Welcome to the Pure Hackmons Viability Rankings. This is one of the many resources made to help players determine what can be considered viable in the metagame. These rankings are placed in alphabetical order. Anyone is free to put their thoughts on any Pokémon and debate on whether or not they need a rank change as long as they are reasonable. Provide clear evidence for reasons why a Pokémon should have a change in rank, and be civil about it. We want what we can believe to be closer to fact than subjective opinions.

However, the main strategy of a Pure Fire-type Pokemon with Wonder Guard is to utilize the move Burn Up, a move that removes a Pokemon's Fire-type after successfully hitting. With many viable Wonder Guards in the metagame, these types of Pokemon should find it hard to be able to successfully hit an attack, and even if they do, they can still be forced to switch either by phazing or by matchup, causing them to have to redo their main strategy. It is also worth noting that the ability of Wonder Guards to carry four moves in this metagame is a gift. Most of them use their four moves in order to support, recover themselves, boost stats, inflict status, and/or throw hazards. Their type combination is good enough to handle on their own without the absolute need to provide a move to get rid of their type. Pure Fire-type Pokemon who follow the Burn Up strategy can also struggle more heavily against Mold Breaker/Turboblaze/Teravolt Pokemon or Pokemon that have Photon Geyser or Moongeist Beam, making the entire point of the strategy lose any value it had.

Hey folks! It took some time and a lot of consideration but we've been moving out of a mostly speculative phase over the past year and I've decided to completely revamp the Gen 7 Hackmons VR based on what we've been seeing go on. I've also reset roster of council staff so I'm the only one again.

VR looking good so far imo. There are a few i would like changed however (I would put sprites in but I just cba).

Diancie-Mega -> A-

FakeSpeed is, like, good. It nabs kills against annoying sashes if sustaining rocks are just too much effort, and it can check Deo-S/Other No Guard shmucks with ease. FakeSpeed combos means the opponent has no chance to recover anything before they get killed, and there's a vast number of Pokemon which can be defeated by this one set. I won't post an importable but I'll just talk about potential ways to check Pokemon here. (I have other sets but I would prefer to keep them as suprises ;)

Not a win ;)

That's still a good amount of the VR it can check. One of my favourite things about Diancie is carrying Pursuit just when MMX or Ash-Gren switches out.

I didn't talk about my other set which someone has probs made before but it checks a lot more.

This argument was poorly reasoned but I'm sure someone can phrase it better *cough* manu 11 *cough*

:necrozma-dawn-wings: Echo of Lunala

Lunala is better than Necrozma-Dawn-Wings in pretty much every way. This is because there are three roles I've seen Lunala do: No Guard, Innards Out, or as a general Choice Scarf user. Lunala has higher Speed than Necrozma-Dawn-Wings, which is critical: its speed tier allows it to outspeed base 80's, 85's, and 90's such as Primal Groudon, Hoopa-Unbound, Giratina, Mega Gyarados, Zygarde-Complete, Articuno, and Alolan Raticate, allowing it to easily set up on all of these foes. These are all common and you will likely see one on the opponent's team, giving Lunala a big edge in the role. As an Innards Out, it has much higher HP than Necrozma-Dawn-Wings. This lets it beat Mega Mewtwo X, something very big, as well as Xerneas, Yveltal, Cresselia, and Alolan Muk. These are very nice qualities to have especially considering that Yveltal and Cresselia have been on the rise. As a Choice Scarfer, it has the ability to outspeed Jolly base 150's with a Modest nature, while Necrozma-Dawn-Wings cannot reach this benchmark even with a Timid nature. This allows it to revenge kill Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Alakazam, and Deoxys-Attack. Overall, I believe that Lunala is much better than Necrozma-Dawn-Wings and so Necrozma-Dawn-Wings should become an Echo.

