ORAS OU World of Blue - Rain Offensive

186MS.png

I wanted to make a rain team, so the obvious choices where polioed for drizzle and mega swampert for the crushing strength and speed under rain.

260-mega.png

I need something to cover the glaring grass weakness of mega swampert and politoed. Scizor was the perfect answer with his 4x resistance to grass and he greatly appreciates the x4 fire weakness turning into a x2 weakness.

Outside scizor i needed another pokemon that would be able to counter mega venusaur, be able to get rid of entry hazards. Latias was the perfect answer to this question.

For my 5th spot i wanted a pokemon that could abuse the Rain but not be reliant on it too much so my team wouldnt get devoured outside the rain (just like latias basically) And for this i choose Tornadus-therian

For the last spot I wanted another swift swimmer to abuse the rain a bit more. This mon should be able to tear through entire teams under the rain.
I went with my old love Kabutops.
The Team
swampert-mega.gif
Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Atk / 108 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Rain Dance

Swampert is my late game sweeper once his counters are being taken care off he becames a treathening force.
I gave him 108 speed so will have under rain a speed of 406 which is needed to outspeed all OU pokemons without a scarf. 252 attack EVs for to be able to hit as hard as possible. I put the remaining 148 EVs into his HP for the extra bulk so he can set up his own rain if needed.

Waterfall is such an amazing move, its stronger than EQ under rain and it has the posibility to flinch opposing pokemon.
Earthquake is a very nice stab move for when opposing walls are immune for water attacks or when the rain is down and i cant afford to set up rain.
Ice Punch is a very coverage move to hit incomming grasstypes very hard.

It is also an option to run Super Power instead of ice punch but since I already have scizor with this move i didnt see any urgent need for it and an ice move is always nice to have.

186.gif

Politoed @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Hypnosis
- Encore
- Rest

This is a very generic poltoed set which has served me well. Scald boosted by rain is a very strong move even without SpA investment and getting burns off on opposing mons is always welcome. It also forces out (in the end) my opponents Heal Bell/Aromatherapy user and gives me the chance to put them to sleep with Hypnosis (even with the utter shite 60% acc)
Rest lets me squeeze the max out of my Drizzletoed and get rid of status ailments with ease.
Encore helps me to lockstat uppers and finish them off with a correspoding counter (exaple is BD azumarill, 96 speed EVs let me outspeed her and lock her in BD).

212.gif

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Knock Off

Now you see mega diancie and now its gone.
Realy though bullet punch + band + technician + STAB is a very strong move and it even has priority. It really is a very good move and the priority makes it a very big threat to faster mons.
U-Turn is on his set to keep momentum high on my part of the team and can give huge dents in pokemon that switchin on scizor and then get an appriopriate counter against them.
Superpower is a very good move and lets me take off pokemon that love to switch in on a predicted bullet punch (for example on diancie) and have them in KO range.
It also has to be noted (even if it is realy obvious) that scizor loves to be in rain teams since it turns his only weakness which is 4x fire into a 2x fire weakness. Still its not smart to stay in on fire moves but when I cant afford to switch in a different pokemon it will help.
Knock Off is a great utility move to get rid of stall items or to hit Lati@s realy hard. And who doesnt love the smack an item off your opponents pokemon?

141.gif

Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Jet

Kabutops is one of my favorit fossil pokemon in the game and with the ability of Swift Swim he becomes a giant threat vs many pokemon and is able to sweep entire teams after 1 or 2 Swords Dances. With Stone Edge I dont have to fear many flying type mons and pokemon such as zard and talonflame get anniliated Even tho the accuracy has let me down every now and then.
Waterfall is just like on swampert a very very strong stab move and is able to tear through entire teams with 1x SD under the rain.
Aqua Jet is on his set over Low Kick to be able to get in a kill when for example the rain is gone or when i know my opponent will use a priority move the get in some last chip dmg before he faints.

380.gif
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

I didnt want to run rapid spin on kabutops sicne I wanted his main role to be a sweeper. So Latias main role is to be able to counter common rain threats with Psyshock such as but limited to: Keldeo, Breloom, Conkeldurr, Gengar, Mega Venusaur, and Amoonguss.
Defog is to get rid of entryhazards, since I do not use hazards of my own its prefered to use defog so I cannot be spinblocked by ghost types. I will have to look out for Defiant users such as bisharp that i do not give them a free swords dance.
Draco Meteor is one of the strongest attacks Latias has acces to and witht he boost from LO it can tear a new one in most switch ins on latias (which most of the times will be fairy types)
Healing Wish gives me the opportunity to basically revive a sweeper and when the pokemon latias is supposed to check are taken care off. This way I can fully restore Mega Swampert for a last steamroll till the finish line.

