This really changes things. Now there's no need to train for Double Cup. Now it seems I'll need both HeartGold and SoulSilver. Lv. 50 ruined my plans of RNGing the weather ubers in Emerald. I'm assuming Mewtwo, Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza are at level 50 or below, otherwise we'll need Ruby and Sapphire for Groudon/Kyogre, and Mewtwo and Rayquaza will be unobtainable at Lv. 50.

So it's only ubers? Wow this really changed the vgc... But it should be easier to win since most people are noobs with ubers :D

Scarf Kyogre + Orb Kingdra + Specs Palkia + LOers Vaporeon= boring easy win

...snore...

:(

How can this be fun?

If this is true, Follow Me + SD Rayquaza will truly be something, shutting down opposing weather.

Eh, I would have preferred non-legendaries seeing as I just got comfortable to the format of the VGC, but who knows what will happen. Maybe this'll be a good thing.

You have to remember that the opponent is using ubers too.

Using a rain team based around scarf Kyogre doesn't mean an easy win: just like almost anything else, it's entirely counterable. A Groudon lead for example would completely screw you over, and Rayquaza will definitely throw a spanner in the works. While it is a pretty imbalanced metagame, the underlying way to win in this JAA-style VGC is to be prepared for anything or at least as much as possible. Scarf Kyogre may thrash the noobs, but come up against someone who knows what they're doing and the common strategies will crumble.

Yeah, there will still be work you have to do in order to win. It's just that you'll have more options availabe (and to consider as well) when battling. :P

Yeah I see what you're saying, but while adding uubers does increase your options in one sense it seems to make other options almost completely impractical or unusable, like pokes with lower base stats, due to the overall enormous stats of these new uubers. I guess I'll just have to adjust thats all.

Oh, and you're right about kingdra + kyogre not being unstopable, but it just seems like another "cheap" combo (like Smeargle + Dusk/Bronz) that eeeeeeveryone will absolutely have to waste space countering if they dont want to get steamrolled. I just feel that when a certain type of team/combo is that effective it just sucks the fun and creativity out of developing your own team. Either people will run that team, or they will be forced to work a counter strategy into their team when they could have put something fun or creative there. It's not that I think TR or RD are "cheap or bad" necisarily, they're just so effective that you are forced to alter any team idea because of them. :/

Oh yeah, a lot of pokemon that were semi-usable in VGC will probably not have much of a shot now, because they simply either lack the sizeable power or they lack the defenses to survive an uber onslaught. :( I am predicting a rise in power teams for the first few months after HG/SS come out in the VGC area.

edit = lol yeah viper, I'd like to also. >_> Stupid lottery system. I think that Japan is having a preregistration system, and if there is more than _____ amount of players they go to a lottery. Check it out here: http://translate.google.com/transla...t/e090710_09.html&sl=ja&tl=en&history_state0=
i seriously hope they use that system for all the competing countries. And hopefully stop entries at 256 rather than 128...
Also as a side note what are everyones thoughts on garchomp? Since it's near uber statwise...

I can see the metagame being pretty much wrapped up in those 9 new ubers and Kingdra, lol. Though I wouldn't use Kingdra seeing as he gets stopped dead by Rayquaza.

This new team idea I have seems pretty good anyway, and is unlike anything mentioned so far. Not mentioning it in case it becomes standard and people know how to counter it. :P

And yeah I really hope it's preregistration also. I feel for those 4 unlucky buggers at London. Must hurt a lot lol. Plus the hundreds who didn't get in at the US stops. It'd be even better if the UK had more than one stop, though- Manchester would be great, unlike London where I had to spend the weekend down there and stay in a hotel.

I wonder if level 1 smeargle still works however... does rayquaza's air lock also stop trick room and gravity?

Hmmmm... Lv. 50 effectively cuts BoomMewtwo from the tournament. Platinum Dialgas/Palkia are banned, so whoever wants to RNG one needs a D/P (We don't know how HG/SS RNG will work). Scarf Kyogre can die to TrickScarfExplodeGengar. Rain Teams have a hard time against Thunderbolt Rayquaza, but remember that Rain Teams carry Ice Beam. In JAA, Ludicolo+Kyogre was a commonly used lead.

Im still wondering if obi-mode smeargle works.... here's the set that i got from skarmbliss.com
Smeargle @ Salac Berry
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Endeavor
- Endure
- Spore
- Extremespeed

It apparently is true, most legendaries will be allowed in WCS2010. They are going back to a JAA style of play apparently(except lv. 50 instead of lv. 100). I had known HG/SS was required for competition about a month ago by perusing some of my Japanese sources, but I had no idea that they would make it like JAA with most ubers allowed.

Well, this really changes things now doesn't it? :P
Expect to see a lot of battles come down to whoever's 0-speed IV -Speed nature Groudon/Kyogre loses the opening speed tie, and thus gets its own weather in effect over the opponent's, then.

I'm sorry, but that just sounds so boring. :/

Ha! A funny question for those traveling to Worlds! XD

How much are you packing? I managed to fit 4 complete sets of clothes (that's 4 denim jeans with 2 shirts each and...you know the rest ;D ), toiletries, 2 wiimotes, and 2 GC controlers into 1 small 16X10X9 duffle bag. It looks like it's going to pop, but oh well! XD

How bout the rest?

You could always use something different, like a follow me Togekiss and SD Rayquaza setup. :P

Gets messed up by multi-hit moves though.

Either way, Kyogre and Groudon will rule VGC 2010 and there's not much we can do other than think outside the box and come up with something different. And the winner will be someone who does that.

Like maybe having one of those pokes that cancel weather as a starter? Hmmm....

Anyone else packing light for Worlds? XD

Real champions roll with just a backpack. Just like Nationals. One man, one backpack, one goal.

We could always try Hail teams. Sure, Abomasnow will get beaten by Fire Punch Groudon/Fire Blast Ho-oh, but Aboma is slow than the Weather ubers, thus stopping their weather efforts. Aboma/Lugia/Snolax/Filler might do some damage, or maybe not...