:diancie-mega: to C (Wonder Guard)

Mega Diancie is pretty much a worse Xerneas and like it does everything worse. It has absolutely 0 defensive utility, sporting absolutely no moldy move resists as well as a Fissure weakness. Xerneas also doesn't resist any moldy moves but it has no Fissure weakness and has the natural bulk to tank hits. Diancie has neither of these. Of course, Diancie's purpose is to be a Wonder Guard Shell Smash user. The problem is that it is, again, worse than Xerneas in every way even offensively, because despite its higher offenses and higher speed it also literally cannot switch in to anything alongside its terrible defensive utility. Maybe this will come as a surprise factor because of Pixilate but I don't get it. Mega Diancie should be C.

I am submitting both of these teams as Gen 3 Samples.

Choice Band Dugtrio is an excellent lead due to its ability to immediately eliminate the opposing lead. Latias and Latios will usually not switch out due to EncoreTaunt Dugtrio not threatening them and their ability to switch out but an Explosion OHKOs both of them. Skarmory is an amazing physical wall, able to wall every single physical threat in the metagame with ease. It also forms a popular defensive core with Kyogre known as SkarmOgre. Latias is an essential part of the offensive and defensive core. Offensively, it is an incredibly bulky sweeper that takes down fat teams with ease. Defensively, it provides a switchin to Raikou, Zapdos, Thunder Kyogre, mixed Groudon, and generally is there for the ability to take Electric-type attacks. Banette provides a sleep immunity but even more crucial is a Ghost-type, providing a switch-in to Explosion Deoxys-Attack threatening to end Latias's sweep. Kyogre forms the other half of the SkarmOgre core and is a very good special wall, though it isn't as good as Skarmory because both of its weaknesses are Special, allowing some Special attackers to capitalize on it. Still, Grass and Electric are rare offensive types. Kingdra takes on Kyogre and BoltBeam Latias and Latios well, being able to switch into them with little risk. Kingdra is the fastest viable Swift Swimmer and therefore takes on other rain extremely well coupled with the fact that it has Spore to abuse Latias and Latios.

- Flamethrower
- Taunt
- Baton Pass

Baton Pass is a consistent strategy this generation due to Taunt. Taunt cannot be blocked, allowing status moves to be shut down entirely when you rack up speed boosts with Ninjask. This eliminates most means of defeating Baton Pass. Lugia has a very large Substitute and this keeps the whole team safe. It is crucial to always make sure the opponent is Taunted. If they are not, use Taunt again. Groudon is on the team because it resists Rock Blast, making it very difficult for EdgeQuake users to break the Baton Pass chain. Latias is the sweeper because it has crazy high Special stats thanks to Soul Dew. It is picked over Latios because its higher physical bulk is better for tanking Extreme Speeds. It too has Taunt, as every single member of the chain must have Taunt.

EDIT: Put Cosmic Power over Agility on Groudon.

This is a team with dual latias. Because well Lati@s are completely and utterly broken. I find this teir plays a lot like gen 3 ubers even tho i have not played a ton of it. I am legit using sets straight from smogon ubers page with the latias's. They can just break teams all on there own. However after I have them i added stuff to help back them up. Kyogre is another amazing powerhouse mon and it allows me to use thunder on the latias a lot easier. And means i have weather control. Another mon that helps with weather control weather is Rayquaza. It holds trick to dismantle some walls as well incase it can't break them or if the team struggles with them a bit. Skarm allows me to wall pretty much all physical hitters in the game and eat fire hits while in rain. First i was using jirachi but then i realized metagross is better. Metagross checks lati@s much better hitting them harder always ohko them with mega horn and hits just about everything else really hard as well with a choice band. It also still eats a earthquake from any mon even deo-a or dugtrio with a choiceband (252+ Atk Choice Band Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Metagross: 256-302 (70.5 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO ). Fairly simple straight foward offence/bulky offence team i have here. As a last note i like cm>tail glow generally as the extra bulk helps a lot but tail glow is good for quicker set up and sweeping power and feel free to change them both to cm or both tail glow as you see fit. Latias FTW.

