Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Last few times I played, I tried Yorick out. REALLY easy to play, pushes like a boss, and can tank reasonably well (this is normal que, mind you), and using that ultimate on a farmed/fed carry is devastating in team fights. Even if they get focused down, you still have a chance since they get brought back for a short amount of time. It's disappointing how he's underrated overall, but in ranked I can understand where he falls short (he's mediocre in pretty much everything he does other than sustaining in lane and pushing, but there are champions who do those better as well).
You guys will have to tell me how Dominions is; so far it looks like I won't be able to play from my college dorm. Did any of you guys play in dorms, or was it mostly from home?
No they didn't... they're hitting Jax's early game base damage on Leap Strike + Empowered because too many idiots are whining, getting 3 shot in solo queue. They aren't doing anything to hit his mid / late game prowess, which is what HotShotGG / chaox demonstrated during this tournament.
early core would be: merc treads/wriggles/giants belt
then you'll try to get early warmogs/trinity force/atmas/force of nature
late game you can trade wriggles for bloodthirster
other offensive options are cleaver/last whisper/yomuu's
other defensive options are banshees/ early heart of gold -> randuin's
EDIT: also how many of you all written guides before? I know jebus and thorns has but wondering if there's any more. i feel like writing a guide for my friends but i really cbb
I only needed to play Skarner once to realize that not seeing him for the two weeks he was out was very weird. Now I'm seeing no end to people who think he is underrated and they always miss the point; Skarner is hands down the best user of Trinity Force in the game, and you can mathematically prove this.
General Trinity Force Champions:
Blitzcrank
118 Base AD
Lowest CD 5
Irelia
112 Base AD
Lowest CD 6
Doesn't need AP
Jarvan IV
111 Base AD
Lowest CD 6
Doesn't need AP
Lee Sin
113 Base AD
Effective Lowest CD 3
Doesn't need AP
Nasus
116 Base AD
Lowest CD 4
Doesn't need AP
Maokai
117 Base AD
Lowest CD 6
Poppy
117 Base AD
Lowest CD 4
Trundle
108 Base AD
Lowest CD 4
Doesn't need AP
Udyr
110 Base AD
Effective Lowest CD 1.5
Doesn't need AP
Vayne
108 Base AD
Lowest CD 2
Doesn't use AP
Wukong
111 Base AD
Lowest CD 5
Doesn't need AP
Yorick
114 Base AD
Lowest CD 5
Doesn't need AP
Skarner
130 Base AD
Effective Lowest CD <2
Skarner has 12 more Base AD than his nearest competitor, procs Trinity as often as Udyr and Vayne, and likes AP as much as Poppy. At 130 Base AD, Trinity Force bumps that up to 355 AD every 2 seconds. That's like having 2.8 Infinity Edges for only 200 more gold, plus movespeed, crit chance, attack speed, health, mana, AP, and a chance to slow.
Trinity Force is all Skarner needs to do his maximum damage output. He doesn't need a GP10, he doesn't need Tear (Don't spam if you can't kill!). From Trinity Force, he can build straight tank.
Now I'm not saying he is OP. There are better junglers and Bruiser is a pretty contested role for laning. Some characters do sustain better than Skarner, but with Sheen (and no reason not rush it) all it takes is one mistake for Skarner to get first blood. Skarner is a late game champion whose late game comes earlier than any others. That's his niche.
Trinity Force vs. Lich Bane
Trinity Force gives 225 AD so in order for Lich Bane to outclass it, you need 225 AP. That's not hard it takes much longer and at that point you've deviated from Skarner's niche, and that's reaching his late game damage faster than any other champion. Plus with the number of AP items you need to fuel Lich Bane, you're giving up more item slots for pure tank items. Also by losing the attack speed of Trinity Force, you raise your effective CD. Rabadon + Lich Bane may end up doing a bit more damage, but that costs 7670 gold which as a late game gold horizon is average and not amazing.
veigar is a god tier troll. his E alone puts him into that category, but he rivals singed with his ult. 2day i skillshotted/predicted a bush juke with w, then finished with q (vs a shen)
Then an AP soraka decided it wanted to go 14/7. #1 trap her #2 ult her #3 shes dead already GG. Then she decided to build MR shit nigga im ahead of you i got a void staff.
Veigar, Singed, AP mushroom Teemo. trollers to da max
I've been playing Teemo recently. He's fun. Singed as well. Using E to chuck enemy champs at the turret is awesome.
With Teemo I have the problem of dying too easily because no one knows how to tank. With Singed I have the problem of people running away and leaving me 1v5.
typically you don't want energy regen because the difference is very negligible compared to the base energy regen of the 4 or 5 champs who use that system
what's better are flat or scaling energy glyphs, which for some champions allow you to get full combos off faster than you normally would be able to with only 200 base energy.
I've been playing Singed a lot too, and he is by the far the guy I do best with. In my last 5 games I went 5/1/2, 2/3/14, 11/6/14, 11/0/10, and 12/10/24. There's just something awesome about being able to run around a teamfight, poison everyone, have them focus you, and then Cleanse + Ghost + Ult out and then be able to walk back in a few seconds later and pick off/ chase the weak guys.
Shen would be the only Champ to use Energy Regen rune effectively IMO. Stacking Cooldown, Energy Regen, and AP would be ideal for Shen IMO but thats a waste of ~8000IP imo.
