The Everything NFL Thread - 2009

None of that has anything to do with what I am saying. All I am stating is a simple fact and my analysis of it:
1) Some teams that get the ball first would win regardless of equal chances.
2) Some teams that get the ball first would lose if the other team had a chance afterward.
3) Thus teams lose directly because of not getting a chance.

For you to deny that is factually incorrect. Yes, teams would also win if they "just played defense", but that does not matter. That a team would win having their chance loses means teams lose directly to not receiving the ball. All I was doing was addressing your incorrect claim.

If rewording helps, then take it as it is now. The game ends, team B loses never receiving the ball because of their "poor defense" (because obviously being scored on means you are not playing defense well). However, team B would have won despite whatever their defensive efforts were if they had their chance next. Thus team B lost solely to not having a chance since their defense would not matter.

the team that wins the flip in overtime wins approxiamtely 70% of the games.

Whoever says that the overtime system is fair is to be frank, an idiot

Also adding in a "lol Steelers" comment. Perhaps the Madden curse is extending beyond Polomalu and infecting the rest of the team?

Wonder when it'll strike Fitzgerald...

Can we go ahead and call them the biggest dissapointment? The steelers I mean. Super bowl champs going to miss the playoffs by losing 5 straight games including losses to Oakland, Kansas City, and Cleveland. Admittedly Cleveland (Cribbs) played really well.

You know, as I was watching that game, it began to dawn on me that something was seriously wrong. You could tell just by watching how they were playing that the Steelers had no strength left. It was almost as if they wanted to eliminate themselves from the playoff hunt to alleviate the pressure of the rest of the season. I mean, coming into the game the Steelers pretty much had to go on a 7 game winning steak to defend their title, the first four just to get IN to the playoffs (which wasn't even guaranteed). By losing to Cleveland and (virtually) being removed from contention, the final 3 games open the door for some experimentation and fun, as they now have nothing to lose.

PS I'm not saying this is what they were really doing, nor am I saying it's what they should have done. I'm just saying you could tell they had no heart left, almost as if they had given up before the game even started. Losing 5 games in the final 14 seconds can be an extremely deflating experience. Now the Steelers can not only focus on next season, but they can safely rest Polamalu for as long as he needs to recover fully without risking his career in a reinjury.

Also @ CK - man I'm getting sick of arguing with you when we're really not that far apart in our opinions. Mathematically yes, a team that doesn't get a chance on offense because the other team got the ball first and scored has lost because they "never got a chance." I'm not saying that being scored on first means you played bad defense either, because sometimes the other team can just execute perfectly or get lucky. I even said in my post that changing the system would be a good thing. All I want is for a change, but to not lose any more focus on defense than this league already has.

The Steelers are hosed. They're sliding down straight into the belly of the beast with five straight losses, and now Cleveland...

I only focused on logic, not math. If you are sick of it, then do not say stuff that needs blatant correction.

I think the Titans are about an equal or larger disappointment. They were a better team than the Steelers last year, and their 0-6 start was pretty inexplicable and as bad as an 0-5 run for the Steelers.

Whatever man I'm done. All you seem focused on is twisting the knife and doing everything in your power to try and insult me. Have at it, I don't care anymore.

the steelers really needed polamalu to halt the unstoppable force that is the browns offense lmao

actually, it's only 50%. play defense.

I think having Polamalu would have helped to slow down Cribbs on a couple of those long runs he had, since nobody seemed to be able to tackle him once he hit the secondary. Regardless, the Steelers probably would have lost anyway even WITH Polamalu. It was pretty obvious their heart wasn't in it, and they simply got outplayed. At least Ben didn't throw any picks, and would have probably had a better comp % without his targets (read: Mendenhall) dropping the passes thrown to them.

Oh well, at least now I don't have to sweat through every game for the rest of the season. My poor heart is happy to get a rest!

This season, the team that has won the coin flip in overtime has a 5-5 record. That means that the team that starts on defense (because no one elects to kick) is also 5-5. PLAY DEFENSE, WIN GAMES.

Also, I just wanted to say that page 36 is easily the worst page in this thread. What a bunch of whining nancies.

Steelers are horrible this season. You can blame it on injuries but I think that it is just Ben. He just isnt as good as he once was. I dont know how they would replace him though.

you dont need research to know just how bad the raiders, chiefs, and browns offenses are. the steelers suck donkey penis, deal with it and get used to it.

The raiders beat your bengals too dumbshit. How can you even expect us to take you seriously when you say something like "Steelers suck donkey penis get over it". That is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard regarding football. The Steelers don't suck, they are a good team playing sucky football at the moment. Teams that "suck donkey penis" don't win Super Bowls. Don't forget they also beat the Chargers, Broncos, and Vikings. Stop being an ignorant bengals bandwagoner and start posting shit that makes sense.

Hmm Steelers... I think they'll give everything they have at home against the Ravens to knock us out. I still think we'll lose that with the way we've played lately.

Jags in the playoffs? That's embarrassing.

To be honest I think the last wild card will be Miami or Baltimore. The Jags will drop their games to Indy and New England, and possibly even Miami, putting them at 8-8 (assuming they beat the Browns) and missing the playoffs. What's funny is the Steelers still mathematically have a chance to make the playoffs. They don't deserve to after how they played last night though.

The Dolphins pretty much control their own destiny IMO. This weeks game is HUUUUGE. Ricky is running hard and the O Line is tough. If the D can man up, the Fins can make the playoffs. The Steelers are just in total free fall, it's great =)
