Project Old Gen Hackmons Megathread

:meloetta:Monotype in PH, Part 2:palkia:

ice.png

Not bottom tier because of the Sheer Cold immunity and the offensive threats are good but like it's Ice. It's still low tier and its Wonder Guards are really bad, possibly the worst out of all the types.
Offense

:sm/kyurem-white::sm/kyurem-black::sm/lapras::sm/articuno::sm/walrein::sm/sandslash-alola::sm/weavile:

Black and White Kyurem are the two strongest attackers that Ice has. Black Kyurem is especially useful as it can go with Huge Power or Refrigerate better. Lapras is the main user of Prankster and Imposter on the team. Articuno is the team's natural defense from No Guard, as it is immune to all of its attacks and has Magic Bounce to stop No Guard users from using Sing or Gastro Acid on it. It can also be a Wonder Guard of its own to tank Fighting-type attacks. Even though Articuno walls No Guard, the team still wants one or more Wonder Guards to take care of its bad matchups. Walrein is a Wonder Guard that tanks Fire- and Steel-type attacks. Alolan Sandslash can be used as a Huge Power for its Sunsteel Strike STAB, or it can be used as a Wonder Guard to tank Rock- and Steel-type attacks. When paired with Articuno and Walrein, the three form a perfect standard defensive core, and even though they don't have a Moongeist Beam resist, they have two Pokemon that are neutral to Sunsteel Strike and one Photon Geyser resist. Weavile is the team's No Guard and also the second best Huge Power, and it can also function as an Innards Out user, though it is rather poor at this role.

Balance

:sm/kyurem-white::sm/kyurem-black::sm/lapras::sm/avalugg::sm/articuno::sm/walrein::sm/sandslash-alola::sm/weavile:

Black and White Kyurem are still the two strongest attackers on Ice. Lapras is, again, the main user of Prankster/Imposter. Avalugg is a new face, sporting Fur Coat to counter Huge Powers. Articuno is very, very important with Magic Bounce to stop No Guard or just be a Wonder Guard on balance. Walrein and Alolan Sandslash retain their old roles, though Alolan Sandslash now prefers Wonder Guard as it is neutral to Stealth Rock, so it is the primary Defogger on Ice. Weavile resumes its role as a No Guard user or a Huge Power user.

fighting.png

High tier type, can fix all of its problems really easily, a ton of great mons including MMX, not top tier because it's not as good as the other top tier types.
Offense

:sm/mewtwo-mega-x::sm/hariyama::sm/pheromosa::sm/keldeo::sm/lopunny-mega::sm/lucario-mega:

Mega Mewtwo X is the best Pokemon on Fighting. It can run almost any set with Huge Power, Shadow Tag, and Innards Out, just to name a few. Hariyama is the main Innards Out as it has very high HP and low defenses. It also has a high Attack stat, meaning it can use Close Combat to not be passive and lower its defenses at the same time. It is also the Imposter of Fighting. Pheromosa is the fastest Pokemon available, and plays the No Guard role very well. It may also run Huge Power if it wants to, with a STAB First Impression and U-turn. However, Mega Lopunny is the best No Guard due to its immunity to Ghost and resistance to Bug. This allows it to pivot on U-turns and Moongeist Beam very easily. Mega Lucario is the best Wonder Guard on Fighting, with a neutrality to every Fighting-type weakness. It is best paired with Wonder Guard Keldeo, as Keldeo is the fastest Pokemon to not be weak to Fire, Fighting, Ground, Ghost, or Ice.

Balance

:sm/buzzwole::sm/mewtwo-mega-x::sm/hariyama::sm/cobalion::sm/pheromosa::sm/keldeo::sm/lopunny-mega:

Buzzwole is the team's Fur Coat user, aiming to stop opposing Huge Power. All of the aforementioned Pokemon play their usual roles, however Pheromosa can now be a Comatose user. In addition, Cobalion has replaced Mega Lucario due to higher bulk. There isn't much to comment on here.

poison.png

Poison can surely work its way around the Ground weakness with its Wonder Guards, and its offensive mons are good too. It gets Mega Gengar, which is really big. I'd call it high tier but only by a slim margin, because it carries some truly fantastic mons.
Offense
:sm/venusaur-mega::sm/beedrill-mega::sm/gengar-mega::sm/nihilego::sm/muk-alola:

Mega Venusaur is a great Prankster user with an immunity to Spore. This allows it to use Spore as much as it wants with no fear of Magic Bounce. Surprisingly, Mega Beedrill is the best Pokemon on Poison. As a Wonder Guard, it carries a neutrality to Ground, allowing it to take Thousand Arrows, and it is also incredibly fast. This allows Mega Beedrill to serve as the best Huge Power and No Guard as well. Mega Gengar takes a close second, being the best offensive Pokemon on Poison. We all know what Mega Gengar does though. Nihilego serves as the main Innards Out user. It has high HP and Special Defense, but very low Defense. It also has good Speed, allowing a traditional set as well as a suicide lead set. Alolan Muk is a great Wonder Guard. When paired with Mega Beedrill, they perfectly cover all attacks except for Sunsteel Strike.

Balance

:sm/venusaur-mega::sm/gengar::sm/beedrill-mega::sm/gengar-mega::sm/nihilego::sm/muk-alola::sm/toxapex:

A new face is Toxapex, who is a viable Prankster user. Although it faces heavy competition from Mega Venusaur, Toxapex has a Sunsteel Strike resist, allowing it to create perfect synergy between Mega Beedrill and Alolan Muk. In addition, regular Gengar may be used with Illusion. It can then transform into Mega Gengar using Shadow Tag, and eliminate the opponent with Perish Song. Every other Pokemon retains its natural role. Drapion may also be used over Alolan Muk, if so desired. Also, the usage of Wonder Guard Mega Beedrill is mandatory on these teams.

ground.png

Mid tier and not high tier because Ground struggles with No Guard way too much. However it's got some great mons in there that really make Ground a usable type.
Offense

:sm/groudon-primal::sm/zygarde-complete::sm/mamoswine::sm/swampert-mega::sm/dugtrio::sm/excadrill:

Primal Groudon is the main Wonder Guard, with only two weaknesses. He can also run Magic Guard or Mold Breaker sets, as he can definitely go both ways. Zygarde Complete Forme is the best Prankster for Ground, and can also run other sets such as Magic Bounce or Innards Out. Mamoswine provides a powerful wallbreaker with Huge Power or Mold Breaker that is also immune to Sheer Cold. Mega Swampert can be paired with Wonder Guard Primal Groudon and have perfect standard synergy, though they are missing a Photon Geyser and Moongeist Beam resist. Excadrill can fulfill this, or it can be a Huge Power with a Sunsteel Strike STAB. Dugtrio is the fastest Ground-type so it's the No Guard.

Balance

:sm/steelix-mega::sm/groudon-primal::sm/zygarde-complete::sm/mamoswine::sm/swampert-mega::sm/dugtrio::sm/excadrill:

Mega Steelix is the type's main Fur Coat user, able to sponge nearly every physical attack. It also resists Photon Geyser. The rest of the Pokemon comprise their usual roles. Not much to talk about here.

flying.png

Mid tier type, the main problem is its weakness to rocks but it can get around that. The Ice weakness isn't even a big deal because Articuno covers for it. Sadly its defensive threats suck keeping it out of high tier.
Offense

:sm/rayquaza-mega::sm/celesteela::sm/yveltal::sm/aerodactyl-mega::sm/articuno::sm/drifblim::sm/ninjask:

Mega Rayquaza is the best attacker on Flying. It is the best user of Aerilate in the whole game, and is a good Huge Power user as well, although its speed tier is a little lacking. Celesteela is a viable Wonder Guard that also resists Stealth Rock, meaning it will be the main Defog user. Yveltal is the main Prankster user, having an immunity to Prankster itself. Mega Aerodactyl is the main No Guard user. Though it is slower than Ninjask, it does not carry a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, and has much higher bulk. It can also OHKO Articuno with Diamond Storm. Articuno is what holds the whole team together, as it is completely immune to Sheer Cold. This means that you only need one Wonder Guard, or maybe even none at all if your team is offensive enough. Drifblim is the main Innards Out user, as it has one of the highest HP stats in the game along with pitiful defenses. Ninjask is another No Guard if you would like something faster than base 150s.

