Despite Barcelona's 'domination' I'm of the opinion that it was a truly class defensive display from Chelsea. Manchester United and Inter Milan have managed to do that to Barcelona before, but at least managed to create more chances and hold onto the ball more. If you can stay organised and have a bit of luck, it's very possible to beat Barca and that is exactly what Chelsea did.

This was my expression to my previous post, you just put the right words in the right place. Agreed 100%.

One source of encouragement ahead of the second leg is that our away form has been consistently better than our home form in recent years(probably the reason why we outperformed the Manchester clubs in Europe).I really doubt we can stop Barca from scoring at Camp Nou but they shouldn't be able to score more than 2 if we defend well. That being said it is imperative that we score atleast one goal so it will be interesting to see who Di Matteo starts with. He'll probably play it safe and start with Drogba unless Torres scores a goal or two vs Arsenal(Di matteo said he's gonna rotate following this busy week of fixtures and Torres will most likely start on Saturday).

The Arsenal line-up is going to be really predictable: Szczesny; Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Santos; Song, Rosicky, Ramsey; Walcott, Van Persie, Gervinho.

Mainly cos Wenger doesn't have a choice cos Arteta is out for the rest of the season and Benayoun is ineligible. The only choice he has is Ox or Gervinho and I think he'll start with experience.

Also is it too early to start picking player/team of the season yet? :D

not as impressive when you say it after the match chris ^_~
Haha, I did say it before the match.. Just not on Smogon :(

There's my post on the Man Utd forum :p

As for Chelsea, I was talking to a few guys and one of my bosses at work. Me and one friend said 1-0 Chelsea, the other guy said 0-1 Barca and my boss said 1-1. They suck :D

His brother put a tenner on Chelsea to win 2-0, as the odds were good at 26/1.. Chelsea were a bit too negative for the second goal though xD

seems like a very dodgy case.

90% of women lie in cases with rape (especially one involving a footballer) and as always the black guy gets away with it (no racist :jump:).

lol those black guys always getting away with stuff; and those women always complaining about being raped...

In fairness it's not beyond the realm of belief that the woman could be sensationalising but getting some bloke 5 years in jail is pretty serious so I'd love to see some evidence why you think that Nosferalto?

Not to open a can of worms but if you actually read into the case there is absolutely no reason that the other guy should not be locked up either,if the judge rules that one wasn't guilty and it was consensual then how can the other be sent down for the exact same thing, either both are guilty or they are not, it is not as cut and dry as you all make it.

Hmn. I'll leave you guys to discuss this matter.

I don't reckon I'll get another chance to post this before I leave at 1:30pm, so I am going to home game against Swansea. 'tis a must win. If we don't then I may be (sticking to my word and) leaving these forums pretty soon...

you're not a douche now so i don't think any of us will be holding you to your word anymore (not gonna lie though, I had print screened it and planned a big 'nanananananana goodbye Bartman' thread).

also just learned that if chelsea win the champions league, fourth-place in the premiership will no longer qualify for the CL.

hope you're watching, spurs fans, because i sure as hell am. :x

so anyway, Stoke today - it's the only fixture in our run-in that I'm fairly confident about. We beat them 3-1 at the Brittania so the home fixture is certainly winnable. Thinking 2-0. After today, it's Chelsea and then Man City followed by a tricky trip to Goodison on the final day so we really need to pick up the points here.

How does that make sense? If an English team win the Champions League, shouldn't their ranking (or however they calculate it) go up? I remember hearing earlier in the season that if Chelsea didn't quality for the Quarterfinals then England would drop below Germany and therefore have 3 spots rather than 4.

Its because they finish outside the top 4, but Chelsea still qualify by being winners. England still only have 4 spots for teams, so only the top 3 can qualify.

A few years ago when Liverpool won the CL but finished outside the qualification places UEFA let 5 teams in as there wasn't a precedent, but as far as I know thats been changed.

Yeah what Django said. 4th place are at risk if Chelsea win the CL and finish below 4th.

@Dubby: That's not true, England's co-efficient is so high that we'd have to do terribly for a few years before we start giving up any of our 4 CL places.

Yeah, I believe the "three or four" teams thing was between Germany and Italy. Spain and England are way too far ahead.

In other news, Chelsea are by far the better team against Arsenal. However, they've literally given up their goal-threat by leaving out Mata and Lampard, along with the Drogba injury. They'll probably have to bring one of those two players on to score and they really should do. I think this is a game Chelsea need to win if they want to actually finish in the top 4.

I don't think Lee means that only 3 teams from the league qualify, just that Chelsea will qualify instead of whoever comes 4th this season...

Arsenal-Chelsea has been a bore, hoping El Clasico tonight will be a bit better.

I didn't watch much of the Arsenal game. Started watching in the second half and then had to go out. 0-0 isn't a 'bad' result. I would have liked us to win but at least it puts the pressure on Newcastle and Tottenham now to win their two games in hand to draw level with us. I feel bad for Walcott now he's injured again, I think he really wanted to go to the Euros after being left out for the World Cup last time. Ah well, hopefully Arsenal pull up their socks now and win the last 3 games. If we don't win our next game then the doubts will come rushing back!

Word has it Madrid will line up something like this today:

Benzema/Higuain
Ronaldo ------------------ Di Maria