If you've been hanging out in Old Shark lately you probably already know that a few of us have been developing a new Random Battle format for ORAS Hackmons. The idea for the format is simple: we want to build a tier that offers the variety and chaos of randbats and fuses them with, well, the variety and chaos of hackmons. Every team is guaranteed to have a pokemon with Mold Breaker in the 6th team slot and a pokemon with Wonder Guard in the 5th team slot and every team is guaranteed not to have the same ability 3 times or more. Apart from those requirements the teams are generated randomly from a list of pre-made hackmons sets. Like all Random Battles, Gen 6 Random Hackmons has no team preview. So far the room tournaments have been a lot of fun. As you might expect, many of the sets are very strong and battles can often take decisive and surprising turns. I really look forward to continuing to expand the tier and refine the set list. Thank you everyone for your help and for playing and enjoying this new hackmons metagame.

If anyone wants to try the tier out for themselves, here is the up-to-date set list with detailed instructions on how to build a team: https://pokepast.es/f6b7e90c50ba4946

Hi Y'all! As we know wg's are usually passive, and only Xerneas, M-Diancie and Pdon aren't really in that list.
I decided to make an offensive M-Scizor Wonder Guard set, to utilise that great 150 attack stat too, cause it's pretty damn nice.

Chain Chomp (Scizor-Mega) (M) @ Fire Memory
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shift Gear / Shell Smash
- Sunsteel Strike
- Multi-Attack
- Attack Order / U-Turn / Play Rough / False Swipe

Shift Gear is M-Scizor's main setup move, but if you want you can also run Shell Smash instead for less bulk, but more power. Jolly Nature is ran to outspeed deo-s after a shift gear, but you can run Adamant instead if you like. I tried to make this set imposter-proof with fire type multi-attack, and the rest of the moves are it's dual STAB. You can run U-Turn over Attack Order to gain momentum, but Attack Order generally works better. Play Rough is of course also an option instead for more coverage and false swipe is also a reliable answer to Innards Out.

Slayer (Mewtwo-Mega-Y) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Innards Out
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
IVs: 0 Def / 0 SpD
- Stealth Rock
- Sticky Web
- Spore
- Final Gambit

Chain Chomp (Scizor-Mega) (M) @ Fire Memory
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shift Gear
- Sunsteel Strike
- Multi-Attack
- Attack Order / Thousand Arrows

I... I am SPEEEED!! (Deoxys-Speed) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fissure
- Sing
- Gastro Acid
- Sheer Cold

King Boo (Gengar-Mega) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Moongeist Beam
- Secret Sword
- Sludge Wave

Creative Name (Muk-Alola) (M) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Pursuit
- Spectral Thief
- Rapid Spin
- Magic Coat

Huge Destruction (Mewtwo-Mega-X) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Photon Geyser
- Sacred Fire
- King's Shield
- Play Rough

M-Scizor really likes some hazard support, so MMY is a good partner for it, deo-s can clean anything up late game, which M-Scizor really like since he usually can't finish things off late game, but CAN at least K.O. one pokemon after setting up. M-Gengar is just a good magic guard sweeper, its just there for abusing magic guard and taking status moves up for M-Scizor, you could probably replace it with a prankster mon, I just dont like prankster and usually don't use it. Muk-A is the best wg partner for both M-Scizor and M-Gengar, which creates some nice team synergy. MMX is a great partner for M-Scizor AND is one of the best huge power abusers, feel free to run shed shell on it instead to deal with stag.

I'm pretty new to making wg sets, so recommendations are appreciated!

Once I'm Home I'll add the team too, feel free to give any tips involving the set.

I made a very similar set before and it didn't really get enough opportunities to set up imo (maybe thats just because the only person I played was Ransei ;), but it's a very fun set nonetheless. Offensive WGs do exist in the form of PDon (I would provide a replay if i could be bothered), Xern, Pogre, Kartana's weird set and others. I would recommend never using Attack Order on that set (thought U-Turn is an option) and instead replacing it for either Baton Pass (for a different mon to sweep) or TArrows for better coverage. Sunsteel is your main stab and Attack Order doesn't really hit anything.