Balance

:sm/rayquaza-mega::sm/celesteela::sm/yveltal::sm/aerodactyl-mega::sm/articuno::sm/landorus::sm/drifblim:

Ninjask is noticeably not on Balance. This is because it is much too frail to work on Balance, and its 4x weakness to Stealth Rock doesn't help. For these reasons, Mega Aerodactyl is the primary No Guard. Articuno is absolutely mandatory on Balance unlike Offense, because momentum is much less of a deal. Landorus has also joined to form a near-perfect Wonder Guard core with Celesteela, only missing out on a Moongeist Beam resist. The rest of the Pokemon perform their usual roles.

psychic.png

Top tier, no questions asked. Even if its defensive threats were horrible its offensive threats are beyond broken and you can just spam them until you win. Its defensive threats are also great too, to add to that pile.
Offense

:sm/necrozma-ultra::sm/hoopa-unbound::sm/lunala::sm/metagross-mega::sm/mewtwo-mega-x::sm/deoxys-attack::sm/deoxys-speed::sm/mewtwo-mega-y::sm/gardevoir-mega::sm/wobbuffet::sm/alakazam-mega:

Ultra Necrozma isn't actually the main attacker but it can be used with Ultranecrozium Z to gain a free Light That Burns The Sky. Hoopa Unbound Forme is used either as a Wonder Guard. a Huge Power, or a Prankster. As a Wonder Guard it has a neutrality to both Ghost and Dark, and as a Huge Power it has a massive 160 Attack and also a giant 170 Special Attack, so it can run mixed sets with Moongeist Beam. Just make sure that its Attack is higher than its Special Attack. Lunala is a great Choice Scarf user, being usable with all sorts of abilities from No Guard to Innards Out to Parental Bond. Mega Metagross is the primary Harvest user, with a STAB Searing Sunraze Smash and a STAB Light That Burns The Sky. Mega Mewtwo X is, of course, the best attacker on Psychic for obvious reasons. Deoxys-Attack is an excellent Psychic Surge setter with its massive offensive stats and Speed. Deoxys-Speed fills the roles of No Guard and Mold Breaker with hazards. Mega Mewtwo Y is the best special attacker in the game, and similar to Lunala can run nearly all abilities successfully. Mega Gardevoir is used for its Fairy STAB to take down Dark-types, but it can also be used as a Wonder Guard over Hoopa Unbound Forme, trading a Ghost neutrality for a Bug neutrality. Mega Alakazam is another great speedy Pokemon which fills similar roles to Deoxys-Attack.

Balance
:sm/lunala::sm/metagross-mega::sm/mewtwo-mega-x::sm/slowbro-mega::sm/deoxys-speed::sm/mewtwo-mega-y::sm/cresselia::sm/gardevoir-mega::sm/wobbuffet::sm/alakazam-mega::sm/meloetta:

The glass cannons have been taken out of Balance and the sturdier Pokemon have entered Balance. Cresselia and Mega Slowbro are notable for completely walling Huge Power with Fur Coat. You may choose between them if you would like either more Defense with Mega Slowbro or more Special Defense with Cresselia. You can also use Wonder Guard on both of these, though Wonder Guard Mega Slowbro is more difficult to support on Psychic. Meloetta is used as a Moongeist Beam immunity, which is incredibly helpful on Psychic. Mega Gardevoir is still a very viable Wonder Guard, notable for its resistance to Bug. The rest of the Pokemon perform their standard roles.

Will be continued in Part 3!

Gen 4 Analysises!
Figured I'd (re)make them with a newer meta. I'll edit them in as I work on them.
Gira-O proves itself to become a metagame warping force. Its STAB Shadow Sneak allows it to check otherwise very threatening Psychics in the Deoxys and the Lati's. When combined with an amazingly high bulk and a lack of high powered super effective moves, allows Giratina-O to set up easily and consistently. The metagame has adapted to Giratina, as it is weak to trapping and chip damage and can't deal well with WG's.

Standard
Giratina-Origin @ Griseous Orb / Haban Berry
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang / Coverage
- Dragon Dance / Coverage / Recover

Sets: Adamant + Griseous OHKO's Deo-S, otherwise use Jolly + Haban to help against other Giratina.
Coverage Options: Leaf Blade, Thunder Punch, Close Combat

Giratina, after a +1 boost is able to threaten all(!) offensive Pokemon and continue to threaten Water Type WG's. Make sure the latter are revealed and worn down / down before attempting a sweep. Shadow Sneak prevents Copycat/Whirlwind threats from Giratina-A and Deoxys-S, while KO'ing Latios and Deoxys-A. Dragon Claw is your main STAB to hit non WG's, hitting the (once) common WG Palkia, Pure Power Regigias/Slaking, and other Dragons like Rayquaza and opposing Giratina. Fire Fang hits through WG's that don't resist it and chips WG's that do, especialy after a boost.

Gira-O works well with other Fire Fang sweepers like Regigigas/Slaking and Ho-Oh. The latter can weaken opposing WG's and may have coverage that Gira does not, while Gira can plough through the weakened team and take on Dragons.

Other Options: Magic Guard
Lum Berry and Shed Shell (i'll go through these later)

Just look at those attack stats. Deoxys-A is meant to destroy. Unlike the MMX of Gen 7, Deoxys-Attack lacks good physical stab while also needing to use Fire Fang to beat WGs. Therefore, the best Deo-A sets have a variety of coverage that break common WG's. Relying on coverage gives Deoxys-A major 4MSS. However, Deoxys is very frail, making it hard to switch in. This also makes it fall to the variety of priority in the metagame, such as Arceus, Regigigas/Slaking, and Giratina-O. And while it can destroy teams with its coverage, foten times you need a second Pokemon with these moves as Deoxys-A can not be a reliable answer to many WGs.

1. Pure Power
Deoxys-Attack @ Focus Sash / Life Orb / Chillian Berry
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Fang / Coverage
- Close Combat / Coverage
- Thunder Punch / Coverage
- Dragon Claw / Coverage
Coverage: Extreme Speed, Dragon Claw, Leaf Blade, Wood Hammer, Volt Tackle, Close Combat, U-Turn.

Deoxys-Attack can be used as either a lead or a revenge killer mid-game (after WGs have been revealed) in order to break holes in the opponents' team. As most WG's in Gen 4 are tailored to resist Fire Fang, Deoxys-Attack can abuse its amazing speed to theoretically threaten a slower offensive Pokemon and any switch in. Close Combat and Dragon Claw hit some of Deo-A's worst matchups in Extreme Speeders and Giratina-O, respectively, with DClaw hitting WG Palkia too. As a coverage based set, it relies on heavy prediction and good matchups to be successful. Sash and Chillian lets Deoxys live 1 E-Speed and OHKO back, while LIfe Orb gives it a straight power boost.

2. Mold Breaker
Deoxys-Attack @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Psycho Boost
- Explosion
- Draco Meteor / Dragon Claw
- Toxic Spikes / Coverage
Coverage: Thunderbolt, Hydro Pump, Close Combat, Leaf Storm, Megahorn. Extreme Speed, Fire Blast, among others.

Mold Breaker Deoxys-Attack can now use the extremely devastating Explosion, still at 500 BP this generation, with its Speed and Attack. It also gets a great STAB in Psycho Boost to threaten just about anything on the switch. It is stronger than Psychic, the next strongest Psychic move even after 2 uses. Draco Meteor targets Giratina specifically, who is the major force preventing you from just Booming right away. The plan with Deoxys here is simple. Deal damage with coverage or STAB, and then Boom once your worn down. Again, use as a lead or on a slow pivot is required due to its low bulk. Just don't get too excited about Deoxy's non Explosion moves; which is why you may want coverage to hit a speciifc target.

bug.png

Low tier, it might be surprising that it's not bottom but Bug's weaknesses are pretty easy to deal with. Too bad its mons suck.
Offense

:sm/scizor-mega::sm/pinsir-mega::sm/heracross-mega::sm/volcarona::sm/beedrill-mega::sm/ninjask::sm/durant:

Mega Scizor is the best Pokemon on Bug and the best Wonder Guard. It is what holds the team together, only bearing a Fire weakness that can easily be fixed by Volcarona, and a Stealth Rock neutrality so it may Defog easier. Mega Pinsir carries a Flying STAB, making it a strong Aerilate user. Mega Heracross is not the first Huge Power one thinks of, but it is very powerful; it can use a multitude of speed control options, such as First Impression, Trick Room, or even Speed Boost. Volcarona is the main Wonder Guard you can pair with Mega Scizor, as it carries a neutrality to Fire. Mega Beedrill is the main Huge Power, due to its insanely high Speed tier. Ninjask is the fastest Pokemon on Bug, and thus is the No Guard user. Durant is an option over Mega Scizor, as with a Choice Scarf it is able to outspeed every unboosted Pokemon in the metagame.

