The Everything MLB Thread

Jackal, Toronto is the team I always root to win the AL East (or at least have for several years!). They always seem so full of potential then blow things :( I think part of it must be that playing in the shadow of both the Yankees and Red Sox year after year gets pretty taxing on players. Hopefully next year will see a Rangers/Twins/Tigers/Blue Jays playoffs haha

what a terrible return, sucks to be a twin right now.

at least hes not in our league anymore !!

im from toronto (whitby if anyone knows where that is) and i am an avid jays fan. i agree with you kirby, playing with yankees and red sox gets taxing on the players. even wen the jays are good, the redsox and yankees are always better because they spend 60% more. the playoff picture this year will be redsox/tigers/mariners/yankees

Sorry to double post, but JOHAN SANTANA TO THE NEW YORK METS
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3220894

:(

I'm a big Johan Santana fan, and I'm not too happy with him being traded, especially for nothing but prospects, but at least he didn't go into the hands of the American League East. Huge Red Sox fan, and huge anti-Yankee here, but I didn't want him to go to either team, because Red Sox could of possibly broke the single season wins record if they had him, and the Yankees would immediately turn from ok to amazing!

Who knows if this is a great deal for the Twins. I think the Twins may now have the best farm system in baseball, not to mention they acquired the hot young star Delmon Young in this off season. I still feel like the Twins could be a top contending team, but maybe not this year.

I was hoping Santana would go to the Yankees. Now, I think in 2 or 3 years, the yanks will have the best rotation in baseball with Joba, Philip, Chien, and Ian.

stupid aamto I hate you so much

I think the Yankees not shipping off prospects for him shows a maturity with trying to stick with the farm system (although I have not paid much attention to baseball trades or free agent signings the last few years, so I have no idea if they shipped off prospects for something else)

Man i was surprised when i heard that the deal was that much. Any way as a yankee fan, i'm very happy with the deal because if he wasn't going to the mets he would go to boston. And if Santana went to boston would win series for the next 3 years.

I'm pretty happy he didn't go to the Sox, more chance for a Subway World Series now with such a great addition to the Mets. I really expect Johan to put up even better numbers than when he was in Minnesota. Pitcher's ballpark, no DH, and a weak hitting division, you could almost predict 25 wins and a sub 2.00 ERA.

While a part of me would have wanted Johan as a Yankee, but looking at his contract, Arod and Johan would be paid almost 60 million together in a few years, not very good fiscal strategy. Not to mention Joba, Phil, and Ian will be great pitchers themselves but also a whole lot cheaper than Johan. They aren't dominating, and they might never be, but the massive salary proves that you can't always have the best.

I also find it kind of funny that the 4 players the Mets traded wouldn't even be in the Top 10 prospects list of the Yankees and Sox. I really think the Twins got kind of ripped off here, but it their own fault for wanting so much from other teams that they had to settle for mediocre players.

^Well, they wanted so much, because Santana, is only THE BEST PITCHER IN BASEBALL!!! He has been far and beyond the best pitcher in baseball in the last 4 years. No one has even been close to dominance like he has!! So of course they wanted a whole bunch for him, but the Yankess were too stubborn to give-up one of their top pitching prospects for him; and they are idiots for not even bringing them-up in discussion!

A fair offer for Santana would be the opposing team's best pitching prospect, a top 3 prospect in the outfield, and a mid-level prospect. He's that good, and sadly, the Mets traded for less than that! Johan's only 27!!! He's not exactly 'old' either!

Dammit, my team has ZERO going for it. They had to trade Santana for four nobodies, didn't they? They made a terrible deal, but at least he's in the National League.

Sort of reminds me of those darn cowboys.

Anyways my prediction for the series is gonna be Angels Vs the upstart Milwaukee Brewers. Im not even a Brewers fan tbh im a cards fan but i really like their offense.

Also Minnesota fans (lol) seriosuly all of your players go to the north east, ALL OF THEM. Moss, hunter, now santana and tons others that i forget because i don;t follow minnesota at all.

As a mets fan I have to say, I have no idea how we got Johan for two pitchers who will be at best 3-5 spot starters, a super athletic but baseball retarded center fielder and a really young pitcher who might be ready to start/relieve in three years. Shit we didn't even have to cough up Fernando Martinez, our best prospect.

Opening Day moved up a week so that it could happen in Japan!

"If you drafted Daisuke Matsuzaka for your fantasy team, you probably don't want to see his third pitch of the season (spoiler alert: it was a home run to Mark Ellis). Or the walk he followed it up with. Or how he managed to follow that by hitting Jack Cust in the foot. Or the wild pitch after that. Or the walk after that. Or the RBI groundout to Bobby Crosby, who's hitting .228 for the past two years, as play-by-play man Gary Thorne reminded everyone. A 32-pitch effort in the end. Welcome home, Daisuke." (I loled)

Glad to see the baseball support is back!

Of course, I gotta root for my three teams, Red Sox, Twins, and Reds. I can see the Red Sox making it this year (well, they can every year at this point), but the Twins and Reds are uncertain. True, the Reds play in the weakest division in baseball, but I think their talent in the farm system needs one more year of improvement in their pitching to become contenders. If they do make it, they'll probably get it with an 85 win record and only by a one game margin against the Cubs or Cardinals. And same goes for the Twins. The loss of Santana hurts too much, especially with Francisco Liriano not coming back until the middle of the season. Too much undeveloped young talent for them to be effective against the Tigers and the Indians in their division.

Lets say we make some divisional winners and wild card picks right now. Start of season, subject to change at All-Star Break.

National League:
East: Mets
Central: Cubs
West: Rockies
Wild Card: Padres

American League:
East: Red Sox
Central: Tigers
West: Angels
Wild Card: Indians

How exactly can you claim three teams? %_%

Jim Thome with two two run HRs off Sabitha is my favorite moment of today so far (SCREW YOU FOR DRAFTING HIM A PICK BEFORE ME WHOEVER DID THAT IN SMOGON LEAGUE!!!! >:OOOOOOOOO my dugout team was besmirched :'()

Kansas City leading the Tigers 5-4 in the top of the 11th is also great ;D (even though I picked the Tigers to win the league this year).

toronto blue jays baseball commences tomorrow I am so pumped!

McGowan for Cy young, halladay runner up!!!!!!!!!!

Oh boy Opening Fucking Day!!! Well kinda...

I watched Nats v. Braves last night, the new Nationals Stadium looks fucking awesome. That game was great, walk off home run in the brand new park!

Today I tried to watch Yankees v. Jays, unfortunately rained out. ESPN had Detroit v. Kansas City instead. The game was okay Gil Meche pitched wayyyy better then Verlander.

After that Dodger v. Giants, the Giants really really really suck. Brad Penny dominated them big time. 5-0.

Now it's Angels v. Twins, then game is good, I can't wait for tonights late game. Padres v. Astros, Peavy v. Oswalt, you really can't ask for a better pitching match up.

Johan Santana dominated the Marlins. Couldn't have made me happier.

So stoked on opening day...

The Nationals lead the league! I never thought I would see that headline.

Santana is going to have a 2.5 ERA this year he is in the NL ;____; my poor Twins!