(Attack Order) It does, It hits many of the common wg's like m-gyara SE, deals with deo-s, ash-gren and m-slowbro too.... And I did already mention U-turn for momentum.

Deo-s always sash nearly, Sunsteel easily OHKOs after rocks and a boost, Ash-gren wins anyway if fire move, loses anyway if not, M-Slowbro would lose a 1v1 if there's no wisp or haze. 3 of those Pokemon are Waters, so you may as well run Leaf Blade for Swampert and Pogre. There are hundreds of different typings only certain moves can it, so arguing about which coverage move to run is futile. I concede the point that Attack Order can hit things, but there are better moves out there.

Ok, So Which Other Moves Should I add? In Old Shark at the time they said leaf blade was worse then attack order, cause I was considering it too. So T-Arrows and which other moves?

Below I test two fire type pokes against your Shift Gear+Thousand Arrows+U-Turn Scizor-Mega:
Against Heatran (Specially Defensive Smogon Set):
0 SpA Heatran Lava Plume vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Scizor-Mega: 340-408 (99.1 - 118.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Thousand Arrows vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 416-492 (107.7 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Against Darmanitan-Galar (Choice Scarf Darmanitan-Galar Set):
252 Atk Gorilla Tactics Darmanitan-Galar Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Scizor-Mega: 520-612 (151.6 - 178.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Sunsteel Strike vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 584-690 (166.3 - 196.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Multi-Attack vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 466-550 (132.7 - 156.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Thousand Arrows vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 175-207 (49.8 - 58.9%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
According to calcs you might have a better chance against Darmanitan-Galar than Heatran.
All in all, good set. If it's a fail for the imposter-proof+dual STAB, welp, RIP.

Below I test two fire type pokes against your Shift Gear+Thousand Arrows+U-Turn Scizor-Mega:
Against Heatran (Specially Defensive Smogon Set):
0 SpA Heatran Lava Plume vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Scizor-Mega: 340-408 (99.1 - 118.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Thousand Arrows vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 416-492 (107.7 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Against Darmanitan-Galar (Choice Scarf Darmanitan-Galar Set):
252 Atk Gorilla Tactics Darmanitan-Galar Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 252 Def Scizor-Mega: 520-612 (151.6 - 178.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Sunsteel Strike vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 584-690 (166.3 - 196.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Multi-Attack vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 466-550 (132.7 - 156.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Scizor-Mega Thousand Arrows vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Darmanitan-Galar: 175-207 (49.8 - 58.9%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
According to calcs you might have a better chance against Darmanitan-Galar than Heatran.
All in all, good set. If it's a fail for the imposter-proof+dual STAB, welp, RIP.
You'll have to use Pokemon and sets that are relevant to the Gen 7 Pure Hackmons metagame as examples. Darmanitan-Galar is not fit for any sort of discussion here since this is an Old Gen megathread and the Heatran carries OU EVs and moves. Heatran is also not a very reliable Pokemon to use in the Gen 7 Pure Hackmons format.

