Something that always gets brought up about joining the GP team is how daunting of a task it can be. Doing quality GP checks takes lots of practice, and it's often hard for those new to it to grasp what exactly we're looking for out of prospective members. Today, I introduce to you: GP tutoring! This has always been something that we offered but in a very unofficial manner. However, going forward we wish to advertise it more publicly in hopes people interested in GPing no longer see it as a very scary task.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Our GPers are often busy with many other parts of the site, and as a result there may be periods where no tutor is currently accepting new members.
- If you're interested in joining the team but can't get a tutor, remember to still join the GP Discord! That way, you can still request an amchecker role and have access to the #amchecker channel, where you're free to ask for input on any checks you do.
- The GP process is indeed one that takes time to learn. Don't fret if you feel like you're not making process after a month or more! Practice makes perfect, after all.
We are looking for tutees to already have some experience checking and taking on feedback before signing up, so once you've immersed yourself in 4 or 5 workshop excerpts or amchecks, feel free to sign up for one-on-one tutoring with a GPer. Keep in mind that the tutoring process can take a few months of active participation, so we do want to look for tutees who are able to commit time regularly to working to join the team.
If you don’t have the time to commit to being tutored, you can still post one-off amchecks when you’re able to and link them in amchannel for feedback as frequently as you’d like!
To request a tutor, we want you to use the following application so we've got an idea of where you're at:
1) What's your availability and timezone?
2) Why do you want to join the GP team?
3) Please link some previous GP workshop exercises or amchecks of yours.
4) What is your Discord tag?
Happy posting, and good luck!
