The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

@tad: i know they find ways to lose but i just have to pick them to go to the super bowl. although new orleans is crazy right now (homewise and talentwise), i just feel like if it comes down to vikings vs saints, the saints will dig themselves into a hole that a vikings team, who should be getting healthier on secondary, and has a dominating presence up front, won't let them get back in. i could be wrong of course, but have faith!

@steeler: suggs was out, ngata may still be injured slightly, lewis had a bad ankle iirc, and reed was sick, as well as had a slight injury. troy and ben being out are still more devastating to the steelers than our injuries to the ravens, and i would not be surprised at all to see the steelers get that last slot. it depends on week 16, ravens @ steelers. should be a good one, and i wish your team luck. hopefully both teams will be free of any current injuries and it will be a good game.

concerning the jags and titans, the jags barely scratched one out against the bills and don't truly impress me with some really bad losses on there resume (41-0, 20-3, both to nfc west teams). the titans however, started off ridiculously bad but i would argue they are playing as good as football out there as some of the higher ranked teams, standings wise. i know 59-0 and some bad losses, but there is no denying they are hot, and i would not want to play the best runningback in football right now.

my power rankings are more of a "whos hot, whos not, who would['nt] i want to play, and who do i feel is playoff bound.

that ravens/steelers game is going to be very intense.

i'm actually pretty surprised that the ravens are in this position right now, i thought they'd be in the bengals' position after the first few weeks. they've played a really tough schedule, though. last year was a REALLY good year to place first in your division, what with new england and indy both placing second. losing games to minnesota and indy (both very very good teams) that they frankly should have won will do that to you. the same thing to the steelers, in every game they've lost, they've entered the 4th quarter with the lead or tied. :\ both teams should have like 8 wins at least right now, and i think it's a shame that only one team is likely to make it into the playoffs.

I still feel the 49ers have a decent chance of beating out the Cardinals for the NFC West: consider that during this time last year, the Cardinals went on a nasty 4 game losing streak, before finally getting their act together (in addition to their usual past suckiness). And surprise surprise, they just lost to the Titans, will lose to the Vikings this upcoming game, then drop another one to the 49ers. Granted, after that they would have to fuck up real bad to lose to the Lions or Rams, but the Packers just may beat them. Incidentally, the 49ers have upcoming games against the Rams and Lions as well, but they face the Eagles, which are certainly beatable if the bloody Raiders can beat them of all people (certainly less challenging than the Vikings in any event, which we would have beat had it not been for that...TD...). Regardless, the Monday night game with 49ers/Cardinals is a crucial one for the 49ers, as a win will guarantee them the playoff spot should they end up tying each other's records because of the divisional win.

Also adding a Super Bowl with unbeaten Colts/Saints would be an awesome event.

Saints are fantasy busters because WE DON'T CARE ABOUT FANTASY FOOTBALL HAAAAAAAA

LOL, I would be very surprised if the Vikings made the Super Bowl, and I would shit my pants if they won. The Vikings may appear to be a very good team, but they will still find a way to lose in the games that matter (imagine the Steelers game but ten times worse). Even if the team that they are playing against is infinitely inferior to them (lol, 1998 NFC Championship game), the Vikings will find a way to lose. It doesn't matter that they have a stacked team and really should be 11-0 with their weak schedule, they will lose when they have to play against teams like New Orleans, Indianapolis, etc.

tad, you know I like you, but SHUT THE FUCK UP. Your team has lost ONE FUCKING GAME all season long, you have NOTHING to complain about. Your defense has no discernible weak points and your offense has weapons falling out its ass and appears to move down the field at will. If I see one more self-deprecating post from you about how much your team is going to shit the bed, I'm going to lose my fucking mind.

am I the only one that doesnt care about Fantasy Football here? I mean its cool and all but its tiring reading about how people didnt get the points they wanted.. its like grrr who cares. Not moderating the thread or anything just voicing my opinion.. its not just here but the media and random people in my work area too. Just been bugging me.

and lol@americandream.. have some faith in your team and let them play out the games first before you count them out. X-1 is fucking amazing this time of year and you have one of the best offenses in football atm. Repeating what DM said pretty much but I agree.

