League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

you shouldn't practice in bot games period... last hitting isn't the same in a bot game as it is in a real game.

use bot games to get your win of the day and nothing more.

The timing of last hits is different in bot games but you can still learn the core basics. They're also good for learning the ranges on spells for new champs.

I see your guys' point, and I agree with you to an extent, but I don't see how bot games are bad for practice. I mean, obviously they're easier. Much easier. I am well aware of how easy bot games are, I hope I'm not giving the impression that I think anything but.

That said, they give you a stress free environment where you can practice last hitting (last hitting is the same no matter how you do it...), figure out builds, and get more comfortable overall with your character. They're also quicker than normals.

If I was serious about League I would agree with you guys, but if I just wanna be good enough to not feed when I'm playing with friends, I don't honestly see the problem with playing a few bot games.

Bots are for trying out champions to get a feel for how they play. Bot games are great for figuring out champion spell rotations. I don't use them to practice for a real game. Use real games to practice for other real games because you're not going to deal with stuff with junglers, zoning, and lane harrassment in a bot game.

I just wanted to play a bot game to see how i liked the champ and have fun... sorry it won't happen again -_-

Pretty much anything you could do in a bot game, you could do in a custom game.

I mean, play a few bot games at the beginning when you are first learning how to actually control your character and play the game. After that though, you really don't have anything to gain but bad habits.

AA cancels and spell ranges are about all you can learn without opposition, otherwise you're not getting the other key concepts down.

Been playing Skarner a lot, he single handedly has taken me from +25 wins over losses in normal games to +55. Also 7-1 with him in ranked.

I'm really more of a mid player, can't really jungle anyone else at a high level and I'm not sure what it is I just think everyone underestimates Skarner and before they know it they're dead. Most people simply don't seem to know that he is one of the best duelists in the game.

Just went 14/3/14 as Orianna (in blindpick) and ended the game with like 650 AP. At 450, 550, and 650 AP I said in all chat how much AP I had. I also had the most kills of any player. And yet the enemy players continued going glass cannon or stacking armor. I went Boots/2xDorans/RDC core but by the end of the game I had Sorcs/RDC/Zhonya's/Abyssal/Lich/Blasting Wand (for Rylai's I guess?). Felt like a bot game.

Rylai's on any champ that has no targeted non-dot spells is a bad idea. Dfg or Void Staff or Morello's or whatever is better on Orianna. I've never gone lich on her, although I've considered it with how much her passive encourages autoattacking and how smooth her aa animation feels to me. Another thing I've always contemplated doing is building wota somewhere. She has a lot of AoE damage so it sounds like it should be fun. Also yeah Orianna is the most fun mid ever!

Yeah, I was thinking more about the health from Rylai's more than the slow. You're right though. Lich worked pretty well in that game for blowing up the last few turrets. I don't even know if it was significant in fights because I was mostly blowing people up before I got in range to do too many AAs.

Just started playing a few days ago, and I'm still only getting used to the game, have no clue what the hell to do with masteries/runes yet and just plagiarize from guides :). I personally like Annie and Alistar so far.

copying masteries and runes from guides is smart as long as the guide is of good quality and is up to date - lolpro is a huge offender when it comes to that later

http://solomid.net/ and http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/ are two pretty good resources I still use from time to time.

Masteries will be easy as long as you keep some general rules in mind -- always take indomitable and juggernaut if you're going that far into defense, demolitionist and scout are generally weak, mastered summoner spells are generally strong, don't get AP on a champion that doesn't scale well off of it, etc.

Also, don't forget to pick up Alistar and Tristana as permanently unlocked free champions!

Don't use the strategy tabs or comments of LoL wiki please... :( It's a fantastic resource for information on the game (I probably visit it daily), but, partly by 'virtue' of its format, it's really not a good source of champion advice. Use approved solomid guides or lolpro guides, or ask around here and #tf2. As you get better at the game, you'll develop some critical thinking skills to separate shitty guides from the good ones, but for now solomid and lolpro should serve you well :D

Here's something you need to do before hitting level 20: save dat IP. SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE. You can spend it after you are 20, but you want to make sure that you have plenty of IP to fill up your rune page when you are level 20 so that you can play with your favorite champ(s) at the fullest potential. I had around 17k IP at level 20 and I do not regret a single thing for having waited that long.

Edit: On a different note, Support Orianna is insanely fun.

Runes are stupid expensive. I have two pages. Both use armor seals and mr/lvl glyphs. For AD I have ArPen marks and AD Quints. AP is MRpen marks and AP Quints. I want to add two pages with armor marks on both and movement speed Quints on one for jungle and some avarice Quints on the other for supports but it is so expensive that I just dont feel like it is worth it. The price for the rune page in particular is outrageous.

Friend asks me if we wanna play another bots game, he makes it this time and we troll and fight over jungle in champ select as usual, enough to agitate Darius for some unknown reason, aaaaaand then in the loading screen we find out it's blind pick (premades?). The thing that makes this game memorable is the fact that an almost legitimate team comp could lose so hard -- thanks Draven! Also turns out that Shen+Twitch causes uncontrollable butt rupture ganks

jarvan's dunk combo has got to be one of the most satisfying combos in the entire game
like seriously

the only combo that even comes close to it is graves's buckshot-ult

Do yourself a favor and just buy the rune bundle.

Spend $20 on a free to play game? Also, I only need like two more pages. Don't see myself spending enough on runes to need seven more pages.

So kept having people dodge in normal draft. Every time it would be me, a two man-premade and one other guy on my team with a new person as the fifth pick every time it came back after a dodge. The premade wanted top and mid. Even though I wanted mid I decided to be cool and take support. The fourth person who was on the team every time wanted ad ranged. After three dodges in a row we get this stupid guy named hoponmydick (he had numbers in there in place of letters like a douche) who after I make the last ban calls mid. Everyone else made their calls before first ban. AND he had last pick. So he should have just sucked it up and jungled. He just says "mid" like four more times. When I explain it's been called and ask if he can jungle he sits in silence. Then the top from the premade takes Karthus "because they banned Swain." Then the guy with fifth pick takes LeBlanc. "I called mid" We had Leona, Trist, Ahri, Karthus, LeBlanc. wtf. Trist queue dodged and I clicked out of queue super fast to avoid those idiots.