Time for another Viability Rankings update! In this one we're going to be ranking and unranking quite a few Pokemon.
UR -> C, below Zapdos. Blissey has been discovered as an amazing Special wall, being able to counter the Latis, Kyogre, Raikou, Kingdra, and many other special attackers. Many top-tier Pokemon, such as Groudon, Kyogre, and Skarmory, only have special weaknesses, making Blissey an excellent partner to these Pokemon. Unfortunately, it is very passive, even more passive than the likes of Skarmory and Lugia, and that's why it is only at C Rank.
UR -> C-, below Solrock. The reason to use Metagross over Jirachi is that Jirachi holding a Choice Band is unable to OHKO Latias even with an Adamant nature, while Metagross can reach this. It is still worse than Jirachi because of the lost Special Defense and Speed, of which Jirachi didn't have that much of in the first place. Jirachi also pulls off Dragon Dance much better.
Swap places. Quagsire is just too passive, not dealing enough damage and being too slow to effectively use Taunt and is Taunt bait itself. It invites many threats in for free and doesn't put in enough work. Lanturn, however, does have enough offensive presence with its Electric STAB to deter Taunt users, and thus carries much more consistency than Quagsire.
A -> A+, the bottom. Skarmory has shown time and time again that it is capable of walling all physically offensive foes. It is the best defensive pivot in the game and requires a powerful special attacker to dent it. Skarmory's weaknesses are very easy to patch up with cores such as Skarmory + Kyogre + Groudon/Latias. It has proven to be better than the A Rank and therefore it will rise to A+.
A- -> A, below Dugtrio. Deoxys-Attack is an extremely powerful wallbreaker, cleaner, and revenge killer in one who also has a great matchup vs Baton Pass. Its Explosions are extremely powerful and will OHKO all but the sturdiest Normal resists. It is a great lead as well because of its high-powered Explosions, allowing you to take out the other lead relatively easily. It has two free slots for coverage, and with these it can eliminate its checks such as Jirachi, Banette, and Skarmory with moves such as Shadow Ball and even Sacred Fire. Deoxys-Attack is a very good Pokemon and thus rises to A Rank.
Swap places. Latias is slightly better than Latios for its ability to tank Extreme Speed better and assist in defensive cores better. This is a very minor change and as such does not need a long explanation.
A -> A-, the top. Slaking, while a very powerful sweeper, does not provide any utility to its team. It is simply a one time sweeper who needs to Skill Swap to do anything meaningful. If not for these traits, it could have been an excellent revenge killer with its high powered Extreme Speed. However, this is not the case. There also exist many checks to Slaking, such as Skarmory, Gengar, and Porygon2. You can use these to play around Slaking relatively easily. As such, Slaking will drop. However, do not underestimate Slaking, as it is a very powerful foe. Once it has set up, little can stop it from rampaging through the opposing team.
D -> UR. Any reason to use this over SubPass Lugia?

Guys, is magic room any good for stag perish song to deal with shed shell?
Yea that's definitely possible to run over spikes. I would maybe think about building around it a bit. maybe finding some other good users of magic room or stacking multiple stags.

Big thanks to manu 11 and everyone else in Old Shark who gave input.
Looking pretty good, I think I’ll recommend putting Chansey in S-rank tho. It has so many different possibilities AND can stop sweeps. It’s just too good for it’s fellow A+-rank mates imo.

EDIT: Blissey too lol

Latios to S rank for that gen 5 VR imo.
Latios is by far i find the most threatening sweeper in the tier. Even tho it usually runs the 1 mold breaker spore, spacial rend, stored power, shell smash set it can run some other coverage if it wants and can also run shadow tag. But generally it sticks to its sweeping set due to its pure speed and power. After 1 smash nothing besides steels is living stored power and spacial rend together and even some steels take a ton from even just 1 smash due to the insane power that soul dew holds such as scizor +2 252+ SpA Soul Dew Mold Breaker Latios Spacial Rend vs. 248 HP / 252 SpD Scizor: 245-288 (71.4 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO. However registeel manages to tank +2 252+ SpA Soul Dew Mold Breaker Latios Spacial Rend vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Registeel: 144-171 (39.5 - 46.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery. Its speed teir unmatched after a smash and with spore and mold breaker your able to put to sleep just about everything. You gonna need magic coat and some heavy bulk like registeel has to be able to block or manage somewhat with that kind of speed and power. Either this or your forced into having scarf imposter. I find myself needing to run multiple checks even if soft ones on every single team and the first thing that seems to come to mind when building and thinking of sweepers is none other then this monster latios. Even if this is somewhat manageable due to steels and scarf imposter the fact your forced into running so much to check him really indicates to me its S rank. Similarly to how deo-s is by far the most or 1 of the most well known things to always prep for the fact you have to prep so hard makes it S rank. And even if you do prep you can still end up getting trampled on if your opp manages to dismantle or get rid of your checks. Latios truely a insane beast. And standing true as a master dragon. Also the VR overall looking good tho. Well be interesting to see how it develops