Balance

:sm/scizor-mega::sm/pinsir-mega::sm/heracross-mega::sm/volcarona::sm/beedrill-mega::sm/ninjask:

Mega Scizor is still the best Wonder Guard and should always be paired with Volcarona. Mega Beedrill isn't a Wonder Guard option because everything it does is handled by Mega Scizor already. However it can be a No Guard to soak up Toxic Spikes. Mega Heracross only needs First Impression as a speed control option, as it works as a bulky attacker now. Durant was removed as there is no need for a speedy variant of Mega Scizor anymore. The rest of the Pokemon fulfill their natural roles.

rock.png

Ground and Steel weaknesses are not the best and its mons suck hard. Mostly carried by Mega Aerodactyl but I'm gonna have to give this a bottom tier
Offense
:sm/tyranitar-mega::sm/aerodactyl-mega::sm/crustle::sm/nihilego::sm/diancie-mega::sm/relicanth:

Mega Tyranitar is the main Prankster user, as it has massive bulk despite its poor typing. It is also a Dark-type, which is crucial to resist moldy moves. Mega Aerodactyl is the best Pokemon on Rock, being both the Huge Power and the No Guard. Crustle is the main Wonder Guard on Rock Offense as it deals with most of the problems that Rock has. Nihilego is the best Innards Out as it is very fast as well as having higher HP than Mewtwo and a mere 47 Defense, though other options exist such as Rhyperior. Mega Diancie is an important offensive mon as being a Fairy-type on its own is a great role to have on a team. It is also the strongest -ate user on Rock, being able to run Boomburst alongside Pixilate being better than Aerilate. Relicanth can be run alongside Crustle to form a perfect standard Wonder Guard core, and although none of them resist any moldy moves, Relicanth is hit neutrally by Sunsteel Strike.

Balance

:sm/tyranitar-mega::sm/rhyperior::sm/aerodactyl-mega::sm/nihilego::sm/diancie-mega::sm/relicanth::sm/shuckle:

Wonder Guard Crustle has been replaced by Wonder Guard Shuckle due to its higher bulk and lower speed. Additionally, Rhyperior has been added as a special variant of Nihilego, with its main appeal being its higher HP and lower speed. This allows it to target and OHKO threats Nihilego could not, such as Regigigas and Walrein. The rest of the Pokemon play the same role that they did in Rock Offense.

ghost.png

After two embarrassingly bad types we can talk about Ghost, a top tier type. It has a ton of amazing options for everything that you need. The only real problem is that its speed tier isn't the highest but every other aspect of Ghost is great.
Offense

:sm/giratina::sm/necrozma-dawn-wings::sm/lunala::sm/gengar-mega::sm/banette-mega::sm/drifblim::sm/doublade::sm/marshadow::sm/sableye-mega:

Giratina is the main Prankster user on Ghost, due to its massive HP and defenses. Necrozma-Dawn-Wings is mainly used as a Wonder Guard with Shell Smash, before using Ultranecrozium Z and transforming into Ultra Necrozma. As a Wonder Guard, it has perfect synergy with Mega Sableye except for a Sunsteel Strike resist. Lunala is mostly used as an Innards Out user, with some other sets like No Guard. It is mainly chosen as an Innards Out user due to its very high HP and decent Speed. Mega Gengar is the best offensive Pokemon that Ghost has, but we all know what it does. It is also the fastest Pokemon on Ghost, so it is the No Guard user as well. Mega Banette is the Huge Power user of Ghost, however it can also run a Shadow Tag set to trap and eliminate Alolan Muk. Drifblim is the main Imposter and Innards Out due to its massive 150 HP, allowing it to target just about every Pokemon in the metagame. Doublade is an alternative Prankster user who will create perfect synergy with Mega Sableye by resisting Sunsteel Strike and Fairy-type attacks. Marshadow is an option if you want a fast Huge Power user. Mega Sableye is the best Pokemon on Ghost and is mandatory because it has a neutrality to both of Ghost's weaknesses. This means that Mega Sableye doesn't need support from other Wonder Guards.

Balance

:sm/giratina::sm/necrozma-dawn-wings::sm/lunala::sm/gengar-mega::sm/banette-mega::sm/drifblim::sm/doublade::sm/sableye-mega:

Doublade is mainly used as a Fur Coat now, able to wall Huge Power easily except for some outliers like Blacephalon. Lunala is almost always the No Guard user now and is very rarely seen using Innards Out on Balance. Marshadow is not on the list anymore because Mega Banette is perfectly capable of using Shadow Sneak on Balance without worrying too much about momentum. Mega Gengar is also able to be a Wonder Guard, perfectly synergizing with Mega Sableye except for a Sunsteel resist. Every other Pokemon resumes their roles on Offense.

dragon.png

Mid tier type, Mega Sceptile and Mega Rayquaza and Black Kyurem are all great but the Ice weakness can only take it so far. Plus it struggles against Fissure at the same time.
Offense

:sm/rayquaza-mega::sm/necrozma-ultra::sm/guzzlord::sm/dialga::sm/palkia::sm/zygarde-complete::sm/kyurem-black::sm/sceptile-mega:

Mega Rayquaza is the greatest attacker on Dragon. It mainly uses Aerilate, though it can run some other sets like Triage or Huge Power. Ultra Necrozma just does the usual business of having a free Z-Move slot. It can also be a speedy Innards Out user. Guzzlord is the main Imposter and Innards Out user because other dragons simply have too much bulk to fit the role. Dialga is the main Wonder Guard, carrying a neutrality to every single one of Dragon's weaknesses. Palkia is a great partner to Dialga, as together they form a very powerful core, only missing out on a Moongeist Beam resist which Guzzlord can provide. Zygarde Complete Forme serves as the Prankster user, we all know what it does already so I'm gonna skip it. Black Kyurem abuses Refrigerate but more importantly it is immune to Sheer Cold so it serves as a glue to the team. Mega Sceptile is the fastest Pokemon, so it serves as the No Guard, and is also a great suicide lead due to its Spore immunity.

Balance

:sm/rayquaza-mega::sm/guzzlord::sm/dialga::sm/palkia::sm/zygarde-complete::sm/kyurem-black::sm/sceptile-mega:

Ultra Necrozma does not fit on Balance, so it was taken off the roster. Black Kyurem can now run Fur Coat to increase its longevity and make it a general physical tank, as it is very important to teams to not be run over by Sheer Cold. You can also make Guzzlord a physically exclusive Innards Out to provide a reliable Moongeist Beam resistance to the team. Every other mon just performs their standard roles.

dark.png

A fantastic type with a diverse pool of excellent Pokemon. However it has some big problems, such as being forced into a passive state due to good attackers being limited, so I'd say it's a high tier type.
Offense

:sm/hoopa-unbound::sm/gyarados-mega::sm/yveltal::sm/guzzlord::sm/greninja-ash::sm/muk-alola::sm/raticate-alola:

Hoopa-Unbound is a Huge Power with Photon Geyser STAB who is also able to go mixed due to its massive 170 Special Attack stat. Mega Gyarados is a Wonder Guard that can be paired with Alolan Muk for perfect synergy. Yveltal is an excellent Prankster user, due to its natural high bulk and its Flying type ignoring Psychic Terrain. Guzzlord is the main Innards Out and Imposter user, due to its huge HP stat. Ash Greninja is the best offensive Pokemon on Dark, and probably the best Pokemon on Dark overall, due to its high Attack and Special Attack coupled with its Speed, which is higher than 130. It can run many sets such as Mold Breaker, Water Bubble, No Guard, and Wonder Guard. Alolan Muk is the best Wonder Guard on Dark, as it carries a neutrality to all of Dark's weaknesses. Alolan Raticate is an offensive Wonder Guard that has perfect synergy with Alolan Muk, except for a Sunsteel Strike resist.