This is not a fantasy football thread. It is one of the reasons I only visit this thread to post statistics or quotes now - I never want to hear anyone talk (moan) about losing their fantasy football games by the monday night game or whatever. Great, you could have won, but you did not. Talk about the football game instead!

the topic title says EVERYTHING nfl, imaginary leagues that use its players are included :)

hey dm what do you think of perry fewell? the bills are looking slightly competitive again.

Give the ball to Fred Jackson!

I find it funny that my team (Steelers) are 6-5 and I am finding positive and encouraging things about how they're playing, and tad's team is 10-1 and he's determined they'll blow it somehow. Sheesh man, either you're a brilliant reverse psychologist or you just enjoy being a nay-sayer. Nobody could legitimately think this year's Vikings are going to choke/blow it. If they lose, it'll be in a close game against a team who is as good or better than them. It won't be them blowing it.

As for y'all complaining about us talking fantasy football, I used to feel the same way. This year I tried fantasy football for the first time and damn it I got hooked immediately. It opens your eyes to so much more info to be learned about the NFL and its workings, and gives you added reasons to watch multiple games besides your own team's. I enjoy everything about fantasy football, including the frustrations of losing close games or having your team completely lay an egg in a bad week. The advertisements are true--it really does enhance your NFL experience.

Well tad is right, since the Vikings are historic failures and are destined to lose forever and ever.

For that matter, I wonder how the Ravens-Packers game turns out... I like both teams, but it's hard to choose a side...
However, the Vikings will always and miserably fail.
History backs me up...

History also said that a 6th seed had never won the Super Bowl...

Pittsburgh did it.

History said that only one team had ever gone 16-0...

New England did it.

Fuck history, make your own.

See, Mr. E knows what I'm talking about! It's like the Cubs, they'll never win, no matter how good they are or how close they get.
seriously? did you see who represented the NFC last year in the Super Bowl? the Cardinals. THE CARDINALS. they didn't win, but shit, the Saints haven't been to the Super Bowl either and have had a terrible history as a franchise, but I still believe in them. WHO DAT baby

At least the Dolphins managed a Super Bowl win as well in their undefeated season, unlike yester yester year's losers...

Then again, no one gave the Cardinals a chance last year, and they went on to the Super Bowl. Even the Chargers almost made it last year despite a 8-8 record.

the bills have lost 10 straight prime time games, dating back to 2001...

so glad i picked up jamaal charles and not fred jackson. x)

Your assertion that I need to have played fantasy football to understand it is not to be insulted is utterly misdirected WaterBomb. I played 3 years and nearly always did well! Then I realized talking about it to people and focusing on shit like players scoring fantasy points rather than them playing the game made me a douchebag.

The Vikings have faced teams a combined 39-71 or something; they have a killer offensive line and should contend no matter what, but they certainly might have an inflated record at 10-1!

hey dm what do you think of perry fewell? the bills are looking slightly competitive again.

Being competitive doesn't always get you wins. Fewell gets the guys pumped, but he doesn't get the results. Fitzpatrick is a great placeholder for the QB we pick in the next draft.

Huh? All I said was that I used to feel the same way as DM about people talking about fantasy football, then I played it and enjoyed it. I didn't say or even imply that one has to play it to understand it, I was just saying that in my case PERSONALLY my view changed once I had played it. I was trying to make a case for it for anyone that hasn't played before that they might consider giving it a try. My post was not directed at any one person in particular. Where did you get all this from?

vikings, Saints, and Colts have all played bad teams...best team the Vikings have played are the Packers..

saints and Colts have only really played NE...Saints crushed them. The Colts SHOULD have lost...

but, I can't think of a "best team in the league"
The Saints probably are....no one can go into their dome and win
The Chargers are playing well...the Vikings beat the fuck out of everyone(I know they're bad teams...but the Colts just squeak by these bad teams)...so they have to be up there....idk
