I think this worked, though on my screen it says the image is not working.......

Yay i got it working, so this is the stuff i have done so far, following Laylell's map as close as i could work it out to. Obviously it is not done, but hopefully i have conveyed the theme of it, to those who new Fairfax they should be proud of me that there is colors other than grey. Ah the only thing that isnt in this image is the nether island (gives a point to the docks) which is about 60 blocks offshore, and there is a ravine about 50 blocks to the left of the cactus farm. But i like the mountains in the background, this seed is nice.

GUYS GUYS GUYS

Are we doing crosses again I remember discussing on IRC that how it could have been cool if we did something different but we need ideas...

Also, wolf it's looking good, but with all the buildings we want to fit in, we might have to make it bigger. Still a lot of gray, but it still looks great! Also lets not make it in a swamp though, the 1.9 swamp water is all yucky and gross.

Yeah, i now see how the swamp will be bad, everything has fit, will post the final shots this afternoon, but it will need to be made bigger than what it is now, it is a mighty bit cramped. And i have a project that will take a couple of days but it is a proposed memorial kinda cross thing.

OK, done. i don't care if people don't like it i just wanted to contribute to the planning of our new mega spawn. From what i have made ( it needs to be bigger) but for the plans and stuff that i have seen so far, this would look best as a sprawling metropolis, other wise it looks weird. Well after this post, i have an English assignment to do which means......Facebook time. Comment plz guys, i know its grey, but there is nothing else apart from wood to use, and i don't really like wood buildings, i know it needs more refine but this is my idea 1. ( Note that buildings have not been furnished)

No, I legitimately think it looks great. I really like the center piece, it looks great to me. The fact that all the buildings are on the "second floor" of it is kinda cool and I think it can add some cool options.

Anyone else have some opinions? We don't have to take this plan exactly maybe combine the architecture of Buffalo's buildings with the infrastructure of Wolf's. RG is our resident favorite builder so if he would like to design some buildings or anything of the sort.

What does everyone else think?

my only gripe is that the arches aren't as "arched" as i expected. I'll mock up some pictures of what i mean right now.

edit: i agree that i like the infrastructure design, ESP the dual tiered arches, but the architecture is somewhat bland. it's solid but not very... interesting. all the buildings are quite square and uniform.

Cheers Xaq, the reason the arches arent arched tennisace is that to get the "arched" they have to be huge, and the whole, second floor of the walkway wouldn't work. ( Did you spot the SMOGON, on the cliff behind the town, it will be a memorial park when i am done with it.

Agreed that, they are square and uniform, but from what i picked up in the previous pages of posts, was that we wanted a sprawling metrolpolis, i do agree that some different shaped and designs would be nice, but as i said this is the first one, just to get the rough idea, this whole designing a town will take ages, not only in designing, but with getting materials and building this stuff.

Well it looks like the walkway is only 2 blocks high, which is cramped anyway. 3 block high is pretty standard, and gives the arches more of an arch look.

I was thinking spawn would be on a much larger scale anyway. Here's some mock ups: http://imgur.com/a/yiwvS

essentially: the arches would cover the walkway, kind of like this:

The only difference is that i pictured the arches going the opposite way, as i built them.

I also made a building for a style reference, i like the look of stone brick + planks + wood + bricks

I like what wolf has done and tennisace has some good stuff too. A big thing I'd like to see is that the design/materials of the buildings reflect it's purpose

Being able to tell by design is quite useful and for new people it helps so they can see what they have and haven't seen

I tend to build with these guidelines in mind (remember limits build creativity)

Building: Enchantment and Potion Room
Outside Primary Block: Stone Brick
Outside Secondary: Obsidian
Floor: Purple wool and lapis
Scenic: Bookshelves and enchantment table/potions
Lighting: Glowstone
Shape: Triangular shapes when possible

Tree farm: Some fence with glass panel greenhouse style. Glowstone to limit tree height and stone slabs in indicate tree spots. Will probably have glowstone on floor instead of grass and torches

Furnace: Same as picture

Shroom and Flower: I really liked the pine logs and wood blocks from the original server perhaps with a flower pattern like the 1st 1.8 interm.

Snow man: Snow and orange wool if there is anything else. Maybe some teal wool also for comparison. Floor should not be white.

Plant Farm: Just fences and wood planks, green wool for “grass” so mobs don’t accidently spawn. Stone Brick for vines.

Nether: Netherrack, cobble and Nether brick.

Cactus farm: Sandstone and green wool.

Hotel: Wood and sand blooper bay style.

Animal farm: Red and white wool farm barn style.

Railway: I just really liked the cart on the top of the New Haven rail station. That should be on this one too.

Personally i dont like you arches tennisace, your buildings are nice, i get where you are coming from about the arches being small. And i get the uniform and bland this aswell. It needs refining. Laylell, i will come up with some designs for what you were saying, i get what you mean, i didnt do every building differently because when i think spawn city and houses everywhere i think of everything in the same theme.

Haha nice map Wolf, I like the "SMOGON" carved into the mountain there too : )

I'd like to take a crack at this later...

Cheers, for the feedback guys. Scampy, that SMOGON took far too lang to make, damn letters. Well all you guys/girls can have fun making your versions now, that is my input for the week, now i have to do an english essay, 1500 words comparing two books...... yeah......i hate english

Looks great, I just echo other people's comments about making it bigger/grander. the docks, particularly, need to bigger in order to accommodate both boats and bigger ships people want to build.

Can I also make a suggestion that we ban people building stupid floating shit (or at least limit it to cool things) near spawn? Having a proper looking city is far more impressive than having twenty ladders that go up to a platform at the height limit.

Been working on the arches for spawn!

If someone could link me to some flat maps that I can use in creative mode, I will happily contribute my own ideas for spawn.

I dunno, as conceptually the houses are out of the city itself, don't see any need to restrict creativity...

Besides, I find half-chopped trees and holes in the ground that the digger was too lazy to at least indicate or cover the top of far more annoying; I swear if I fall into someone elses unmarked hole again, I'm taking a pickaxe and shovel and covering/filling it. I know we live in part on a ravine, but still, seriously...