Balance

:sm/hoopa-unbound::sm/gyarados-mega::sm/yveltal::sm/guzzlord::sm/tyranitar-mega::sm/greninja-ash::sm/muk-alola::sm/raticate-alola::sm/sableye-mega:

Two new faces have shown up on Balance. The first one, Mega Tyranitar, is best run with Magic Bounce or Fur Coat. Its high defenses alongside its Attack stat allow it to serve as a very bulky attacker. The second one, Mega Sableye, is an option if you would like a Wonder Guard that can freely run Safety Goggles without the threat of Shadow Tag. Every other Pokemon is the same as before.

steel.png

Steel has some good mons like Kartana, Dialga, and Mega Metagross, but ultimately the lack of specially offensive threats and the very slow speed tier lands it a mid tier.
Offense

:sm/dialga::sm/metagross-mega::sm/scizor-mega::sm/lucario-mega::sm/durant::sm/kartana:

Dialga is a mandatory Wonder Guard on Steel. This is because its weaknesses are the most manageable, as Mega Scizor or Kartana will also be on every team. Mega Metagross is an insanely powerful attacker with Huge Power or Harvest. Mega Scizor is a Shell Smash Wonder Guard user who abuses Sunsteel Strike to bust through teams. Mega Lucario is also a very good Huge Power user who can also go mixed with Moongeist Beam. Technically it's the fastest Pokemon as well so it's the No Guard but 112 Speed is pitiful for a No Guard, so I would not recommend it. Durant is a faster version of Mega Scizor who can outspeed the whole unboosted metagame with a Choice Scarf. Kartana is an option over Mega Scizor as it is stronger and faster, but it is more frail and shares a Fighting weakness with Dialga.

Balance

:sm/dialga::sm/metagross-mega::sm/aggron-mega::sm/registeel::sm/scizor-mega::sm/lucario-mega::sm/doublade::sm/kartana:

We see a few new defensive threats on Balance. Mega Aggron is an excellent Fur Coat user. It can absorb nearly every physical attack, even ones that are super effective. This is because of its absolutely massive defense being doubled by Fur Coat. Doublade is the same thing, but it trades a Ghost weakness for a Fighting immunity and the ability to escape Shadow Tag. Registeel is a specially defensive Pokemon as well as a great Magic Bounce user. Every other Pokemon plays the same as normal.

fairy.png

Mid tier, covers its weaknesses well and has a bunch of good Pokemon but outside of Diancie and Gardevoir the Pokemon just aren't strong enough, plus there is sort of a bulk issue.
Offense

:sm/xerneas::sm/tapu-koko::sm/mawile::sm/mawile-mega::sm/magearna::sm/diancie-mega:

Xerneas is an offensive Wonder Guard, but we all know what it does. It's also the Imposter due to the other player confusing it as a Wonder Guard. Tapu Koko is the fastest Pokemon on Fairy, so naturally it's the No Guard. Mawile is used as a Wonder Guard that can transform into a Huge Power Mega Mawile. Mega Mawile can be a physically offensive Wonder Guard or a Huge Power. Magearna is an offensive Wonder Guard that uses Sunsteel Strike to muscle past opposing Wonder Guards. Mega Diancie is the Pixilate user, but can also run Huge Power or Shadow Tag.

Balance

:sm/xerneas::sm/tapu-koko::sm/audino-mega::sm/mawile-mega::sm/magearna::sm/diancie-mega:

Mawile was removed because the role compression it offers is less needed on Balance. Mega Audino was added for a Moongeist Beam immunity, making its synergy between Magearna perfect. Magearna is commonly a defensive Wonder Guard now due to its good defenses. Every other Pokemon performs the same role.

Well, that's every type! But we have no teams to go with the types...no worries! I have two pokepastes here; one contains offense teams and one contains balance teams for every type!

And thus concludes the three part monotype post. Thank you everyone! :altaria:

EDIT: My Altarias scouted the Pokepastes and discovered some issues;
- The Innards Out Hariyama on Fighting Offense and Balance was mistakenly labeled as Wonder Guard.
- The Pixilate Mega Diancie on Fairy Offense has no EVs or Nature.
- The Toxapex on Poison Balance has no EVs or Nature.
- The Aerilate Landorus-Therian on Ground Balance was mistakenly labeled as Intimidate.
- The defensive Wonder Guard Mega Scizor on Steel Balance was mistakenly labeled as Technician.

These issues have been fixed. Give your thanks to the Altarias! :altaria::altaria-mega::altaria::altaria::swablu:

Hello, all!

I've been playing a fair amount of Gen 5 PH recently and have been focusing in on it, so I wanted to share some of my thoughts and observations.

Firstly, the group teambuilding sessions have been a lot of fun! Last night, Dram and I spent probably an hour or so working on some Sun HO teams, and we both came out of it with a team and a good sense of accomplishment! I love the PH teambuilding session idea, and I hope we have many more!

That's a nice little segway into the next point I wanted to make, which is that the benefit served by focusing your attention onto a single Gen of PH at a time is becoming clearer to me. While it's fun to jump from Gen to Gen in PH as we can do whenever we'd like in Old Shark, I've found it's most beneficial to immerse yourself into a Gen at a time to really improve your teambuilding in and understanding of that Gen. Food for thought!

Now, as for some more specific thoughts...

-I strongly second Ransei's nomination for Groudon to S tier in Gen 5 PH (I'm bumping it up to S tier; Ransei nominated it to S-). In fact, if he wasn't going to make the nomination/case for it, I definitely was. It is one of the most centralizing Pokémon in the meta, and it is essential to provide checks for it on your team--two strong and common qualifications for high VR position across all VRs. He hit the most significant points, and I encourage all of you to check out his post, but just to echo some of his thoughts and build off from them, Gen 5 PH is based around methodically building momentum and especially hazard stack. To get hazards up against your opponent and to eliminate them requires careful and measured play. How this pertains to Groudon is that it is perhaps best in the metagame at taking advantage of this hazard stack and careful play. If done correctly, Groudon can devastate teams late game by forcibly phazing Pokémon out and potentially putting them to sleep as well. What is perhaps even more devastating than the vicious cycle of accruing damage by hazards is that in Gen 5, sleep turns reset when a Pokémon leaves the field, so Groudon can simply keep the opposing team asleep and phaze Pokémon out constantly to chip their HP with little hope of counterplay or recovery. Magic Bounce Giratina does wall this Groudon set, but I recommend you don't even bring out Groudon until late game as it is because it is best served as an abstract form of a late-game sweeper. That is, it takes advantage of its threats being chipped or otherwise neutralized late-game by other parts of your team, and in that case, it can begin the vicious, aforementioned cycle of consistent phazing to wipe out the rest of your opponent's team. Overall, it is clear to me that Groudon belongs in the S tier for our Gen 5 PH VR.

-One Pokémon I'd really like to highlight here in the Gen 5 PH meta is Lugia. Recently, particularly between battles Manu, Dram, and I have played, it's become clear to me just how superb it is. There are a variety of sets it can utilize, and make no mistake--that is definitely among the reasons of why it's rising very quickly. For example, check out these potential sets Lugia can utilize in the metagame to illustrate its variety and potential:

Lugia @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Quiver Dance
- Psychic
- Baton Pass

Lugia @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spore
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- Copycat

Lugia @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spore
- Spikes
- Recover
- Copycat

Lugia @ Choice Scarf
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Sheer Cold
- Hypnosis
- Magma Storm

Lugia's bulk, Speed tier, and access to a variety of strategies and sets justify a high VR ranking in my mind. I'm deliberating between A and A+ based on the battles I've played and have watched recently. Perhaps above all the other possibilities, the Toxic Orb/Magic Guard set has a lot of potential. It enables you to be unaffected by Spore and hazard damage, both of which are absolutely monumental in Gen 5 PH.

That's all for now! I'll likely post more again soon. Hope you all enjoyed this. :)

Legacy Dunes: A Hazard Stack Sand Team
Mini RMT

Everyone can agree that it has been a while since the current Gen 5 samples were made. I figured it might be time to have a go at making a more up to date version of one of the teams. Inspired by Ransei’s Zapdos Sand and the hail team Dramblamb made with friends, I set myself the task of creating a weather team of each type. I present to you the first in the series: Sand!

I was super tempted to use Sand Rush Groudon. I almost regret not doing so.

:bw/regirock:
1587455175355.png

Regirock @ Shed Shell
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Skill Swap
- Baton Pass

For the sand setter, I chose berry Regirock due to its high bulk and ability to benefit from the Special Defense boost that sand grants to Rock-types.

:bw/skarmory: 1587465245060.png
Skarmory @ Mail
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Rapid Spin
- Soft-Boiled
- Whirlwind

Scrappy Terrakion originally occupied this slot, but thanks to my realisation of the lack of Prankster Groudon switchins and some input from Dram, I settled on Magic Bounce Skarmory.

:bw/groudon:
1587455234835.png

Groudon @ Choice Band
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Nature Power
- Copycat
- Spore
- Trick

I wanted my own Prankster and a revenge killer. What better fits those roles than the beast that is Groudon. I opted for a Choice Band set, which is something I have been eager to try out.

