The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

The Falcons are having the kind of season that they were supposed to have last year.... we won... at the expense of losing Michael Turner and Matt Ryan. Good job by Chris Redman being able to come into the game and lead the falcons to an emotional late victory :).

Now Michael Vick comes back to town

fucking steelers almost pulled it off but...fuck you Big Ben and Troy for injuring yourselves at the WORST POSSIBLE FUCKING TIME EVER.

My fantasy teams also imploded...terrible week :(

For the first time this year, I might actually go undefeated (4-0) in my fantasy leagues. :X Unfortunately, this is not yet set in stone... I don't have much cushion over the projected against Brady/NE (Def) in one league, where another I've got a sizable-but-not-impossible 40+ lead against Brees/MaLOLney remaining.

Ravens almost made me burst a blood vessel. Way to not put that game away by the end of the first half, sheesh. :[

it's whatever waterbomb. yeah it's a tough loss, but we had our 3rd string QB out there. the rest of our schedule is cupcake-quality. i think we have a better shot than anyone at getting a wild card spot.

Yeah it was a good game. I think Steelers fans can find comfort knowing you almost beat us in overtime with the 3rd string QB. Ravens just commit way too many dumb mistakes at the end of the game to deserve to win these. If it's another close one in a few weeks, I expect Big Ben to lead you guys to victory as usual.

Playoffs are not out of the picture for either team. Steelers probably get it though as we still have to play next week monday night at Green Bay and Steelers again. And don't forget the... gasp... Raiders in Oakland!? Jacksonville is a terrible team, so it should be Baltimore and Pittsburgh fighting for the last playoff spot, assuming Denver doesn't implode again and holds onto the other spot.

yeah jacksonville still has to play indy and new england. plus i could see them losing to houston or miami.

denver plays indy and philly...they also play oakland and kc twice. :\

baltimore plays green bay, detroit, chicago, pittsburgh, and oakland.

pittsburgh plays oakland, cleveland, green bay, baltimore, and miami.

i'm not going to bother checking up on the 6 or so teams at 5-5 or so but assuming things play out as they should...green bay is going to have a lot of say on who will be the 6th wild card. if both baltimore and pittsburgh win their next 3 games, the rematch is basically going to decide who advances into the playoffs (unless the steelers lose to miami or something lol)

hahahha the steelers lost.. made my night. Another thing that would make this night is the saints losing... I would lol so hard to see the ESPN analysis' jump off the saints bandwagon in a heartbeat.

Well at least the Pats got rolled but up by ~43 and getting 60 dropped on me by Brees/Maroney combined kinda puts a damper on the whole thing. :( It's just impossible for me to go 4-0 with that kind of bogus every week.

I know how you feel. I was down by 65 with Brees and Colston and put up 53, as Brees was just teasing me. Maybe if Brees had thrown to Colston AT ALL in the first half I might've pulled it off. My other team also had a 15 point lead going against little Devery Henderson...and little did I know he'd pick this week to go nuts. I lost to two teams this week with a combined record of 4-16 :(

Stats of the Week No. 3: Cincinnati swept its division games, going 6-0; five of the last six teams to sweep their division games reached the Super Bowl. (Courtesy of TMQ)

power rankings take 2. if you remember my old ones from week 4 you may remember:

9. 49ers - Not much to say, only loss is to 2nd ranked team, willis is a good player. Division should be a lock.
5. Jets - Only lost is to 1st ranked team, defeated 7th ranked Patriots. Rex Ryan and the defense are doing great things, and the offense at least has some threats.
12. Bears

how the mighty have fallen. so heres take 2 with explanations and intro:

these are power rankings, not standings. if a team is good enough, then they are higher on the list. now if your team has more wins, it obviously means you are better than some other teams but this isn't always the case. some teams collapse, others rise, and some look fine, even while losing.

