Walt Disney just bought... Marvel?

Just... wow. I am baffled with this. What does this mean to all comics lovers? Also, something I haven't quite understood, has Disney seized control of only Marvel's movie department or does it own the comic part as well?

I am sorta worried Disney tries to "tone down" the violence and other aspects of the movies/comics, however, I feel slightly confident that maybe they will be smarter than that and won't just cater to a younger audience. And, well, The Incredibles was a pretty awesome flick... I'm gonna go and wait to see what comes out of this.

As long as its a relationship like they have with Pixar and Marvel gets to have most of the creative control over their products then I will be happy. This also might be good for the future Marvel Movies coming out, being able to have more money and being able to afford good actors to return multiple times.

Interesting... I don't believe Disney will try their hand at "toning down" or what ever you might call it the comic book stories. Disney is full of marketing geniuses. Besides, there are some movies that you wouldn't expect Disney to have a part with, because of their kid friendly attitude, like the Sixth Sense.

I'm intrigued by the new possibilities this opens up...Marvel has been growing stale for me ever since SpiderMan 3.

What's the matter, Disney - you aren't satisfied with having movies, TV channels, and theme parks?

Seriously, though - as long as the comics aren't affected, I'm fine with this. Though I personally see myself as more of a DC fan, I still enjoy Marvel comics a lot. If Disney's marketing people truly are geniuses, as Pink implies, then I'm confident they will give plenty of creative freedom to the Marvel people and won't try to tone down everything for their younger audience.

Kingdom Hearts with Marvel characters! :naughty:

Spider-Man+Keyblade=Win.

hahaha god the possibilities are endless... marvel heroes toys on toy story, the punisher hunts hannah montana, and ... donald the duck vs. howard the duck?!

I find this a bit odd, but this could have some interesting possibilities...wonder how future Kingdom Hearts game will work...

I just hope they don't tone down the action in the comics, but I doubt this will happen really.

These would be awesome.

I do not see how it could mean anything particularly bad for comics. Yeah, censorship is annoying and infuriating, if it would even happen, but artists and writers already routinely censor themselves, so the same % of great comics would exist.

Disney used to own the rights to insane clown posse I think. I dunno if they still do, but I remember insane clown posse not being happy about the arrangement.

I think it was them.

Have a nice day.

I really hope disney doesn't affect the comics or the action. And I really hope they don't make stupid movies with someone like Miley Cyrus beating up Wolverine.

This could either turn out horrible or amazing. I'm hoping for the latter, as I love marvel.

Disney probably wouldn't mesh Marvel characters in with anything that's an original production. They'll probably just provide the budgets and give them creative freedom.

Seriously doubt they'd tone anything down. Even Disney's classics have some adult themes to them. I don't know about you guys but "The Brave Little Toaster"'s clown thing is still pretty horrific to me.

I doubt that they'll mess with Marvel's creative freedom or mash anything together. If anything, they'll put a Marvel world in the next Kingdom Hearts. Disney made a good move, realizing that Marvel is making a ton of money, especially in the movie industry. I just think it's going to be Disney calling the shots on what Marvel is to produce, but not how Marvel produces anything.

Yeah I see KH with marvel characters soon O_O KH has always been a cool videogame series, just comes to show that not all disney things are child related, disneychannel is the culprit behind this train of thought

as long as marvel maintains creative control, i see no problem. though honestly, i don't see how it will be possible with marvel having vamped up the violence and made every more support for gay heroes, things that disney might be against....

Uh, you probably won't see Marvel characters in Kingdom Hearts. The Disney name probably won't be used in Marvel at all. Disney doesn't just do the family friendly fare you're used to. They release many movies under different names, like Touchstone Pictures, when they don't want the Disney brand associated with it.

Disney ABC is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. Maybe you'll see less (or no) "Blame it on Comic Books" stories on ABC News, but this won't be affecting what you get in your comic books much.

Oh and fuck Kingdom Hearts, I want Warren Spectre's Mickey Mouse game:

I am desperately hoping this game is still in production.

Definitely surprising to me...don't think anyone saw this coming. But yeah, don't really expect anything to change at the same time; as kid-conscious as Disney is directly with their material (Mickey Mouse and stuff), they're fairly open-handed when it comes to subsidiaries not "directly" in lieu with the Mouse (Miramax and Matrix, Touchstone Pictures, etc). Only thing is, Disney now makes all the money from it.

Overall, I think this is a great move for Marvel. Not only does Disney offer them the monetary support that every company wants, but they also open doors in terms of licensing for movies and video games.

have any of you guys played the turok reboot? Its made by touchstone, a branch of disney. It is a bloody, bloody game. Disney is a business. If iron man blowing people to bits sells, it will sitll be in print.
