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Psychic

Chandelure is a CHECK to escavalier. this needs to worry about knock off, but aside from that if escavalier is ever faced up versus chandalure, it's in a loosing situation. Will put more effort into this tomorrow.

Edit: way past tomorrow: totally forgot about this. sorry!

Submitting Darmanitan as a COUNTER:

1589338569230.gif

Darmanitan @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Toxic

Any viable Darmanitan set will always OHKO Escavalier. Darmanitan does not fear any of Escavalier’s attacks, because it can easily outspeed Escavalier and force it out. Don’t believe me? Here is some damage calcs:

252 Atk Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 224 HP / 60 Def Escavalier: 976-1152 (289.6 - 341.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Choice Band Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 224 HP / 60 Def Escavalier: 1456-1720 (432 - 510.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 224 HP / 60 Def Escavalier: 976-1152 (289.6 - 341.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Meanwhile, this Escavalier set only 2HKOs Darmanitan, but even then, Darmanitan will always force it out.

56+ Atk Escavalier Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Darmanitan: 208-245 (59.2 - 69.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Darmanitan doesn’t even need to worry about Knock Off, since it can still OHKO.

252 Atk Sheer Force Darmanitan Flare Blitz vs. 224 HP / 60 Def Escavalier: 976-1152 (289.6 - 341.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Just like Panther-T, let’s assume this is a 1v1: no teammates nor hazards. Darmanitan always beats Escavalier 1v1 due to the following factors:

1. Always outspeeds Escavalier
2. Can easily OHKO it with Flare Blitz

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Scald
- Toxic

Why would you use an Unaware user against a mon with no set-up moves? Because it takes every move from Esca, it doesn't get crippled by knock off unlike Choice/HDB users and threatens with burn or toxic in case of a switch. Being faster than Escavalier means you can recover safely. Nominating as a counter.

56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 154-183 (39 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Sorry for the delay! The hosts decided to take a sabbatical due to IRL reasons. The show must go on though!

Congratulations to Katy and Panther-T for winning with their submissions!

SUMMERHOUSE (Chandelure) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hex
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Protect

This set has recently picked up in tournament play to abuse the fat balance teams commonly seen in the metagame. Will you find a way around this the best players haven’t?

Keldeo and Pelliper are BANNED.

stay safe out there folks

ACAB

- faded

reserving lax

Snorlax @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 232 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Curse
- Body Slam
- Darkest Lariat

Fat sleepy boy. Flamethrower deals ~11% due to Thick Fat, you are immune to Hex and you can rest off Toxic when needed. Darkest Lariat 2HKOs Chandelure. Solid counter.

Snorlax becomes a threat to many teams thanks to Curse, and so this Chandelure turns into set up fodder for it. Seriously, just click Curse for a free win lmao.

barbaracle

:ss/Barbaracle:
Barbaracle @ Lum Berry
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Stone Edge
- Liquidation
- Earthquake

:barbaracle: is an offensive check to chandelure as it can come in on any attack as it quadresists flamethrower and due to the help of its lum berry
it gets healed when chandelure decides to poison it on the switch. barbaracle can use chandelure as a setup-fodder for its late game
shell smash sweep and barbaracle naturally threatens out chandelure due to 3 moves in its arsenal, which are all super effective on it.

calcs:

252 SpA Chandelure Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 45-53 (15.7 - 18.5%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Chandelure Hex (65 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Barbaracle: 132-156 (46.3 - 54.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 Atk Barbaracle Stone Edge vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 308-366 (117.5 - 139.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tough Claws Barbaracle Liquidation vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 342-404 (130.5 - 154.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Barbaracle Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 206-244 (78.6 - 93.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Incineroar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Counter
So you clearly counter Chandelure because you can rest off the Toxic and even x2 Hex doesn't do much

252 SpA Chandelure Hex (130 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Incineroar: 89-105 (22.6 - 26.7%) -- 25.5% chance to 4HKO after toxic damage

I'd use this set if you can't fit in Wish/Heal Bell support (Sylveon basically) on your team for whatever reason, maybe you opted for weezing as your fairy of choice and don't want to stack fairy Pokemon.

Besides Chandelure, this set helps beat Bronzong, Umbreon, opposing Incineroar, Roserade, really anything that can Toxic you. Ofc you lose breaking/sweeping potential with SD and you aren't a "pivot" anymore w/o U-Turn or Parting Shot, so it's not that easy to build with. It fits on defensive teams but defensive teams normally have Wish/Heal Bell anyways, so it's not easy. You resist fire unlike Umbreon.

Gigalith @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Toxic/Protect

Gigalith is a defensive check to Hex Chandelure:
  • In a pure 1v1, Gigalith beats Chandelure out w/ threat of Rock Blast OHKO
  • Sandstorm chip weakens non Lefties Chandelure to be more easily OHKO'd by Rock Blast
  • Can survive worst case scenario where Gigalith is hit with Toxic on switch-in
    • Turn 1: Badly Poisoned on switch-in.
    • Turn 2: Chandelure protects. Gigalith does no damage.
    • Turn 3: Chandelure uses Hex for a third of Gigalith's total health. Gigalith has greater than 90% chance of OHKO'ing Chandelure due to Sandstorm chip
  • Accrued damage over three turns:
    • Chandelure: (6.25 - 6.25)% + (12.5 - 6.25)% + [33.9, 40.3]% = [40.15, 46.55]%
    • Gigalith: 6.25% + 6.25% + [89.6 105.7]% = [102.1, 118.2]%
    • 0 Atk Gigalith Rock Blast (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 234-276 (89.6 - 105.7%) -- approx. 75% chance to OHKO after sandstorm damage
252 SpA Chandelure Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gigalith in Sand: 127-151 (33.9 - 40.3%) -- 37.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery and toxic damage
  • Not a counter because prior chip damage compromises Gigalith's ability to take 2x Hex hits
  • Set's ability to check other strong Special Attackers (Heliolisk, Toxtricity) and gel well with a number of balance staples (Sylveon, Mantine, etc.) speaks to Gigalith's viability in the UU metagame