641-therian.gif

Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 132 HP / 160 SpA / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Since I still didnt have a mon that had a move like thunder/hurricane I went with Tornadus-Therian. a 100% accurate Hurricane with STAB is strong and takes off many grass types that like to hide under my rain (and the chance to get confuse hax is always welcome).
His ability regenerator is really gift from Poseidon and lets him abuse it by taking a hit and pivoting out with u-turn.
Focus Blast is to OHKO or atleast 2 HKO pokemon like ferrothorn (who wouldnt take much dmg at all from Superpower) and Heatran, heatran will mostlikely be taken care of by swampert but you never know when you are going to need it.
Knock Off just like with Scizor, it just a great utility move and it is always welcome to get tid of rocky helmets/left overs/ specs/LO of my opponent.

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite

Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD

How dare my name only be 86 on the list.
Now onto the rate.
First of all, I personally think Latias should run Roost instead of Healing Wish so it can function as a Keldeo Check. Next, 400 speed isn't enough to outspeed Mega Manectric or Mega Lopunny because they are are 405 Speed.

This is indeed true, GrimoireGod also pointed this out to me over pm and suggested me to run 108 speed EVs so i would top out on 406 speed under rain.
Thanks for pointing this out still :D

First, on I would suggest Ice Beam > Hypnosis on the frog. If Focus Miss has 70% accuracy, and Hypnosis has 55%.... yeah. Ice beam hits the dragons that resist scald.
Second, On latias, Roose > Healing Wish is appreciated to beat Keldeo, and to consistently beat Landorus (lacking Knock off)

Nice Rain team, btw.

I just said that :/

hey Extinction, nice team!
Let me get right into the rate.
First thing i noticed about your team were listed in the following point(s) below:

  • No Stealth Rocks

Now, I know you'd think Rain offense doesn't necessarily need Stealth Rock because you have one mission, Set up rain, and spam. Having Stealth Rock is important on any competitive team because it applies offense pressures and for rain offense, it gives a lot of pressure and basically it limits the amount of switch-ins to check rain spam.

Now you have one of few options here. (Please note: these are suggestions and I'm not forcing you to throw these mons on your team, but please do take these ideas into consideration.)

Now for rock setters, you have a suicide lead Azelf, with a mixup of Rain Dance. now this probably isn't one of your strongholds but it is used quite frequently on rain teams or rain offense in general. Now if you were interested in this set, try this:

Azelf @ Focus Sash
EVs: 196 Atk / 60 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
- Rain Dance / Taunt

now this set is very interesting and self explanatory, you lead rocks then after that you play Azelf how you feel like. A few examples include:

  • Get Rain Up And Spam
  • Playing Stall? Spam Taunt
  • Save This for Steels or Bulky Grass Types that furthermore wall your team. Excluding the fact you have Latias and Tornadus-T.
These were just a few options you could use this for. Now onto the second option that would be a better pick and much rather convincing; Ferrothorn.

Ferrothorn is an amazing team member that set up hazards and checks and counters some common threats in the current ORAS OU Metagame. Now I think you could easily add Ferrothorn to you team as it much better helps supports your playstyle. Here, try this set:

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Protect

and the last option that is still viable and wouldn't hurt to add; Garchomp.

Garchomp is an amazing Pokemon. Depending on your set it walls a lot of mons, but for this team you could easily run a Def Helmet Chomp set that walls a lot of threats and still gives your team extra backbone and team support it wouldn't have without.
Try this set:

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

The reasons why I chose the desired Item, Moves, and EVs can be found in the points listed below:

  • Rocky Helmet combined with Rough Skin helps so much against physical attackers for 30% of their HP every time they come in contact.
  • The EV spread gives Garchomp the Special Defense needed to survive powerful hits from Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y, Landorus, Gengar, Keldeo, and Mega Diancie, while still retaining the optimum amount of physical bulk.
  • The Speed EVs enable Garchomp to outspeed neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon such as Bisharp and Breloom, as well as Jolly Tyranitar.
  • However, an alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe can be used to outspeed Jolly Bisharp, which is critical against Swords Dance variants, as a +2 Sucker Punch will never OHKO Garchomp, which KOes it back with Earthquake.
any of these could be helpful.

Now, let's dive deeper. (haha get it? Cuz it's a rain team! NO? okay.) first we have, Mega-Swampert. I know how much of a tank this is, but you have a rain setter already namely Politoed. Even if Politoed dies it still hits hard but I guess it could be an alternative, so I'll leave that.

Next Pokemon on your team I would like to cover is; Tornadus-T.
The Pokemon itself is okay, but I recommend you switch the EVs and one move. Try this:

Tornadus-Therian @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 76 Atk / 216 SpA / 216 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Taunt

Now, before you consult me on such the big switch, let me explain the reasoning behind this. refer to the points below:

  • 76 EVs go into Attack to allow Tornadus-T to specifically OHKO Tyranitar and Excadrill with Superpower.
  • 216 Speed investment with a Naive nature is all it needs to outspeed Pokemon that are base 115 Speed and under, such as Choice Scarf Tyranitar.
  • The rest is dumped into Special Attack so that Hurricane can hit as hard as possible.
  • Finally, Life Orb is the item of choice, as it increases attacking power, and the recoil isn't much of a problem due to Regenerator.
Finally, your Scizor set should be an all out attacking Pokemon, just to widdle down your opponents Pokemon and get a couple kills. Try this set:

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

This set absolutely demolishes teams. I can't explain the love I have for bug bite. I know a few calcs off the top of my head. +2 Bug Bite OHKOs Rotom-Wash after Stealth rock damage. It also does 80% to max def Mega Venusaur but 252/252 max def/HP Venus aren't common so you should get an OHKO every time. Also, it OHKOs Amoonguss. Common switch-ins to Scizor. Oh before I forget to add this, it also 2HKOs Def Lando like 70% easy 2HKO. This should clear up any walls that stop your spammers from sweeping.