:bw/dialga:
1587455317471.png

Dialga @ Earth Plate
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Shell Smash
- Dragon Pulse
- Judgment

Just like with most teams a Mold Break was required. The best choice that is immune to sand chip is Dialga (Earth Plate is used to prevent Dialga from hitting Regirock super effectively so it can effectively imposterproof.

:bw/swampert:
1587455403178.png

Swampert @ Lum Berry
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Recover
- Magic Coat
- Baton Pass

Being possibly the best non Wondertomb or Wonderloon with the added benefit of (just like every other team member) being immune to sandstorm damage, Swampert was the obvious choice.

1587465931819.png
1587465970006.png

Pokestar-Spirit @ Leftovers
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Aromatherapy
- Roost
- Sleep Talk

The best Wonder Guard in Gen 5 and the Sleep Talk cleric I desperately wanted. I originally used Scizor here but switched it to Pokestar and used Leftovers to negate the sand damage.

beespikes - an rmt

hi it's the guy who spent days on a post about a style no one will play, but this time it's gonna be about a different team style that i invented a few days ago. namely, beespikes.

beespikes is not tspikes. this is a different kind of team. sadly, beespikes is only possible in these two gens. they both have specific mechanics that make beespikes work. this is best done in gen 7 but gen 5 has the niche of everyone playing that fsr. anyway here are the beespikes teams

Gen 7
:beedrill-mega::mewtwo::deoxys-speed::gengar-mega::hoopa-unbound::kartana:

k so here's what you do.
step 1: you get tspikes up. mold breaker bee is your best bet, it is bee because originally it was wg and it paired really well with mewtwo but i changed it because bouncers suck amirite, it still has that stab uturn so i kept it. mewtwo is the other wg and ransei said it had more def or something so i picked it. yes you want two, defog sucks.
step 2: comatose deo-s. this member is vital, make sure to keep them healthy until you send it in. basically just click sleep talk until you get bounced or something, you want to poison as many mons as possible so if you only poison the bouncer they switch in you probably wanna kill that first and then try again
step 3: send out mgar and win cause you crit hax everything to death cause they're all poisoned. the only thing that really walls you is wg meloetta and then you kill that with the hoopa-unbound which is magic guard cause chansey sucks amirite. also kartana can trap wgs to death. broken team win every time except against bounce audino, sorry but no one can ever win against that

Gen 5
:deoxys-speed::gengar::mewtwo::jolteon::deoxys-speed::spiritomb:

gen 5 team is different, also i named this one deospikes cause beedrill is bad
step 1: mb deo-s wins every time, just use spore and then start setting tspikes, don't do it too much cause you want them to be poisoned
step 2: use prank copycat mewtwo to win, dtail over ww because bouncers suck amirite, dtail can't be stopped unless it misses but whatever im av cosmoem i don't miss
step 3: you don't wall gar, it can run hex and not moongeist now
also the no guard deo-s helps with tspikes and then the wg core is a wg core, spiritomb aka seospikes blocks rapid spin cause spinners suck amirite
worse team cause idk gen 5 meta as much but it is still good and cool

k those are the teams bye

Rainy Stars: A Hazard Stack Rain Team

Welcome to the next in the series of Gen 5 weather. Today I present to you the infamous Rain.

:bw/registeel:
1587593632472.png

Registeel @ Shed Shell
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Recover
- Skill Swap
- Baton Pass

This time I used Registeel as it benefits from weaker Fire-type moves. Regis are just amazing weather setters due to their impressive bulk and slow Speed to almost always guarantee to get the the weather up.

:bw/giratina:
1587593841016.png

Giratina @ Griseous Orb
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Substitute
- Soft-Boiled
- Baton Pass

As this team’s Magic Bouncer I settled on the best choice in Giratina. A Substitute Baton Pass set is used to aid future team members in setting up.

:bw/gyarados:
1587593970261.png

Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall
- Brave Bird
- Spore

Next on the wish list was a Rain abuser. Gyarados boasts the second highest Attack stat of any Water-type in Black and White, only behind . Gyarados also has higher speed and a secondary STAB to threaten any Water resists, so this was the natural choice.

:bw/thundurus-therian:
1587593970261.png

Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Thunder
- Hurricane
- Earth Power

After Gyarados came a second Rain abuser and Special Attacker. As soon as the word ‘Rain’ popped into my head I immediately knew that I was going to use Thundurus Therian. In rain, it has 100% accurate Thunders and Hurricanes which makes it a serious force to be reckoned with.

:bw/scizor:
1587593632472.png

Scizor @ Shed Shell
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Recover
- Aromatherapy
- Sleep Talk

What better Wonder Guard is there to benefit from Rain than the four times Fire weak Scizor. This team needs a lot of pivoting, so the STAB U-turn is appreciated.

1587626192803.png
1587593970261.png

Pokestar Spirit @ Lum Berry
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Curse
- Roost
- Spikes

No balance team is complete without at least two Wonder Guards. I opted for the best one in the meta due to its no weaknesses and ability to abuse curse.

Time for a new Generation 3 Viability Rankings update! This one's going to be long. I'm fixing many mistakes that I planted in the original VR.

380.gif
A+ -> S, below Groudon. Latias is superb in the current metagame. Its BoltBeam and Calm Mind Refresh sets have been taking off with very limited counterplay; the only Pokemon that can beat both of these sets in the current metagame are Shedinja and Metagross. Latias is also not restricted to these sets; it can run TG Taunt, SubCM, 3 Attacks Recover, even DD and choose its checks. This flexibility and power grants it S rank.
381.gif
A+ -> S, below Latias. This is the same reasoning as Latias, but Latios does have a few reasons to be used. For example, its Fire Blast has a chance to OHKO Metagross, something that Latias cannot do without using a move with harmful side effects. Latias also has reasons to be run as well, such as dodging the OHKO from Choice Band Jirachi's Megahorn.
386.gif
A -> A+, below Kyogre. Deoxys-Attack has been excellent recently due to various factors in the metagame. For one, it is an excellent lead Pokemon, as it can simply Explode and remove the target while keeping up a positive matchup against lead Ninjask with Extreme Speed. It is also a prevalent Pokemon on Explosion spam, a new form of hyper offense that has proven to be a powerful force in the metagame. However, the biggest benefit to Deoxys-Attack has been the rise in Baton Pass ever since a Baton Pass team got in the samples. Deoxys-Attack has possibly the best matchup against Baton Pass in the whole game; even with Defense boosts, Lugia struggles to take Shadow Ball, especially from Choice Band Deoxys-Attack. Extreme Speed's presence also prevents the opponent from going into Ninjask for more Speed boosts, lest they be killed. Groudon is also not an answer as Deoxys-Attack tends to carry Sacred Fire to eliminate Skarmory, and as such can fire off powerful Sun-boosted Sacred Fires when Groudon comes out. All of these positive metagame changes mean that Deoxys-Attack should rise.
250.gif
B -> B-, the top. Ho-Oh is just too slow to abuse offensive sets. Its Speed is lacking and it doesn't carry the raw power of Groudon or Kyogre. Defensive sets aren't an option, because any EdgeQuake user (read; Groudon, Dugtrio, Kabutops, Banette, Heracross, any physical attacker) forces it out and stuff like Heracross lures it in and kills it. Its best bet is as a mixed attacker and a stallbreaker with DD Refresh. It performs these roles well enough to stay at the top of B-.
171.gif
C -> B-, below Ho-Oh. This thing is good right now, like really good. A set of Thunder or Thunderbolt/Toxic/Whirlwind/Recover provides a clean switch-in to Kyogre and BoltBeam Latis, currently the best and most popular Lati set, which is amazing for balance and stall. Even better is the fact that it can switch into and cleanly 2HKO Skarmory through recovery spam even with Thunderbolt. It's also a wall that can offensively pick off the Pokemon it switches into, with the added bonus of paralysis spreading if you decide to pick Thunder. Although it faces competition with Shedinja, who provides a better Kyogre switch-in, Lanturn makes for a better Lati switchin as it cannot be OHKO'd by Fire-type moves like Shedinja. All of these great attributes make Lanturn worthy of a rise.
242.gif
C -> C+, below Heracross. Blissey is a fantastic special wall. It pairs extremely well with Skarmory, forming the classic SkarmBliss core. It can be used to easily neutralize any special attacker, including the Latis and even Kyogre if it has high health. However, there are two reasons why it does not rise any further. The first is that Blissey is very vulnerable to trapping; due to its low Speed, it is easily trapped and removed by Dugtrio, and also has problems with Taunt Wobbuffet. Though it can potentially play around Wobbuffet if it manages to status it, this would only work on Leftovers Wobbuffet except under ideal conditions, and Taunt Wobbuffet has been on the rise lately. The second is that the SkarmBliss core can be easily defeated by mixed sweepers such as Deoxys-Attack and Sacred Fire Groudon. These Pokemon are increasing in popularity in order to counter Skarmory, who is in itself the premier physical wall of the metagame. Therefore, Blissey cannot rise any further than C+.
376.gif
385.gif
Swap places. Metagross has taken over as the premier Lati check. This is due to its ability to OHKO Latias with Choice Band Megahorn. It also has extra Defense, which makes it a safer option against incoming Explosions and improves the Deoxys-Attack matchup. Jirachi, on the other hand, falls short in nearly every aspect. It should only be used over Metagross with Dragon Dance sets, but those are suboptimal.
356.gif
C- -> D, the top. This drop is simple to explain. In Generation 3, there is no Focus Sash item, and Pokemon are frailer than in other metagames because typing and abilities are much more important than stats in the metagame. The only hazard is Spikes, which many top tier Pokemon can dodge because of their Flying-type or Levitate ability. This doesn't necessitate the need for hazard setters or Rapid Spin users, and this makes Dusclops's job as a spinblocker less needed, so it drops.

