speaking for all of red sox nation when i say we hate lackey too, and its not because of the divorce. highest era in team history with 150+ innings? quite the lovable character in the fair laid back sports town of boston.

ps: ozzie guillen (the manager) was reportedly traded to the marlins for two minor leaguers xDDD

edit: apparently he was just given his release, which is not nearly as funny

He was given his release, with the stipulation that the White Sox receive compensation if he is to coach for a different team next year. Meaning that if the Marlins want to sign them (which they do), they'll have to give SOMETHING to the White Sox. It's still funny, just over a period of time.

Yeah you can't technically trade managers. But it has the same effect.

I'm really impressed that the Wsox actually got value back from him.

Gutless Angels are gutless. Why are the tigers cursed so that whenever they need to wrap something up, the other team goes on a perfect streak and catches them?

Rangers wrap up the 2 seed, Yankees/Rays down to the wire and Braves/Phillies too. This has to be the most exciting last day of the season ever.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

most exciting shit ever

I was at the Rays game. The whole stadium went crazy and that was probably one of the best baseball games I have ever / will ever witness.

P.S. Red Sux. Welcome back to losing streaks Boston, it's really where you belong.

Haha good catch. Come two series' from now and that's what you and me will be shouting about Mike Napoli while Scioscia is stuffing his face with pastries while choking back tears.

The moral of the story, raiding your farm system and signing overpaid busts in FA is how you LOSE.

Developing young talent (Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, remember those guys?) is how you WIN.

Fire Theo Epstein and hire a guy who understands that the key to success, regardless of what sport you compete in, is to develop your youth and use free agency selectively, with regard to team fit and chemistry.

Actually the Red Sox have generally been one of the better drafting teams in terms of their drafting philosophy (having money to draft for over slot value helps), and they have seen a lot of their home grown talent develop well...

Bad luck Boston? WHO CARES. The only thing that would've made yesterday better would've been the worst fantasy team ever beating pookar.

Contrary to popular belief, the Yankees did not win 27 WS by outspending everyone. They won by good scouting; the vast majority of their HOF players (ranging from Joe DiMaggio to Derek Jeter) were farm system guys. Yes they're the biggest market in baseball and they will outspend other teams. But this is a major leap from saying that they *bought* their titles.

The Yankees built a great team with homegrown players in the 90s. In the 2000s they used that Steinbrenner money to buy another title, and failed miserably, year after year after year. Now, granted, the Red Sox weren't exactly a model of home grown farm fresh talent even in 2004, but at least they got guys who were YOUNG, and the old guys they got were low-risk quality starters, not high-risk overpaid busts. Now, they followed the 2000 Yankees/Mets model, and it blew up in their faces.
