Xbox One

i concur. tablet interfaces aren't too bad [i'm not a particular fan, but eh], it's just that they used it for something that doesn't really appreciate that kind of interface - that is, something that isn't a touchscreen.

i got a laptop and tried to use windows 8 for a while, but i got annoyed at how it didn't flow as nicely as i liked and downloaded linux. much better. everything's totally free, so no paying for microsoft office or any of that bullshit [you get libre office which is basically the same thing - you can also save as a word document for the people with windows to read if you wish], and it's easily customisable to your liking.

[and it can emulate windows if you need it to]

but yeah if you don't like windows 8 or just windows in general i'd recommend linux. they're always updating it too [you're not forced to get the updates if you don't want to, though] so yeah, bugs don't usually stay for long.

Xbox One looks awful, I think I'll just stick to the PS4.

I'm going to miss the fuck out of Halo though. I doubt they will, but maybe they'll go PC as well as Xbox? (plz do dis 343i :( )

Contrary to what a lot of my friends think, I actually really like Halo 4 and think it's probably one of the best Halo games overall. I don't really like the reworked weapon distribution (finding the sniper rifle first in Halo 3's Sandtrap was always a bunch of fun) but everything else seemed like an improvement to me.

That said, Halo 5 will not be enough to convince me to buy an Xbox One. If they are stupid enough to make it One exclusive, then Microsoft will effectively be committing suicide with the franchise.
This is not necessarily true, Nintendo's strength and the whole reason it hasn't succumbed into being just a publisher is the strength of its first party titles imo, as much as the Wii U has suffered so far, Mario and friends will always keep people coming to it. If Microsoft keeps Halo exclusive and manages to build another one or two really strong ones, that's probably enough for it to at least keep its fanboys and attract some new ones.

More like, it was the strength of all their banked money from the DS and its Wii hardware sales.

Not to mention Microsoft's one franchise versus Nintendo, a company with enough unique franchises to literally fill a fighting game roster.

with nintendo's ips you also have to consider nostalgia. while it's true that halo is fairly old, mario was made in, what, the 80's? loz are classics, and pretty much everyone in the developed or semi-developed world knows who pikachu is. halo is a popular game, but a lot of nintendo ips are legendary. that status alone would probably carry them farther than halo.

I'd imagine that they mean permanently banned, because that would prevent you from getting online.

But yeah even as an Xbox fan that really sucks.

I just got perm banned on Monday so this is WONDERFUL news.

anyone here know what can cause you to be banned from xbox live?

Cheating, modding, inappropriate game play, system abuse, attempting to receive information from other players and abusing the message system. There's more but these generally give you a perm ban > timed suspension. I got into a MW2 hacked lobby a few weeks ago, and apparently if you don't leave within 60 seconds you risk getting a permanent ban. Out of all the people I was in that lobby with, I was the only to receive a 9999 ban. I tried explaining this to the enforcement team on the forums (since that's the only way you can contact them) and they didn't care. They said my ban is justified, even though I've never been suspended in the past.

5 years of XBL + tons of money spent on games, now wasted. Obviously they lost a customer, but it's not like they could give a shit about me.

I'm lucky, I've intentionally gotten into modded lobbies on several gamertags and I've never been banned :)

From what I was told, the complaint system is pretty flawed. I watched the video that Xbox put out to explain it, and even though on paper it seems solid, it doesn't work as advertised. What happens is that all of the complaints are compiled on your account, all of which could take up to a month to review. If they find anything at all that violate the COC or ToU, you're screwed. Xbox is notorious for their giant ban waves during the summer and winter, so I guess I was caught up in the summer one? And getting a ban reversed has almost a 0% chance of going through. Especially if it was during one of their ban waves, because "they don't issue bans without serious consequences or proof".

lololol would be interesting

NO OUR TWITTER WAS HACKED BY SONY AND THEY BEAT UP OUR REAL REPRESENTATIVE AND PUT HIM IN A TRASHCAN AT E3 IN REALITY XBOX ONE IS NOTHING LIKE THAT

kinda reminds me of those people who blame their stupid posts on their 'brother/aunt/overly obsessive girlfriend/etc hacking their account'