Now that the regular nominations are done, I'm going to do a VR sweep and check whether or not I want to keep or remove every Pokemon on the VR. This is because in the first version of the VR, I ranked many unviable Pokemon or Pokemon with small and useless niches, due to my lesser skill back then. I aim to fix that, so I will using this VR sweep.

And that is the most recentGen 3 VR Update. Have a good day! :altaria:

Time to make some gen 7 noms:

:beedrill-mega: From UR to B/B+
This bee is fast and strong. Boasting a attack stat of 150 and a speed stat of 145 it holds a unique typing allowing it be a strong fast pivot or be able to outpace mewtwo mega x or mega mewtwo y and deal with them with its stab options. Being poison type holds niche in being a good tspike setter and remover as well as just immune to poison. I suppose this is similar to what pherosma does however phero has fighting instead of poison and less attack power. So i would say it should be around the same area as pherosma. It also makes for a pretty unique niche in wg unsure where i would place on the wg vr tho. Also with twineedle it can even 2hko mmy and live innards as well as some other innards mons because of this.

:Alakazam-mega: From B+ to B-/C+. Yes its indeed a wonderful psychic type faster then mmy even however much less power 175 spa compared to 194 and also if your worried about speed you might as well just use deo-a in most situatons the extra bulk on zam is not helping in most situations as well as the fact deo-a has much stronger physical attack allowing to be mixed over mega zam. if your looking for a bit more bulk on the special side well mmy also has that with 120 spd and 106 hp compared to mega zams 105 spd and 55 hp. in either case mega zam is just generally outclassed because of either deo-a just being better as bulk is not relevant in most cases on either or if u want more power and bulk then mmy.

I do believe that we need an update to Generation 6 samples. They're all really outdated. New Legacy Balance especially has to go, as it doesn't prepare for new threats in the metagame. Desertlovania is a toss-up, it's fine but that team has Scizpert which is an underwhelming WG combo now, and Hopes and Dreams probably should stay because it's still good.

I couldn't possibly back this up without my own sample submission, so:

:latios-mega::altaria-mega::registeel::mewtwo-mega-x::scizor-mega::chansey:
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...nse-a-pure-hackmons-rmt.3663290/#post-8446631

I am submitting this team as a Generation 6 sample. Mega Latios can sweep incredibly easily due to its previous issues with sleep and Imposter-proofing being fixed. Wonder Guard Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Scizor form a strong Wonder Guard pair and offensive pair, and Imposter Chansey is a glue to many big threats.

As for gen 6 samples:
I been thinking this would be alright:
https://pokepast.es/9d8486e52af0d38e

Nice team. As for the Shadow Tag set I think there are some different directions you could go.

:deoxys-speed:
Deoxys-Speed @ Lum Berry
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Spikes
- Perish Song
- Recover

That's your original set and while it's not terrible I think it can be improved a bit. I'm not sure what Taunt is doing for you here. You're pretty frail and forcing things to hit you is generally the opposite of what you want to do. I also am having trouble with the item choice. Lum is generally a good item to give to most pokemon but I think there are some better options here. Some sets that come to mind are Substitute King's Shield, Trick Scarf, and the traditional Mail or Megastone sets with Encore.

:aerodactyl-mega:
Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite

Hello I'm dramlamb (aka The Move Reminder) and this is my first RMT. Typically I am very reluctant to share entire teams but I have decided to share one of my favorite teams with you with the goal of improving the ORAS Hackmons resources. Like many teams from ORAS or BW2 hackmons, this team is built around the goal of setting up a Mold Breaker to sweep the opposing team. This tends to be the most consistent and effective way of dealing with opposing Wonder Guard pokemon. Typically this is best achieved if you are able to bring the Mold Breaker in with a timing that makes it most troublesome for your opponent to deal with. In order to accomplish this, the team utilizes a variety of pivot moves. It is also potentially able to pass the Mold Breaker a Substitute, which can be very helpful in setting up. The drawbacks to setting up a Mold Breaker are that it can leave you vulnerable to Imposter and Prankster. This team takes some steps to help mitigate this risk, but there are no silver bullets in hackmons. With all that in mind let’s meet the team.

:rayquaza-mega: :wobbuffet: :diancie: :gengar-mega: :beedrill-mega: :arceus-dark:

:xy/rayquaza-mega:
Altar of Victory (Rayquaza-Mega) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 208 Atk / 48 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Substitute
- Copycat
- Encore
- Baton Pass

This is one of the most versatile and potentially dangerous sets on the entire team. It's primary purpose is to pass substitutes to Arceus, but it can do a lot more than that. Encore allows you to thwart opposing pokemon from continuing to set up by locking them into a move that is useless and allows you to continue to set up while they are forced to hard switch to get out of the encore. One obvious example is if an opposing pokemon uses Shell Smash or Substitute you can lock them onto that move, essentially making their set up useless. What's more you can even use Copycat to steal the Shell Smash for yourself while they are forced to switch. But that isn't the only way you can use Copycat, it can also be used against to copy a pivot moved used by Wobbuffet or Beedrill in order to continue to pivot around and confound their attempts to gain superior positioning or to revenge kill an opposing sweeper by using their own attack against them at +1 priority.

:xy/wobbuffet:
Good Old Terminus (Wobbuffet) @ Leftovers
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 164 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Wish
- Spiky Shield
- Parting Shot
- U-turn

This set is the slow pivot and forms half of the team's Wonder Guard core. Wish can be used to heal Wobbuffet in conjunction with Spiky Shield, or to heal anyone else on the them after you slow pivot with U-turn or Parting Shot. Spikey Sheild is nice because it can allow you to spot a potentionally devastating super effective Huge Power move and then hopefully be able to bring in the right pokemon to either sacrifice or wall it. The reason for needing 2 different pivot moves is that one of them is useless against Magic Bounce while the other is useless against most Wonder Guards. The variety of Pivot moves can also be useful if Rayquaza is going to be used to Copycat one of them.

:xy/gengar-mega:
You Are Mortal (Gengar-Mega) @ Gengarite
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 248 HP / 10 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Encore
- Spikes
- Recover
- Perish Song

This is an extremely well-known set that gengars have been using in hackmons since all the way back to it's HGSS days. It doesn't need too much explanation. The idea is bascially to trap an opposing pokemon and lock them into a fighting, normal, poison, or set up move and then set spikes, use Perish Song, and leave before they song ends. With all the pivot moves on the rest of the team this is a great way to be able to punish a pokemon for using certain moves and lay down a thick layer of entry hazards in the process. This is also the teams method for dealing with the possibility of Imposter Chansey copying your Mold Breaker set. All of Arceus’s attacks are normal type moves unless Chansey is holding a Spooky Plate, so this set can be used to prevent her from countersweeping your team.

:xy/diancie: :xy/diancie-mega:
Concordia (Diancie) @ Diancite
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind

This is by far the most unorthodox of all the sets. The idea is to use Mold Breaker to bypass their Magic Bouncer and get Stealth Rock's set up. Whirlwind can also be used in the same way to bypass their Magic Bounce. Potentially this set can save you from devastating sweeps or can be used to wear down opposing teams by shuffling them over your entry hazards. Slack Off gives the set survivability and the Mega Stone allow you to change from being a Mold Breaker to being a Magic Bouncer if your specific situation makes that ability more useful to your team. Pursuit can be used to finish off or chip down opposing Wonder Guards if you are still in your base Mold Breaker form. Changing to your Bounce form increases it's attack power but lowers your defences and gives up the ability to hit Wonder Guards and Whirlwind or set rocks on Bouncers, so be sure to only transform if you're willing to give up those assets.

Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Magic Coat
- Defog
- Heal Bell
- U-turn

This is the fast pivot and the other half of the team's Wonder Guard core. It has the potential to rack up massive amounts of damage with its U-turns and provides the clerical roles of removing entry hazards and status conditions though the use of Defog and Heal Bell. Magic Coat tends to be an extremely useful Wonder Guard move as it allows you to block the status moves that opponents are often forced to use due to your immunity to most direct attacks. Magic Coat is particularly useful here because unless Diancie has mega evolved, it is your only means of bouncing moves like Dark Void or Stealth Rock. Beedrill's poison typing is also useful in allowing it to pick up Toxic Spikes.

EVs: 252 SpA / 6 SpD / 252 Spe

- Dark Void
- Shell Smash

Arceus isn't the pokemon most teams look to as their Mold Breaker sweeper. Often people tend to reject it in favor of pokemon with higher base attack stats, but this is a mistake. Access to STAB Boomburst and it's fantastic 120/120/120 defences makes it a force to be reckoned with both offensively and defensively, even after a Shell Smash. Boomburst is your main attack and allows you to bypass Substitutes and it's outrageous 140 base power more than makes up for arcues's less flashy attack stats. Dark Void can be used to give you the opportunity to set up a Shell Smash, or to put a Prankster to sleep after it uses Haze or Destiny Bond. Since this this the team's main attacker it is important to try to preserve it, so don't feel obligated to keep it in if you think it might be revenge killed. You can usually pass it a Wish later and start the sweep again.

Thanks for reading and I hope you like the team ^^

Nice team. As for the Shadow Tag set I think there are some different directions you could go.

Your right I do tend to spam lum. I am biased towards lum. Its my fav item. It helps eat a sleep from something a toxic ect. I don't find lefties that helpful in a lot of situations. I found lum more helpful in practice. However either works and perhaps mail is just the best choice over all to fight trick users. Encore can be helpful here vs trick mons then. However if you have lefties or lum I find encore to be rather poor. When your faster then everything you gonna use encore first. then your opp sets up and then it is faster then u and can hit u and encore is just a mess in this situation. If your a slower mon encore can work then u move after then encore them as they set up. This is why I just like to use taunt. taunt stops set up before hand. Its a rare move to use and theres not a whole lot of other options I could think of since I just don't like encore unless u have mail. These other mons can actually mega evo as well with there "mail" aka mega stone but they get worthless abilities so it don't matter a lot usually. Now a scarf is interesting idea as well. I think any of these mons really can work. Perhaps I will go for the mail route tho personally and switch back to encore for its rare but very useful when it works encore on scarf mons. If and or when this is a sample team the people putting this up should prob make there own choice of what they feel they like best but personally I feel they all can work quite well and as for most teams with stag these options are usually wide open for those teams.

Another couple of noms for gen 7:
:Chansey:
Chansey to S: While this mon is huge and meta defining I have found lately that imposter not being used a whole lot and there is want for other tools. And for its innards out sets theres checks and counters being spammed as of late. Really this mon has just found its sets being checked more in general or used less. Its still a epic choice but not enough to have its own sub rank.
:Mewtwo-Mega-X:
Mewtwo-Mega-X to S+: This is the king of gen 7 PH. I have seen nothing that comes close to the pure amount of usage it has. The amount of power it has. By now everyone should mostly know how good this mon is with its high speed attack and even ability to put to use its high special attack along with decent defs. This mon just finds it self more versatility almost every time I see or use it myself. I find myself almost needing to put it onto teams if I going to add any sort of attacker with pure power or just sweeper in general. Nothing as of late has shown this mon getting any weaker but only better and stronger due to more set discoveries or uses. I truely believe nothing comes close to the sheer amount of utility and power this mon holds due to its typing and stats.

Here are my gen 6 noms

:altaria-mega: C -> B- (no this isn't cause it's my favorite)

Mega Altaria is an excellent support Pokemon with the ability to run countless sets such as Prankster and Magic Bounce, but the real thing that sets it off is Imposter-proofing potential. One of Mega Latios's biggest problems was Imposter-proofing, as little could stand up to its brutal Psystrikes and Spacial Rends, as Pokemon are forced to invest in mixed defense, and the best Pokemon that could switch into this is Mega Mawile. Mega Altaria, however, lets Mega Latios run Spacial Rend, Seed Flare, and Blue Flare/Searing Shot without having to worry about Imposter. This is a huge boon to balance teams as it allows them to play more recklessly with their Mega Latios and lets it shine as an extremely powerful win condition like it should.

:banette-mega: A -> B+

Mega Banette is undoubtedly a strong choice, but it has a lot of flaws and doesn't match up with its A rank or even A- rank brethren. For one, Mega Banette is incredibly slow and mostly relies on Shadow Sneak for speed control; this puts it in a disadvantageous spot against balance teams, as one mispredict can lead to Mega Banette being forced out by Wonder Guards, the kinds of Pokemon Mega Banette is supposed to beat. Shadow Sneak also has to be on the moveset, otherwise Mega Banette has no purpose over Mega Mewtwo X, and this leaves it at a disadvantage vs Mega Mewtwo X because the only Wonder Guards hit by Shadow Sneak are miscellaneous Psychic Wonder Guards, and it doesn't even hit Meloetta, one of the best Psychic Wonder Guards. Finally, Mega Banette just doesn't stand up to the other A ranks; Mega Diancie and Black Kyurem bring much more to the table as speed control and their mere presence strikes fear in the opponent's win condition and as for Gyarados, the combination of a great Wonder Guard typing and a Mold Breaker is incredibly powerful. These should be shown as staples, and Mega Banette feels like a niche option. As for A- Rank, I feel like every Pokemon there brings very useful tools to games and always put in work, where Mega Banette is sort of a matchup thing. It belongs in B+ rank with Pokemon like Registeel and Mega Slowbro.

:yveltal: A- -> A

Yveltal is one of the best Pokemon in the game, simple as that. Its mere existence has caused Mega Gengar, the otherwise best Mold Breaker as it can't be revenge killed by Mega Diancie, to dwindle in usage because Pursuit completely stops any attempts to sweep. It can run just about any ability; it can run Prankster, Magic Bounce, Huge Power, even Poison Heal and have spectacular results. It has shown up so many times, with such consistent results that it completely deserves A Rank. I've never seen an Yveltal have inconsistence or not put in work, it's always a key aspect in all of the games it's in. Seriously, I'd nom it to A+ but it's not at the level of mons like Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Aerodactyl.

:shedinja: :swampert-mega: S -> A

I know this sounds crazy, but bear with me. Mega Swampert is by far the worst S Rank and doesn't contribute nearly as much as the other S Ranks. Every other Pokemon in that rank always contributes to the game in ways other Wonder Guards can't do. Arceus always contributes with its amazing type and high speed. Kyogre always contributes with its massive HP and Special Defense, letting it tank even super effective special hits and be a great Wishpasser. Gyarados always contributes to the game by combining offensive and defensive power in one. Mega Scizor always contributes with itit'ss high Attack stat and STAB U-turn ensuring that it's not passive and its great Steel-typing. Mega Audino always contributes with its very positive matchups against Mold Breaker and its ability to run cleric sets extremely well. Xerneas always contributes with its extremely threatening offensive presence and powerful Wonder Guard typing. Mega Sableye...isn't unique but its amazing typing with its many different immunities and its ability to win the pivot war makes it very valuable in a match. Mega Swampert is either not used at all or it's used like any other Wonder Guard. It just doesn't have room to abuse its Attack stat, and while its Electric immunity is great, think about A Rank. Deoxys-Speed beats almost all of the metagame with Gastro Acid alone, and you don't even know if Regigigas is a Wonder Guard or not with how many sets it can run. Mega Swampert doesn't have these powers. It's rarely a key piece in the match in a way that other Wonder Guards can't achieve; when it's a vital tool in the matchup it's because it's a Wonder Guard. Therefore I think it should drop to A, as it is very on par with Electrode, Genesect, and Mega Manectric.