Anyway, that's my rate and team suggestion. Good luck.

Hope I helped :]

lol, thanks for the shoutout. Your team looks really nice, rain offense is really effective in the current meta IMO. Btw I would recommend changing Hypnosis to Toxic on Politoed. That way, you can deal with MegaBro and also cripple some bulkier mons. Also, you definitely need a rocks setter, I think that changing Rain Dance on Swampert to Rocks, or add something like a Ferrothorn, who also really benefits from rain. If you decide to change Rain Dance on Swampert and want something else to set up rain, I would recommend Thundurus or Klefki, who do it really well thanks to Prankster.

Dude, if his Torn-T isn't AV then every time Landorus-I and to a certain extent, Keldeo, get a free switch-in, they pretty much get a free kill, especially since Latias will be really pressured by the both of them, and without recovery. AV Torn-T is pretty much a requirement so his team doesn't take massive damage after Latias is weakened from Keldeo or Landorus-I. If he changes his Scizor to the set you mentioned, his team would just get nuked by Dracos from LO Lati@s, and you would need to sack something every time to fairy types just to get a free switch in with Scizor because Scizor just gets 2HKOed by Mega Gardevoir and +1 Altaria's return. Those suggestions just make the team weaker to major threats plaguing OU.
Fren, he has Latias that can switch-in to keldeo every time I don't know where you get that, and this team is a Rain Offense which means you setup rain and spam. Lando-I gets bopped by every team member on his team, he does not need to worry about your "problems" you desire to call problems. Let alone Lando-I gets pressured by everything. Lando-I is no threat to this team.

also, in my post. If you take the time to actually read it I do state that he add a Ferrothorn.. I DID SAY THAT, DIDNT I? yes, now once again your statements still stand false. I know what I'm talking about.

then his latias get wayyy too pressured to deal with Keld under rain and defog, especially with no recovery. lando does a clean ~65% to ferro with earth power, and that just adds another mon that just gives a free switch in to both threats i mentioned. I don't get your argument about Ferrothorn whatsoever. it kills momentum, while Scizor eases prediction with u-turn and does heavy damage to whatever want to switch in on it. You don't even make it clear which mon should be replaced for ferro. Also, just because Lando doesn't have many opportunities doesn't mean it's not a threat. It can come in on -2 Lati, Swampert out of rain, weakened toed, or Scizor not locked into bullet punch. Just the presence of Lando has that effect where you hesitate clicking draco to give lando a free switch in. And having two Keldeo checks are rather important. SubCM Keld can actually beat Lati@s 1v1. Latias is taking ~40% every time he switches in on Keldeo, factoring in LO dmg, and that's not even mentioning burns or SR. That's another 24% gone. Case in point, AV Torn-T is definitely important.
Maybe for this team, AV is important but the other teams you are consulting me on, no. You can't just go on all my post and say "your team gets rekt by keldeo and Lando-I" because quite frankly, they are threats but not to rain offense, and as you stated previously, Lando-I can come in on a -2 Lati all it wants it will still get bopped by a -2 Draco. Not to mention it survives any attack Landorus-I goes for its above 75%

Freedom.
Thanks for your massive input and writing all that down.

At first, just like you said, my plan was to set up rain and then just spam till the battle was over. But you where completely right about the pressure that is added by SR on my opponents field.
If I would go with an azelf suicide lead I do think I will use the double screen+explosion+SR @ normal gem set that dEnIsSsS used in one of his latest BP teams.
With screens up it gives me the momentum back that i lost on setting them up and making the pressure even bigger than with just SR on the field.
(this is still just a theory though, I havent tested out any azelf set right now) I will get to test your suggestions accordingly and see what i can swap out for them.

-Ixtamacunxi- the problem with mega slowbro was that the certain set I faced that, if it wasnt for a missplay on my opponents part, should have sweeped my whole team. It had rest to get rid of all the status ailments i could thow at him.
I do like your idea on putting SR on Swampert since it does generate switches quite often with the right timing (mainly to counters of him)

BUMP

My current problem is trying to fit in a SR setter but the problem is I cannot find a single mon that I want to replacde since they all have dedicated threats they need to counter :/

Well, standard CroBro or Double Dance Bro both lose to Encore+Toxic Toed: You Encore them into Calm Mind/Iron Defense and then use Toxic to stall it and Encore again if needed. Only really loses to offensive Bro I think.