1.) Saints - Anyone you felt they were frauds before last night has been proven wrong in my opinion. Drew Brees became the first player to ever put up 5 touchdowns on a BB coached Patriots team, and I am certain he will be the only to do so. Don't also forget the Saints had some injuries such as Reggie Bush.
2.) Colts - I'll say right now, I think the Colts have a better shot of going 16-0 than the Saints. That also being said, I would rather play against the Colts than the Saints right now, just based on explosiveness which is why the Saints are 1 in my book. The colts do have their own explosiveness and 11-0 is an amazing feat, not to mention they have the experience. But the chance to make a legit statement is in the Titans game this week. Just like the Saints, I think they need to win big.
3.) Vikings - Favre is almost the MVP of this season (sorry but Brees and Manning are just more valuable). The vikings don't even look like they try.
4.) Patriots - I put the Pats at number 4, despite the record. They have the experience, coaching and QB. And they still look like a great team, despite last nights loss. Don't let it fool you, the Pats are beatable. But there is almost no tougher place to play during playoff season than NE. I also feel NE still has a better shot at the HF advantage than Cinci, who I think are going to lose twice more, and perhaps the Chargers, as I can't help but worry about Norv Turner coaching your team.
5.) Chargers - 6 game winning streak, LT has hit a stride, and Rivers is going all Phillip Rivers. It is a toss-up of who wins the 2 seed for the AFC and even though I pick the Patriots, the Chargers have a shot.
6.) Bengals - Despite the fact that they would win the tiebreaker for the 2 seed if all teams finish with the same record, I feel Cinci will lose twice more, especially after hitting a bit of a decline (losing to Oakland and not dominating the Browns).
7.) Titans - Wait a second? The Titans? A team that started 0-6? Well heres the real deal, They are 5-0 since then, with 9 straight victories with Vince Young as a starter, and he has swagger. Not to mention the best running back in Football right now is on this team. And the defense is getting healthy and better. Thank god for those 6 losses because I don't know if there is any team as confident or as hot as the Titans right now.
8.) Broncos - After 4 straight losses, they kept their composure by smashing NYG. I think this team, with 2 more games against the Chiefs with 1 against Oakland, should be in a good situation to go 10-6, and maybe even 11-5.
9.) Cowboys - Tis the season... Despite their Christmas woes, I feel they will have a decent performance. Their division is such a mess that I feel it is a lock, and I feel that just maybe, they will be the team to defeat the Saints. Maybe...
10.) Packers - Penalties and Sacks Allowed kill a team. But the Packers have stayed strong. A lot will be revealed against the Ravens, but I can't help but wonder if Aaron Rodgers name will be tossed up in the MVP debate.
11.) Ravens
12.) Steelers
13.) Cardinals
14.) Eagles
15.) Giants
16.) Falcons
17.) Texans
18.) Dolphins
19.) Jets
20.) 49ers
21.) Jaguars
22.) Bills
23.) Panthers
24.) Bears
25.) Seahawks
26.) Redskins
27.) Chiefs
28.) Raiders
29.) Rams
30.) Buccaneers
31.) Lions
32.) Browns

Playoff Scenario:

AFC
Broncos vs Chargers
Ravens vs Bengals
---
Chargers vs Patriots
Ravens vs Colts
---
Chargers vs Colts
---
NFC
Giants vs Cowboys
Packers vs Cardinals
---
Cowboys vs Vikings
Cardinals vs Saints
---
Vikings vs Saints

Super Bowl:
Vikings vs Colts - 34-20

Steelers have dropped 3 straight and are very questionable to me. But if the Ravens don't go to playoffs, the Steelers will (taking their place).

The Titans are just a bit too far behind, they are unfortunately a 9-7 team at the end of the year.

Despite the fact that I have the Vikes ranked 3rd in my Power Rankings, I believe (despite their past failures), they are the team I would bet on for the Super Bowl; As long as Favre stays healthy.

MVP: Peyton Manning.

Take away Brees from the Saints, or Favre from the Vikings. Do they do as good as they are now? Probably not. But that doesn't matter, they still are good teams. The Vikings last year showed they could be playoff bound without Favre.

But take away Manning. No shot that the Colts perform as good as they currently do. In fact, I would go as far to say they would likely have a losing record, possibly 4-7 or 5-6. That is how much Manning means to this team (look at all the close games they have had. Manning has held them together through them all).

LOL, I would be very surprised if the Vikings made the Super Bowl, and I would shit my pants if they won. The Vikings may appear to be a very good team, but they will still find a way to lose in the games that matter (imagine the Steelers game but ten times worse). Even if the team that they are playing against is infinitely inferior to them (lol, 1998 NFC Championship game), the Vikings will find a way to lose. It doesn't matter that they have a stacked team and really should be 11-0 with their weak schedule, they will lose when they have to play against teams like New Orleans, Indianapolis, etc.

In other news, I went in to last night's game tied at 82 in the fantasy league where the most money is at stake (now in 1st place after week 12) with Brady, Welker, and Carney left to go against Colston. Thinking I had the game in hand, I stopped watching during the 3rd quarter, only to check back later to see that I had won.... by one point ._. Brady is the worst fucking QB in the NFL, putting up a massive 7 fantasy points against a bunch of free agents.

kd24 you have the jags a bit too low and the titans a bit too high. they are both in the same ballpark though. and imo the steelers are a better overall team than the ravens. missing troy polamalu and big ben, with a 3rd string QB in his first start, they still took the game into overtime... u_u.

In other news, the falcons got rid of Jason Missem and signed Matt Bryant. Hopefully special teams can be respectable again...

Colts most likely to go 16-0?

The Colts don't care about going undefeated, they just want to lock up home field advantage and keep their starters fresh for the playoffs. Why would they deviate from that now? It's not like they've never been 11-0 before

As for the Saints...

Also I'm thoroughly convinced that the Steelers will dominate for the rest of the season. Never has anyone sounded so convincing as Tomlin after the loss to Ravens. I truly believe they will "Unleash Hell" upon the rest of the league.