The Wonder Guard tier rankings are very tricky because the moves that Huge Power pokemon use the most tend to be the very moves that hit the best and most common Wonder Guard pokemon. I don't see Swapert as being any worse than Scizor. They both only have 1 weakness and solid defensive stats. That's about all you can ask for in a Wonder Guard pokemon in ORAS. Among the S tiers, both Scizor and Swampert stand out for having a stacked weakness, but I feel like they make up for it by only having one weakness while Audino, Kyogre, Gyarados, and Xerneas all have 2.

I completely agree that Yveltal should be A tier.

Scizor can:
  • STAB U-Turn + anti sleep to continuously threaten Deo-S and prevent it from just spamming sleep and gastro. Also hits mmy, deo-a, latios/latias on the switch or if they dont have a fire move
  • Powder, while antiquated, allows it to supine opponents, and make them scared to pick a fire move
  • Have more useful moldy resistsances in psychic, dragon, and total immunity to poison / tspikes

Sample submissions again!

Gen 7

:mewtwo-mega-x::scizor-mega::gengar-mega::gengar-mega::meloetta::deoxys-speed: Dual Gengar Offense
The combination of Mega Mewtwo X and Deoxys Speed this generation is incredibly powerful. Mega Mewtwo X can counter all Wonder Guards with its classic set of Photon Geyser/Play Rough/Thousand Arrows/Sacred Fire, and Deoxys Speed thrives on this as it needs Wonder Guards gone in order to sweep. Both of these Pokemon would have a very hard time against Chansey, so I added Magic Guard Mega Gengar, who can ignore Innards Out because of Magic Guard. I added Meloetta in order to improof the Gengar, with Shed Shell. I then needed a second Wonder Guard, and Meloetta paired delightfully with Mega Scizor, so I added it. Mega Scizor is also the Stealth Rock setter, hazard remover, and Trick immunity. By now I needed something to fight Choice Scarf users, so I added my own Choice Scarf Mega Gengar which also gave me utility in the balance matchup for Scarf Trick as well as Shell Smash to sweep as a last resort. Finally, the team struggled against Spore so I changed Meloetta to Safety Goggles.

:zygarde-complete::mewtwo-mega-y::slowbro-mega::groudon-primal::sableye-mega::mewtwo-mega-x: Perish Trap Bulky Offense
Yes this is the Torterra team, but without Torterra. I wanted to build off the concept of an Electrify trapper, and who else could do it better than Zygarde? torterra The main stops to Zygarde were Taunt and Magic Bounce, so I added Mold Breaker PDon which abused anti-status play like this. Both Pokemon struggled against common offense Pokemon and Prankster Spore, so I figured Innards Out Mega Mewtwo Y was a good choice. The moveset may seem strange, but it's meant to be used as a common pressure to sweepers throughout the whole game, not a suicide lead like standard Innards Out MMY are used. It also serves to improof Primal Groudon as the only Wonder Guard that can switch in is Gastrodon. At this point Mega Mewtwo X could trash the whole team, save for a healthy Zygarde, which most players wouldn't even stay in on. To counter it, I added a Mega Slowbro, but used Wonder Guard instead of Fur Coat because I didn't have enough room for Fur Coat. Mega Sableye paired quite well with Mega Slowbro as a Mega Gengar counter and Trick immunity. Finally, the team needed a little bit of speed control, so I added Shell Smash Mega Mewtwo X, which could pull off a sweep by setting up against Wonder Guards, and Mega Slowbro could also handily improof it. Mega Mewtwo X and Primal Groudon made for a powerful offensive core, as Mega Mewtwo X could rid of the possible switch-ins to Primal Groudon, like Mega Swampert and Giratina.

Gen 6

:deoxys-speed::deoxys-speed::venusaur-mega::groudon-primal::diancie-mega::sableye-mega: Dual Deoxys Bulky Offense
When looking for Pokemon that had the ability to be consistent in matchups, what better Pokemon was there than Deoxys Speed? It could clean the other team easily if they lacked sufficient counterplay at the time. To help out with Wonder Guards, I employed Primal Groudon and also enlisted Prankster Mega Venusaur to set up a Substitute to pass it over. I then added Mega Sableye for the Trick switch-in, as Scarf Trick was a problem right now. Accompanying it was Deoxys-Speed, which helped out with the offensive Pokemon that Mega Sableye struggled with, like Mega Latios. Finally, I added Magic Guard Mega Diancie, which was a full counter to Giratina, one of the most threatening Pokemon in the entire game.

These four oras teams have been public for a pretty long time now, but I figured I'd do an official / formal writeup explaining what I was thinking when I made the choices that I made

This is just a super standard 2014 style ph team. It uses a simple bp chain to pass subs into a soul dew latios. I find it kinda struggles vs spikestacks because of the single defog on sciz, but its main goal is to force these kind of teams into playing the short game where they usually can't contest a boosted latios. The biggest and most useful change I can think about on this team is replacing the yvel with ate kyu-b, and I think that synergizes better with the moonblast xern. Moonblast xern helps a lot with a ditto mu vs subpassers, as you can just sit back and break their sub when they pass to a sweeper so your yvel has an easier time knocking or pursuiting. Oblivion wing on latios is for outhealing if you get cursed (or if you need to pass a sub last second and you're under curse) and you heal up a TON when spamming obliv at like +2 or +4. Iron head is a free slot on yvel, you can just switch it to any old move that hits a common wg. I have it set to iron head bc i feel like people usually switch in audis or xerns vs this, but you can just as easily switch to sacred fire or leaf blade etc. Lum on yvel is for taking a spore vs gengar, and you can just pursuit or knock them for a near guaranteed ko.

This team really really relies on playing the long game and picking off defoggers with aero. Tspikes or just toxic in general are pretty much your wincond, and your goal is to get everything toxic'd and outtoxic their aromatherapies. Because of your toxic wincond, I decided to run 2 different sacred fire users since that strat usually gets smashed by sciz or steelix or whatever busted steel they're using. Running tri-wg really helps you with the -atespeed and ohko mu. As for the actual team choices, I chose mence over ray because it's faster and more physically bulky. Double resisting uturns is really useful vs the scizor mu, which again is the one thing that stops this team in its tracks. Water shuriken is to break gengar subs and threaten aero since they both take a TON if it gets more than like 3 hits. Gear grind is just another filler move, you can switch it to whatever move threatens the WGs that you think is the worst for this team. This is probably the worst team out of the bunch, but like the 2nd most fun to use.

I think this is one of my favorite teams that I've ever built because it shows the potential of an offensive tri-wg team. Imo this team is just super consistent and its main goal is just to get latios in to start spamming super high powered mold moves (like that one cb ray team i made a while ago, if anyone still has that paste send it to me please i miss that team). As for the exact team choices, lando is run as a pretty hard counter vs most hugepower mmx, as they usually don't run ice moves and barely ever run water moves unless it's the 2 mmx combo set. Drapion is heavily spdef invested to help the gengar / latios mu, you could change the set around to run lum > shed shell so you have a better chance if you get spored but then you lose vs aero pretty hard. In the end your aero mu doesn't matter too much because you're running tri wg but using lum shouldn't be completely disregarded. Kyogre is a similar set to the one on the mence team but it runs a more offensive EV spread to hit molds under sub / hit aero pretty hard. Diancie is pretty much required because of the kyurem / deo-s matchup, and it smacks both of those mons pretty hard (which is great bc they threaten lando, latios, and tina).

This team is absolutely incredible and it's by far the strongest offensive idea I've ever built around. This just absolutely ABUSES the fact that most of the non-wg meta dies to the kyu-b + deo-s offensive core. As soon as you get one or two mons down, you can usually just go in and clain another couple w/ sheer cold or espeeds or even more moves from the mewtwos. The wg here is completely your choice, I just chose arc since most special attackers don't really have much to hit it. This team is absolutely a blast to use, and I think overall i'm like 15-2 with it in roomtours / challenges, etc. Most of the time you're just playing to score an early KO in the first three turns, and it's incredibly consistent in doing so. The kyurem set is kinda wack and honestly I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to change to a more standard set or like sd > thousand arrows, but overall it performs pretty well. The only thing that would make this team better is a consistent rocks setter, so take that as you will if you decide to change it up.

Usually most of my strange choices on teams have a pretty solid purpose, so I hope this post kind of dispels (probably fact-based) rumors that I build without keeping certain strats in mind. Usually I'm a pretty deliberate builder, but my best teams tend to be ones that I experiment with a lot and they just kinda stick. At the moment I have a pretty long list of ideas and mons that I want to make work in the format, but it'll probably be a while until i decide to make another one of these teamdump and description posts, since I'm a very very slow builder.

mons on my radar for the future:
